Classic Lakland Bass, Amazing Value!

Lakland’s Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ solidbody electric bass gives you many of the qualities that have made its US-made counterpart one of the most popular classic-style bass guitars of all time. Made of solid ash with a rock maple neck and equipped with a pair of Lakland’s amazing custom-wound hybrid pickups, the Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ delivers the thump, punch, and drive that define vintage bass tone. If you’re looking for the best of vintage style, classic tone, and modern performance, take it from Sweetwater — you’re going to love playing a Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ!

Classic tonewood combo

Beneath its remarkable Lakland PJ pickups, the Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ features a classic tonewood combination that delivers a growling, hard-hitting sound like no other. What’s more, its smoothly contoured ash body makes the Custom PJ one of the most comfortable basses you’ll ever pick up, and its rock maple neck adds extra punch and sustain to every note you play. The Lakland dual-access bridge lets you choose whether you want to top load the strings or pass them through the body. No matter how you like your bass strung up, the Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ has you covered.

A classic electric bass — reborn!

Inspired by the early-1960s incarnation of the world’s first electric bass, the Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ lets you hold down the low end in style. That’s largely thanks to a pair of Lakland’s amazing custom-wound pickups, fitted in classic P/J configuration. This arrangement gives you the low-end punch from the hybrid split-coil pickup in the middle position, along with the aggressive growl from the Vintage J single-coil at the bridge. Mix up your signature blend, and you’re ready to rock. And with upgrades such as Lakland’s impressive dual-access bridge, you’ll get the best combination of classic sound and modern stability with your Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ bass.

Skyline Series: excellent quality at an affordable price

The Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ electric bass gives you amazing quality for a great low price. That’s because the Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ, like all Skyline Series basses, is made overseas and finished in Lakland’s stateside shop. So regardless of where it was originally made, each Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ passes through the hands of Lakland’s US luthiers long before it finds its way to you. And when you add to that the fact that your Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ comes equipped with the same pickups and hardware as its US-made cousin, you know you’re getting an amazing deal.

Good golly do I love this bass.

I bought this bass about 8 months ago, and it quickly became the workhorse of my collection. It's nice and punchy with both pick-ups all the way off, and soloing the precision pick-up gives a fantastic classic p-bass tone (I'm playing it right now and that's what compelled me to take a pause and write this review). The build quality is as good as any American made instrument I've played - right there with my EBMM Stingray. The neck has the perfect finish and plays fast and smooth. The fretwork is perfect. The photos don't do it justice - the candy apple red is beautiful in person. The hipshot tuners stay in tune really well, as anyone who has used them knows.

I honestly don't have a single complaint about this bass and can't say enough good things about it. It probably won't be my last Lakland purchase. Shoutout to the folks at Sweetwater who set it up perfectly before shipping as well.

Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ with Ash body

I have been playing now for 35+ years and have had a lot of Bass guitars in my time from Alembic`s to Warrior and Fender and Rickenbacker. The one thing I have found is that you will never find the perfect Bass you will always want to change something. So I focus more on build quality and this bass is every bit as good as an American Fender Bass.

The neck on this bass is one of the most comfortable I have played in a long time I like the fact that this 44-64 model has no binding on the fretboard. The Laurel Fingerboard if very much the same as Indian Rosewood in fact if you were not told it was not Rosewood you would`nt even know. The fit and finish are top notch and it fits in a Fender Deluxe case like a glove. This is a well balanced and comfortable playing Bass you wont be disappointed by the play-ability of this instrument.

Now to the only real downside to this bass.( NO REAL BOTTOM END) But that does not mean this Bass does`nt sound good. I was able to get that Kansas Wayward Son sound with little to know effort at all, I was also able to get a really close resemblance to the old Rickenbacker 4001 sound but as we all know Ric`s have no bottom end either so you will have to compensate with your amps eq settings.

To me that is not a deal breaker the fit ,finish and play-ability are all more important. As for tone that`s what your amp`s EQ is there for. And like I was told by a Luthier a long time ago you put a high end set of pickup`s in any guitar you can turn a $1000.00 guitar into a $1500.00 in a matter of 30 minutes. The build quality and how the instrument feels in your hands is more important.

So for what it`s worth the Bass is very treble sounding but plays great I will use my EQ and in time throw in a set of high end pickups and feel comfortable knowing this Bass will alway`s feel great in my hands.
