Fit for a 1964 Vibroverb

I replaced the original JBL D130-F 15" speaker in my original 1964 Fender Vibroverb. The D130-F was a real one-trick-pony and was real finicky with different guitars and pedals. Which made it tough to bond with the amp.

This Eminence Legend 1518 15" woke the amp up! IMHO, it plays well with the 'scooped' blackface tones. Highs are present, but not harsh. Lots of harmonics with the volume on '5' to '7' in the reverb channel. Holds together on'10'. Nice attack with a hint of compression as you get on it.

My Vibroverb is biased 61% of max plate wattage of the NOS (1970's) Sylvania 6L6 pair, delivering right around 40 watts RMS. With the Eminence 1518, it provides that rich and harmonic 'Fillmore' tone. I can't wait to start recording with it!

For those with a similar era Fender amp, you'll have to mount the speaker a little tilted to clear the output transformer (see picture).

Speaker Swap Eminence 1518

I got this speaker to replace the stock one in my Fender Excelsior, as many other folks have done. What a huge difference. The amp has a bigger sound, punchier, fuller, no flab. I also had a mod done to the hi/low tone switch and had a pot put in. I couldn't be happier. It isn't even broken in yet but the difference is clear. Sweetwater service was spot on, fast shipping. Thanks to all.

Music background: gig with friends mostly now.

Looking for a fat-warm-present-non shrill top end

I was looking 4 a 15" for a single 15" cabinet, Ide been useing a JBL D-140f, so I wanted a similar style of tone. Ide used eminence before & was impressed. I"m driving it as an extension cab along with a Peavy 50 watt 4-10 combo. What a killer sound I get!! Fat, punchy, nothing unpleasant about the 1518.I would recommend it completely. It"s a great complement with the 4-10 speaks in the peavey!!

Along with some Russian tubes The eminence legend 1518 made my cheap fender excelsior amp sound like a million bucks
