Improve the sound of your room!

Do you need acoustic treatment? Stand in the middle of your room, clap your hands, and listen. Hear that? That's flutter echo, reflections, standing waves, and other acoustic anomalies that will impact the quality of your recordings and color what you hear when you're mixing. Luckily, it's a common problem, and an easy one to solve, no matter how big or small your room is. The Primacoustic London 12 room kit is designed for rooms up to 150 square feet, and it tames the most common acoustic issues you'll encounter.

Primacoustic London 12 Acoustic Treatment Room Kit at a Glance:
  • Reduces early reflections for a cleaner sounding room
  • The cure for flutter echo
  • Tame room modes to even out your room's sound
  • Not your average foam
Conquers a multitude of acoustic concerns

Most rooms in either commercial facilities or residential dwellings have parallel walls. These parallel walls are great for aesthetics and floor plans, but they introduce a world of problems in a recording or mixing rooms. The first culprit is primary reflections. In simplest terms, this is sound bouncing off of walls near the sound source. These reflected sounds recombine and phase cancellation occurs, causing comb filtering. Obviously, with phase cancellation, you're not getting a true picture of the sound, so your mix won't translate well on other systems. Primacoustic's London 12 room kit uses a quartet of Control Columns to tame early reflections. Positioned near the sound source, the Control Columns helps to "define" the listening area, making it easier to discern what is really happening versus hearing the reflections, making both mixing and recording easier.

The cure for flutter echo

When you clap your hands in your room, much of what you hear is flutter echo - essentially sound bouncing off the walls, ceiling, and floor. In a room this lively, it will be nearly impossible to add the right amount of reverb to your mix. The eight Scatter Blocks in the London 12 room kit are usually installed behind the listening position to help disperse flutter echo by absorbing some of the sound energy while allowing some of the energy to reflect back. This allows for a more natural sound at the monitoring position. And at Sweetwater, we know how important it is to have a true picture of what's going on at the mix position.

Tame room modes to even out your room's sound

If your room has pockets of strong or weak bass response away from the mix position, you have room modes. That's a fancy way of saying that a pair of low-frequency sound waves are colliding. When these wave collide and are in phase, the bass response is unusually strong; if they're out of phase, they cancel each other out, resulting in weakened bass response. If the bass response isn't even across the room, your mixes will suffer. Use the two Broadband panels mounted in the corners to tame room modes and improves the bass response of the room.

Not your average foam

Primacoustic London room kits are made up of Broadway acoustic panels. These panels aren't really what is conventionally called foam, as they're made from a high-density 6lb-per-cubic-foot fiberglass. This denser material provides almost five times greater absorption than typical foam. That equates to less foam on the wall and more absorption for a clean look and better sound.

Excellent Acoustic Treatment

Works just as advertised and wow what a difference a properly treated room makes.
There were some comments on the smell but I am happy to say the set I received was barely noticeable and cleared up after a day.

Go hard or go home

Was thinking about buying the London 8 kit... But my room is about 200sq feet so I just decided to go with the ultimate London 12 kit, was a bit suspicious that it was just regular basic cheap foam, I was wrong. After installing all panels I did the clap test, man oh man the difference is crazy. Well I mean it better be... installation is extremely easy. Mine only had a weird smell for about 2 hours, just opened a window a turned on a fan, smell problem solved. I can now finally mix & produce beats knowing what I'm hearing is correct and accurate. I recommend getting the 6 easy payments, you have nothing to loose, the only thing you'll loose is that terrible echo you hear when you clap your hands. I wish it was cheaper but hey if you don't wana make your own cheap panels and make a mess and trips to the store just purchase the London 12 kit.

This Panel is GREAT!!

I'm not a musician. I do voice overs for TV. My foam in my home studio was beginning to get powdery and starting to fall off the wall. I wanted an alternative. My engineer at Sweetwater, Ben recommended this to me and I must say it is great. I did one back wall with red velvet draperies which looks great.....for the rest of the studio I used the London 12 kit and I could not be happier. The foam for this room would have run me about $600 but for for just a little more money I got this. It was easy to put up and my studio has never sounded better in all the years I've had it here at the house. Not only does the studio sound great but these panels make the room look very professional. In a couple of months I'm going to add their ceiling panel too. I could not recommend these panels with a higher approval. One this to help you out with installation. The panels come with these impalers that you have to push and then pull down to mount them. I would seem to me that if you had to move them around a few times it could cause a little damage to the backs. Sweetwater has the "straight on" impalers and it's way easier to mount them and have them line up with other panels.....Those extra implalers are $39 bucks if you can't find them on the site your Sweetwater rep will direct you right too them....if you look at the pictures of the two impalers you will right away see what I mean.

WOW...and I do mean WOW!

I have to admit I was really hoping to do my acoustic treatment in my home studio on the cheap. But I've got to say; after looking at some of the home-made cheap alternatives and all the trouble, materials, tools and time needed-I decided to buy an acoustic panel kit.

My wish for the cheap acoustic treatment was because my basement is oddly shaped and I had to put up a barrier to accomplish some basic sonic symmetry so, I wanted to convert the space behind the barrier into a vocal booth which meant I would be spending time, money and multi-trips to Home Depot to accomplish that didn’t want to have to build acoustic panels to boot.

Started looking around and kept coming back to the Primacoustic’s London kit-the price tag is a real departure from the CHEAP solution I had in mind and had I not had a Sweetwater credit account, I would not have been able to get these on my budget but I bit the bullet and placed the order.

BEST DIDN’T WANT TO DO IT PURCHASE I EVER MADE-to make a longer story shorter, even though I have yet to put up my bass traps (in place in their perspective corners, but not UP in position) my anxiety for finding out what the London kit would do just got the best of me- so, I hooked up everything and played one of my mixes-INSTANTLY, I could hear EVERYTHING that was wrong with it-WOW! WOW! WOW! I can’t even type how many times I repeated that to myself.

One hour-that’s all, just one hour I spent using my new acoustically treated room to do a NEW preliminary mix-what a difference!

And for those who think their space is a challenge-see what I did ( sorry-wouldn't allow a link ); and if your space isn’t this badly configured, the Primacoustic London Kit will be your solution as well.

I think it is important to mention, my kit has a real pungent odor that’s still permeating (two weeks later)-first couple of days were harsh but I’m noticing less and less now-but the product is well worth putting up with the odor until it totally dissipates.

Foul chemical odor

Haven't installed the panels yet due to the incredibly foul chemical odor that emits from the panels. They are currently airing out in my garage in the hope that the smell will subside. Primeacoustic actually admits this on their FAQ. They look great and I will revise my review if the smell disappears.
