Upgraded Jackson 5-string Bass Value

The Jackson JS Series Spectra Bass JS3V packs plenty of punch — and sleek looks to boot — with its poplar body, maple neck, and active humbucking pickups. Upgraded with a HiMass bridge, two Jackson active humbuckers, and coil-split circuitry, the Spectra Bass JS3V makes it easy to dial in the perfect tone for any gig or recording session. And for a commanding feel, the thin “U” profile neck is topped with a smooth compound-radius laurel fingerboard and jumbo frets for effortless playability, with the added range of a tight and responsive low B — courtesy of the instrument’s 35-inch scale length. If you’re looking for a seriously gigable 5-string bass at a great price, look no further than the Jackson JS Series Spectra Bass JS3V.

Compound-radius fingerboard for ultimate playability

The JS Series Spectra Bass JS3V features a 12–16-inch compound-radius fingerboard for ultimate playability. The laurel fingerboard is rounder near the nut for holding down the groove. As you head up to the solo range of the instrument, the radius flattens out for easier runs and string bends.

Powerful electronics let you tweak your tone to perfection

Jackson stocks the JS Series Spectra Bass JS3V with two medium-output active humbucking pickups, positioned to capture the fullest tone possible. With coil splitting and 3-band EQ, you can sculpt your tone any way you see fit. Whether you’re recording soulful R&B or trying to cut through a speed-metal mix onstage, the Spectra Bass JS3V has the tone-shaping power you need. And the active electronics provide plenty of output to drive long cable runs, your effects chain, and your amp.

Built with unbeatable Jackson quality

Jackson’s JS series incorporates Jackson’s three-plus decades of instrument-building expertise, and the Spectra Bass JS3V is no exception. You get resonant tonewoods, high-output electronics, and a fast neck with a silky smooth fingerboard, all at a price that belies its performance. Many guitarists and bassists at Sweetwater (and worldwide) are fiercely loyal Jackson players. Check out the JS Series Spectra Bass JS3V and you’ll know why.

Jackson JS3V

I played bass when I was younger and recently got back into it. I have a 25 year old LTD and it is the only bass that I have ever owned. I figured since I was getting back into it I would treat myself to a new Bass. The one that I originally decided I wanted was on backorder for 4 months. I spoke with Justin at sweetwater and he recommended this Jackson. I absolutely love it. Sounds and looks amazing! Thank you very much for the recommendation!

7th Jackson first Jackson Bass

Good looking, the pickups and electronics are very good and seem to be common throughout this series of basses, upgrades being neck through and looks mainly, I was able to dial in the tone I wanted pretty easily, using The mammoth plugin on my DAW ( I don't an amp ) Stock strings it comes with are ok not sure what brand I'll swap them out soon enough.

I am a guitar player of 30+ years and picked up bass 2 years ago out of necessity for recording, this bass can really cut through the mix and give you some nasty tones

Uneven amplified string-to-string response & uneven active/passive volume

I am unfortunately having to return this bass. The 'D' string seems to have less output than the others and seems "choked." I took the time to re-do the intonation myself. The strings that come with it actually feel and sound pretty good but may be of a lesser quality which helps keep the overall cost of the instrument down. The 'D' string could be a "dud," which happens sometimes, but interestingly, the perceived difference in volume of the 'D' string in relation to the others is NOT noticeable when I play it acoustically causing me to think that the problem may be in the electronic response of the instrument. It's possibly an inherent dead area in the bass itself. After I re-did the intonation the 'D' string bridge saddle is now conspicuously further back than the others. I know they never end up even--that's the point---but this seems off, to me. This could be the result of a possible bad 'D' string since both the intonation WAS an issue on this string and the response still IS an issue on this string but I ONLY hear the perceived difference in volume of the 'D' string in relation to the others when I play it amplified; not acoustically. The pickups are marketed as "medium output" and this bass has an overall lower volume output so I am assuming that magnetic pull against the strings is not the culprit especially since only the 'D' string is "choked."

I also loosened the 'D' string enough to lift it out of the nut and off of the bridge saddle so that I could then place it back into the nut and back over the bridge saddle to attempt a new positioning in hopes of a better response. I was also hopeful that when the bridge saddle was moved for intonation that this would alleviate the "choked" response. I also slightly raised that string's bridge saddle, too. None of these ideas seemed to work.

Another issue that I saw that is worth mentioning is that the volume difference between active/passive is dramatic even when going back and forth between active and passive with the active E.Q. knobs set completely flat.
