Exquisite Concert Acoustic from Yamaha

Handbuilt by master luthiers in Japan, the Yamaha LS26 ARE Concert acoustic guitar is an exquisite instrument that offers a lifetime of incredible playability and tone. Utilizing Yamaha's Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E.), the LS26 features solid rosewood back and sides with a solid Engelmann spruce top for stunning tone that is balanced, full, and unique. A 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck with ebony fingerboard adds to this stellar instrument's tone and playability. High-end, detailed appointments including maple binding and an ebony bridge enhance and support the rich tone of this incredible acoustic — added touches we really appreciate here at Sweetwater.

Stellar tonewood pairing

The tonewood combination of rosewood and spruce has won over countless players who have been enthralled by the incredible blending of the rich low end from rosewood and the high and midrange clarity from spruce. The resulting tone is truly something that has to be experienced, and the LS26 ARE lets you do just that. Wide-open strumming, picking, and fingerstyle playing all translate beautifully through this tonewood pairing. And the 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck and ebony fingerboard offer the kind of feel and response that make hours of playing and exploring seem effortless.

Innovative construction to build a better guitar

The great tone and smooth playability of the LS26 ARE are due to Yamaha's never-ending search for perfection. The recently developed A.R.E. process gives your guitar a broken-in and aged tone. By controlling the atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity, the molecular properties of the wood are manipulated to mirror those of a guitar that has been played for years. Each L series guitar also sports modified non-scalloped bracing that enhances the guitar's low end. And after re-evaluation of string height and spacing, the 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck has a new design for improved playability. The Yamaha LS26 ARE acoustic guitar utilizes newly developed advances in guitar construction to bring you an amazingly playable and great-sounding instrument.

Yamaha LS26 ARE Concert Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Concert acoustic with solid rosewood back and sides and solid Engelmann spruce top
  • A.R.E. process gives the guitar an aged, vintage tone
  • 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck with ebony fingerboard offers great playability and response
  • Maple binding and ebony bridge enhance the rich tone of this stellar acoustic
  • Beautiful black/white rosette soundhole looks great onstage
  • Yamaha open-gear gold tuners look classic and offer rock-solid tuning support

My impression of the Yamaha LS26

My mother is a retired interior designer of 50 years. She's worked along side a lot of very skilled workers in that time. Carpenters, plumbers, masons, electricians, handymen and handywomen extraordinaire. Part of her job was making sure that her clients were getting what they'd asked for and that what they'd asked for was getting done in the right way.

One thing I've heard her say over the years is that anyone can paint a wall, and it's true. We've all painted a wall, gone down to the hardware store early Saturday morning to pick out a gallon, a roll of tape, an assortment of brushes and painted that home bedroom, painted that apartment office, painted that guest bathroom. One can do it in a day. But it's how the job gets completed that's the most important. Yes, it's easy to paint a wall, but correctly it takes time, it takes patience, it takes skill. The lines should be perfect, nice and straight. No smudges. The coats should be even. No stroke marks. And here's the thing, one might not ever even know a wall is painted well, but one may always spot a poorly painted one.

What do I expect from the acoustic guitar company whose instrument I'm thinking about purchasing? I expect an instrument that will provide me a little support. I can't pretend to do music alone. And I wouldn't want to. Where's the fun in that? Whenever I sit down to play I think of it as a collaboration. The endless mysteries that are discovered on the fretboard is a joint effort. That's the joy of it.

The best acoustic guitars are the ones that are finished properly. The ones that are finished properly will always be the easiest to play. And if you've found a guitar like this it'll automatically be great sounding. That's my impression of the Yamaha LS26. You will not find so much as an increment out of place. Every piece of it has been thoughtfully chosen and chiseled and smoothed and fitted by hand. The end deal is masterful, both in appearance and in sound.

What's not to like

Just got this beauty three weeks ago, what a wonderful instrument plays great right out of the box action is perfect, neck feels so right Yamaha really knows it's stuff. Sounds great highs, lows bass just perfection. Hesitated for a long time to order man am I glad I pulled the trigger no buyers remorse here. Working with Sweetwater was just a great experience Tomir Denton was very helpful and kept me abreast of order. (back order took 3 months to arrive) the whole experience was just wonderful. If you're considering this guitar consider no longer buy it you'll love it.
Music background: Just starting up after 30 plus years of not playing.
