The Ultimate Matching Mellophone
The King KMP411 is the ultimate marching mellophone. To design this horn, King consulted the award-winning marching brass experts, the Blue Devils. The results? The KMP411 marching mellophone produces a brilliant, strong tone that projects extraordinarily well. Players will immediately appreciate the relocated valve cluster that enhances comfort and lessens fatigue. Additionally, stainless steel pistons ensure that the horn functions properly, marching season after marching season. King and the Blue Devils also added a first-valve saddle, a notched main tuning slide, and an open-wrap third-valve slide for improved intonation and a free-blowing feel. Finished in lacquer, the King KMP411’s appearance, in addition to its tone, really shines under the bright lights.
Built for the Blue Devils
King worked closely with the Blue Devils to design the KMP411. As the most decorated group in the illustrious history of Drum Corps International (DCI), the Blue Devils know what they need from a brass instrument. Naturally, the KMP411 mellophone lives up to expectations. Everything about this horn is focused on ergonomics, ensuring a comfortable playing experience that doesn’t aggravate repetitive strain injuries such as tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Designed with performers in mind, the King KMP411 mellophone offers an outstanding playing experience and a championship-winning tone that’s sure to impress.
Championship-caliber tonality
Designing an instrument for the most successful group in DCI history is no easy feat. Yet, King struck gold with the MP441. Pitched in F and constructed from yellow brass, the KMP441 produces a vivid alto voice that projects across the field with ease. This mellophone has a 0.486-inch bore for a free-blowing feel. Meanwhile, three valves with stainless steel pistons provide a smooth playing experience for many years. Finally, a first-valve slide saddle offers on-the-fly intonation adjustments, ensuring each note blends perfectly with the other horns in your ensemble.
Thoughtful touches elevate your playing
Every detail of the KMP411’s design was carefully considered during the design process. And all of those details are immediately apparent the second you take the instrument out of the case. The most impactful change lies in the valve cluster’s location. King shifted the valves to improve the KM411’s balance and weight distribution. You’ll also notice improved airflow courtesy of the open-wrap third-valve slide. Finally, the notched main tuning slide offers extra grip for intonation adjustments when wearing gloves. These improvements and other small tweaks lead to players experiencing less fatigue, achieving better intonation, and marching to their full potential.
