Pro Co's Legendary Hard-clipping Distortion Goes Mini

A pedal collection just isn't complete without a RAT distortion pedal. But what if you only have about two inches of breathing room on your pedalboard? No problem. The Pro Co Lil' RAT packs a full-blown RAT 2 into a micro-sized stompbox. The Lil' RAT offers all the tone and functionality of its larger predecessor: the familiar 3-knob layout, the rugged on/off footswitch, and the stylish "A" status LED. The only thing that's missing is the battery compartment. The RAT has always been renowned for its versatility, and the diminutive Lil' RAT is no exception. You can use it to hot rod your British high-gain head, send your on-the-brink American-style combo into sweet overdrive, or inject your squeaky-clean high-headroom amp with a dose of heavy-duty, fuzz-like grunge. The RAT's filthy, hard-clipping distortion and near-endless sustain are legendary. And now, thanks to the Pro Co Lil' RAT, you can fit one onto even the most jam-packed of pedalboards.

Dial in a wide range of usable tones

The Lil' RAT includes the same intuitive top-panel controls as its full-sized forerunner: Distortion, Filter, and Volume. You use the Distortion knob to dial in the total amount of saturation. At its minimum setting, this control acts as a fuel-injected dirty boost; at maximum, it delivers harmonic-laden fuzz tones. The Filter knob gives you lots of sonic flexibility. Turn the control counterclockwise for mix-piercing tones with lots of clarity; twist it clockwise to roll off your highs for a warm, cranked amp-like tone. The Volume knob adjusts your total output level. You can run the Lil' RAT at unity gain for a bit of added grit or crank it to punish the front end of your amp. Countless guitarists here at Sweetwater have a RAT on their pedalboard — it's a must-have stompbox. And now with the Lil' RAT, nobody can use lack of pedalboard real estate as an excuse for not owning one.

Pro Co Lil' RAT Features:

  • The famous RAT distortion in a 2-inch-wide micro pedal
  • Delivers everything from subtle overdrive to metal-ready high gain and fuzz-filled anarchy
  • Distortion knob dials in the total amount of saturation
  • Filter knob conjures up a myriad of sonic textures
  • Volume knob adjusts your total output level
  • Near-bulletproof metal enclosure
  • Rugged on/off footswitch and stylish "A" status LED
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Reunited after 20 years
I've just received the Lil Rat this last week. I was struck by its diminutive size; seems much larger in the picture (of course), but it sure isn't lacking in tone let me tell ya. I last used a Rat 20 years ago, and this baby still sounds awesome, it is the sound of Rock. Back in the day I never rolled back the volume on my guitar, so I was very pleasantly surprised by the variety in sound and gain. As mentioned by another reviewer, there are no position marks on the tiny pots, so I added some myself using a silver marker right on the position slots as seen in the picture

lil rat attack
sounds like a rat and cute as heck
Mickey's Favourite Pedal
My first Rat. Very exciting I have to say.Owned a few knock offs over the years always wanted an genuine Proco Rat. This thing is dinky but lacks nothing in character. Very responsive, enjoying the relationship between the distortion and filter. Works great with single coils and humbuckers. Makes me play loud, that's good right?.
Ita classic tone in a more compact form
This sounds exactly like what I remember, only it's much smaller. It's roughly 2/3 the size of a boss pedal which is great! It took all of five minutes to find the tone I was looking for. These are quite versatile if you play around with them. The gain stacks well with other pedals.
Simple Fuzz/Overdrive
I like the more subtle settings on the RAT. It works wonders adding that little bit that was missing in your head. There is any fuzz you want out of this box. Highly recommended.
Music background: Playing guitar and writing music is my hobby.
