20 Watts of Signature Friedman Fire!

Tube heads built by Friedman are known to have a visceral world-class feel, and now players can relish the sound and features of a 20-watt Friedman built to spec for rock ’n’ roll rebel Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands, Red Dragon Cartel). The JEL-20 20-watt tube head features two high-octane channels, a 3-band EQ, two voice switches, and a punchy gain boost that turns hot tones into fire-breathing heat. EL84 power tubes and premium components tailored to 20-watt needs give the JEL-20 massive output and a lucid response similar to a monstrous EL34-powered Friedman head. Don’t believe a 20-watt head can deliver brazen harmonics, snarling crunch, and enduring sustain? The JEL-20 will change your mind. Moreover, the JEL-20 easily slots into studios and boasts the modern connectivity options players prefer. Rear panel cab sim and direct recording options keep setup times low while the JEL-20 churns out true tube tone that brings projects to life.

Boost, saturate, and brighten

Jake E. Lee included some of his favorite sound-sculpting tools to ensure his signature amp head covers an impressive spread of high-gain tones. A saturation toggle enhances thickness and harmonics for a chewier sound. The brightness toggle elevates dark-sounding pickups to up any player’s standards — it can also give humbuckers the snappier feel of a single-coil pickup. Channel Two’s gain control features a push-pull gain boost for fiery power that pushes gain-heavy tones to their limits. Explore all three voice options, and you’re guaranteed to find sweet spots that get the audience’s hair standing at attention, just like it’s the ’80s again.

Simplified recording

Sweetwater guitarists needing a nimble studio rig that’s never short on saturation find the JEL-20 tube head a perfect match. Players can record directly from the head with fast results. The rear panel’s special recording output sends signal directly to your recording software or interface. An onboard cab sim adds the rattle and punch of real speakers for assured fidelity with a twist of convenience — miking a cabinet isn’t even necessary!

Friedman JEL-20 Jake E. Lee 20-watt Tube Head Features:

  • A compact 20W tube head voiced for hard rock/metal
  • Looks and features designed for former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee
  • 2-channel design with independent master and gain controls — perfect for rhythm/lead switching
  • EL84 power tubes and meticulous engineering capture the responsive punch of a massive EL34 head
  • 3-band EQ, voice toggle switches, and push-pull gain boost for shaping tones
  • FX loop for coloring preamp section output with reverb, delay, and other effects
  • Ready for recording with built-in cab sim and direct recording output found on the rear panel
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Hot JMP reincarnated
In the 90's I played out with modded 73 50watt lead writing original music was my craft. And this heated up Jmp was my amp. The 1968 4x12 with pulsonic cones helped.
Now I'm 62. And the JEL 20 watt does it for me. I've been reconing speakers here in Detroit area since 1999. So I reconed 2 H magnet celestions with nomax 25 watt voice coils with 1777 cones. Custom recones. Into 2x12 bluesbreaker extension cabinet. With JEL head it minics the sound i had in 90's.. love the tone.

This amp Rips!!!

I will just say I was sad from the day I had to sell my 80s jcm800 half stack for carpet for the new house until I bought this rig. This filled the void. Killer tones! Mr. Dave Friedman suggested to go with the cream backs, I was going to do a cream back and v30 combo for speakers, he was right on the money for this high gain . Great cleans and you dont have to throw a lot of pedals at this to hit the sweet spots. I use a buxom boost and Strymon dig and blue sky. Not much else to say. Great for bedroom levels and at 20watts I was wondering if it would keep up with heavy handed drummer but nothing to worry about there! Loud as all can be. Easy to transport with nice carry case(separate sold) highly suggest this product. Call Sweetwater support crew, they are the best!

A really impressive amp that was well thought out.
Let me say first that I'm a tube amp junkie. I've amassed a heck of a collection over the years, but when I heard the JEL-20 for the first time I knew I had to have it. As others have said it's got great cleans, great grit and great grind (the 80's type!!). And while I stay of the classic rock side of things, this amp has everything I need to sound good, feel inspired, and easily grab n go to any gig. I use my KOT as a solo boost on the dirt channel (or for some blues on the clean channel) and a EQD Dispatch Master in the loop and the amp cooks. I did buy the matching 1x12 cab but when I want a little more oomph I add a Bogner Cube. The combination of the Celestion G12-M (65 watt) with the Bogner Ported Cube (Celestion 60 watt Vintage 30) sounds killer! Shout out to Cristian (best sales rep at Sweetwater) and I highly recommend buying Studio Slips covers if you plan to gig your JEL.
Amazing amp!
This is a killer amp. The clean channel is amazing, it takes all of my pedals nicely. But forget about your overdrive/distortion pedals, once you switch to the dirty channel, there's no turning back. What an amazing range of tones with the 3-band EQ + SAT switch + ExtraGain push/pull. Tones for years there… I can easily jam with my friends and I do have a drummer with *heavy* hands…
Awesome amp
Let me just say this amp has everything. Sounds awesome on low volume to high. U have enough cleans and enough gain. No pedals needed. I use 2 vintage 30's on engl 2x12 and marshall greenbacks 2x12. Also Jake E Lee is a badass
