What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

the real thing.
I have bought a few light trees lately and this is one of the better ones. The others that showed up had tubing the size of a mic stand. This one is more like a speaker stand. The t bar has plenty of room for 4 par64 slims. The braces are nice but they can get in the way of the mounting holes. If you cut one down a few inches, they work better. All and all a really good stand.

Awesome product
I was very impressed with this lighting stand.
It says 12 feet tall but I was thinking it can't be this tall I was totally surprised. It's taller then back of my house. And it's totally very well built for the price and the way it's built very nicely and very professional built. With two of my moving head lights and two of my color mega park wow.
Not Bad For The Price
I bought these about 6 months ago and have already taken them out about 5-6 events. For the price they the best value if your looking for a T-Bar Style Light stand hands down. I really wanted to give it a solid 4 or even 4.5 stars except that they do tend to scratch a bit too easily. If your setting them up and leaving them in place then your probably finer but it your loading them in and out of a trailer then they WILL scuff and scratch pretty quickly. And to that point they also dont even make a gig bag/carrying case for it. I did ask my Sweetwater rep and they couldn't find one on hand that they knew would fit. All that said I would still recommend this stand. Functionally they work great especially for the price and I will likely buy 2 more.

It's OK but the design is flawed
The stand itself is fairly well built structurally for the price. The instructions don't mention that you have to unscrew and remove 2 clamps (don't forget to undo the hex nut also) from the T-bar to move them to the top vertical tube of the stand in order to attach the supports. I get you can look at the picture and ultimately figure it out, but the way it was shipped did not make it intuitive. They should have found a way to attach the supports to the back of the T-bar not using that bulky adapter- because the way it is designed makes 2 of the mounts fairly unusable (see picture). I was able to rotate the T-bar a bit to fudge the light mounts but it's definitely not ideal. Someone on Amazon purchased this and you can see where they used an alternative hanging device to circumvent the blocked mount.
Kinda make me nervous
I mean the price is a point, and I haven't not had a major issue, yet. That yet is important. A lot of swaying, not at the base, which is solid so they will not tip at the base, but the upper extensions sway a lot which makes me so nervous, and focus will not be consistent. Also the plastic parts that tighten the telescoping rods do not seem to be strong enough to handle the 80lbs weight load. I put 4 pars, 20 lbs under the recommended load, and it feels like a lot for the stand to handle. 2 pars feels much safer. I would not dare put a moving head on these guys and use it at the full height.

Also the big glitch it that the inner mounting brackets are useless with the support arms. A very big engineering flaw that I am amazed they let the stands go out with the inner mounting spots. I tried to put C-clamps on the bar at those location instead and it bent the metal on the bar.

All I can say is you get what you pay for. My honest recommendation for any other people would be invest in something more high end.
