Smooth American Tone for Your 10" Amp

Note: Speakers are non-returnable.

Push the limits of your guitar amplifier with an Eminence Lil' buddy guitar speaker. This 10" aftermarket guitar speaker is a drop-in replacement for any similar 50-watt, 8-ohm speaker. Unlike typical 10" speakers Sweetwater guitarists have tried out, which tend to run on the brittle side, the Lil' Buddy pumps out smooth tone with plenty of punch. Push your amp into the crunch zone, and you'll be rewarded with a solid drive tone that's a lot like what you'll get with a Cannabis Rex or other hemp-cone model.

Eminence Lil' Buddy 10" Hemp-cone Guitar Speaker Features:
  • A solid-sounding 10" speaker that's clean, full, and slow to break-up
  • Based around a ferrite magnet and hemp speaker cone
  • Far smoother and less brittle-sounding than typical 10" guitar speakers
  • Provides a delightfully crunchy sound when driven hard
  • A direct replacement for most 50-watt, 8-ohm speakers
Upgrade your 10" guitar amp with an Eminence Lil' Buddy hemp-cone guitar speaker!

Tele + Princeton players - this is the one!

For a long time, I was resistant to trying hemp cone speakers. I've always wanted to love the Jensen-style speakers, but have found that no matter what I do, there's always something in the treble I'm struggling to dial out, especially with the bridge pickups on vintage-style Fender guitars. I play classic country and Western swing, with the occasional jazz gig thrown in, and use a Silverface Fender Princeton. Because I spend so much of my time on the bridge pickup of my Tele, I need to have a sound with enough mids to cut through a mix, but without the ice pick that often plagues Fender-through-Fender combinations. I've always been a fan of Kenny Vaughan, and saw on the Eminence site that he endorsed the Lil' Buddy. Recently noticed that Pete Anderson was playing the Cannabis Rex as well, so I figured I'd give a hemp cone a try.
Bingo! This is the sound. The tele bridge sounds buttery and warm, but with plenty of articulation. The mids in this speaker are sweet, but present enough to allow the Tele's neck pickup to cut for Jimmy Bryant type licks as well. Best of all, this speaker still sounds PLENTY Fendery, and it's loud enough to make the Princeton a true stage amp. I like to think this speaker sounds new like a vintage Jensen with the best kind of mojo - you know, the ones so played-in and road-worn the cones are probably full of nicotine and years of sweat and all that other good stuff that dampens the ice pick in vintage speakers. I think folks sleep on Eminence because the labels and baskets don't look "boutique", but this speaker is a gem. Don't overlook it!

Fantastic speaker with a very full sound.

I put two of these in a 1980-ish Bassman Ten 4x10 combo and it brought it to life. Very full frequency response. It doesn't have as much of a mid scoop as some other ten inches have, and it also has an impressive low end response. The large voice coil (1.75 inch) and heavy magnet (30 oz.) help it have a very articulate, bold voice.

It seems to have a little more "warmth" than a traditional paper cone. That might be a factor of the smoothing of top end frequencies. In a new paper cone, some mid and upper mid frequencies can be fatiguing until the speaker is fully broken in, and even then they can be dominating in the frequency spectrum. These seem really smooth and well tamed in that range right out of the box. Not lacking or missing in that range. It just doesn't become as overly strident as it can with other speakers, especially when brand new.

Smooth

I have a blackface Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb from the mid 2000"s, which I stopped playing after a few years because the amp was just so prickly, nasal, and harsh. I was going to sell the CVR but instead decided to spend a few bucks to transform it into the blues gig amp that I always wanted it to be. The first step was to replace the shrill-sounding original speakers. After a lot of research, I selected the Eminence Lil Buddy (which Sweetwater had in stock, no surprise). Great decision. In the few minutes it took to swap speakers, my amp transformed from prickly and harsh to smooth and warm. Absolutely incredible. In fact, the only other change I had to make was to substitute 5751 tubes for the 12AX7s in the V1 and V2 pre-amp slots to dial down the gain. With less than 30 minutes of work, I now have an awesome sounding blues amp. If you have an amp that needs warmth and smoothness, the Eminence Lil Buddy might be just what you need.

Sweet deal

This thing transforms any dinky solid state or tube practice amp into a little tone monster. Just picked up yet another Frontman 25r for around $50.00,and having installed a Ragin Cajun in the first one I thought I"d try something different this time. Glad I did! This speaker stays cleaner yet more articulate at higher volumes than the RC,and the distortion is to die for. The volume at 2 will drive everyone out,and at 4 your neighbors will call the cops. I love my R.Cajun, but this thing beats it as far as clean ,violin sustain. Especially good with a Les Paul with PAF"s,but sounds amazing with a Strat too.

Good Move

First up, I'm a tube amp guy. In an attempt to find a positive musical use for a Peavey Backstage Plus, I read many forums / reviews, I then made inquiries that included speaker replacement. Making a long story short, I determined that the Eminence company would be my chosen option. I presented my troubles & desires to Eminence via. e-mail for review. Anthony replied within 24 business hours (great folks). He offered a couple of suggestions, one of which was the 10" Lil" Buddy. I called Richard at Sweetwater, we talked it over & I made the purchase. A couple of days hence, I've installed the speaker - ready for the test run. WOW.....the amp went from ice pick garbage to satin smooth pleasure. Although it's not a tube amp, I will be using this one for the small room gigs. (Most of you know it's a weight thing). Many thanks to the Eminence folks & to Richard, (along with all the Sweetwater folks), for yet another great product with the very best of customer service.
