Roland’s 1990s PCM Powerhouse Synth
The 1990s marked an exciting time in the development of synthesizer technology, with digital synthesis allowing sound designers and musicians access to a wider palette of sounds than ever before and greatly expanding the limits of polyphony. Roland’s JV-1080 sat at the forefront of advanced digital synths in the 1990s. Using sample-based Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) technology, the JV-1080 was capable of producing fairly realistic re-creations of acoustic instruments. But, with extensive sound design tools, including dual-LFOs, multiple time variants, a modulation matrix, and a slew of onboard effects, the JV-1080 made it possible to bend, warp, and twist samples and patches into totally unique sonic emanations. The Roland JV-1080 synthesizer plug-in is a perfect reproduction of this iconic rackmount digital synth, featuring all 448 original waveforms and 40 multi-effects. Yet, Roland took things a step further, adding more than 500 waveforms and a host of new sound processors and doubling the polyphony of the JV-1080 to a whopping 128 voices, producing a powerful modern synthesizer for contemporary electronic musicians. The JV-1080 software synthesizer also makes it easier to manipulate patches, with an intuitive interface that eliminates the somewhat cumbersome menu-diving required of its predecessor — a feature synthesists at Sweetwater familiar with the hardware unit were happy to see! Whether you want to create new sounds or are longing to indulge your ’90s nostalgia, you’ll love the Roland JV-1080 soft synth.

Roland Legendary series
The Roland Legendary series of software synthesizers comprises a formidable lineup of classic analog and digital synths. From Roland’s earliest forays into synthesis, including the System-100 semi-modular mono synth, to its legendary TR-808 and TR-909 rhythm composers and groundbreaking digital synthesizers, such as the JV-1080, the Roland Legendary series includes a pantheon of synth titans. Using state-of-the-art Analog and Digital Circuit Behavior technologies, Roland has captured the essence of its legacy synths. With the original hardware versions becoming ever rarer and commanding exorbitant prices on the collectors’ market, fewer and fewer people will ever lay their hands on a real Juno-106, Jupiter-8, or any of these icons. But, with the Roland Legendary series, you can own them all, in a convenient and affordable software format. Pining for that legendary Roland sound? Then go straight to the source with Roland’s Legendary series of software synthesizers.
