The Golden Sound of an Otto Link Mouthpiece

In 1931, Otto Link introduced the Master Link, a large-chambered metal saxophone mouthpiece with a low baffle and a small tip opening. Boasting a rich, deep sound, the Master Link was adopted by jazz tenor saxophone luminaries Ben Webster and Coleman Hawkins. With such significant endorsements, Otto Link mouthpieces shot to the top of the industry, remaining a staple for nearly a century, with star players such as Stan Getz, Hank Mobley, and Dexter Gordon subsequently turning to Otto Link to help them achieve their signature tones. Modern Otto Link metal saxophone mouthpieces continue this storied tradition of high-quality craftsmanship by identifying a benchmark model — a play-tested and carefully selected vintage Florida mouthpiece — and redesigning the mouthpiece's inner dimension. Otto Link then introduced new tooling to ensure manufacturing consistency. Hand-finished with 24-karat gold plating, the Otto Link metal saxophone mouthpiece is as visually stunning as it is aurally satisfying. And saxophonists at Sweetwater find these bell metal mouthpieces are suitable for a number of styles, from smokey jazz and smooth R&B to upbeat pop and bombastic classical music. For a top-notch professional mouthpiece with a legendary pedigree, we recommend Otto Link metal saxophone mouthpieces.

Otto Link Super Tone Master V 8 Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece – Classic Sound, Modern Precision, and Outstanding Sweetwater Service!
The Otto Link Super Tone Master V 8 tenor saxophone mouthpiece is a true testament to JJ Babbitt's commitment to blending heritage with modern innovation. From the moment you open the box, the mouthpiece impresses with its rich gold plating, classic Otto Link engravings, and solid craftsmanship. Although there are minor cosmetic imperfections, like a faint seam on the beak, the overall look and feel exude quality. The redesigned ligature is a nice improvement over older models, and while many players may still prefer their trusted ligature setups, the included option feels sturdier and easier to use than past versions. Sweetwater made the buying experience even better with fast shipping and stellar customer support, which added to the overall satisfaction.

When it comes to playability, this mouthpiece shines. The new 5th generation Super Tone Master V is reed-friendly and works well with a wide range of reeds, providing consistent response across the board. The tone is classic Otto Link—thick, warm, and full of character—while also offering the versatility to move between darker, rounder sounds and brighter, more aggressive tones depending on the player's style and reed choice. Intonation is solid, articulation is crisp, and both the low subtone register and the altissimo range respond beautifully, making it a mouthpiece that truly inspires confidence.

Most importantly, the Otto Link Super Tone Master V 8 captures the essence of why players have loved Otto Link mouthpieces for decades. It delivers the iconic sound associated with jazz legends like Coltrane and Dexter Gordon or modern tenor saxophone legends like Harry Allen or Scott Hamilton, while offering the consistency and precision that modern saxophonists demand. Whether you're playing a lush ballad or pushing the horn in a high-energy setting, this mouthpiece gives you the flexibility and tonal richness to shape your own voice.

Combined with Sweetwater's excellent customer service and quick delivery, this purchase is an outstanding choice for any serious tenor saxophonist looking to invest in a mouthpiece that honors the Otto Link legacy while moving it confidently into the future.
Amazing Link Mouthpiece
This is the best metal tenor mouthpiece I've ever played. I use an Echo Master ligature with it, which frees up the reed quite a bit. The Otto Link ligature isn't the best option. This mouthpiece is excellent in the altissimo range. Kind of surprising how good it is. Definitely worth the cost.
