Killer Schecter Bass with Retro Styling

For killer performance and retro styling, it's hard to top the Schecter J-4. Expect loads of natural resonance and tone, thanks to an alder body and maple neck. Plug in, and you'll take this classic tone to new heights, by way of USA MonsterTone-J pickups. As for comfort, after wrapping your hand around this bass's Thin "C" neck, you'll have a really hard time putting it down. This bass also includes an easy-playing 16"-radius maple fingerboard with 21 Narrow X-jumbo frets and a Graph Tech XL ivory TUSQ nut. The Schecter J-4 boasts string-through and top load options, along with eye-catching black hardware.

Natural tone and resonance

The Schecter J-4 is chock-full of natural tone, thanks to its alder body and maple neck. The alder delivers the solid, balanced sound you've heard on countless classic recordings, with equal doses of lows, mids, and highs. The maple injects this resonant tone with ear-popping brightness and incredible sustain. At Sweetwater, we appreciate a bass that produces great-sounding tone — even before you plug it in!

USA MonsterTone-J pickups

As great as the J-4 sounds acoustically, it was built to be plugged in — and you won't be disappointed! Its USA MonsterTone-J pickups perfectly replicate the look and performance of Schecter's original late-1970s design, by virtue of original-vendor vulcanized fiberboard bobbin construction and eight 0.25"-diameter high-carbon steel pole pieces. Beyond that, you get direct-coupled high-strength ceramic 8 magnet and proprietary-wound USA-made magnet wire. Two distinctly numbered coils per pickup unlock new universes of tone via coil-tapping, which you can activate with the J-4's push-pull tone knob.

Easy-playing maple neck

Pick up the Schecter J-4, and you'll experience extreme comfort, thanks to its Thin "C" neck carve. Its 34" scale injects your playing with additional punch, attack, and definition. Beyond that, the neck's dense, strong construction offers incredible sustain and stability. And for the ultimate in easy playability, its 16"-radius maple fingerboard is loaded with 21 Narrow X-jumbo frets and a Graph Tech XL ivory TUSQ nut.

Great bass!

I love this bass, very playable right out of the box; great looking too. I also love the split coil switch with mimics having a preamp by taking/adding output signal; it is very drastic and satisfying. Highly recommend.

Outstanding!

"Sadowsky like" quality, play-ability, and sound at an import price. I can't believe Schecter can offer this good of a J Bass for the price they are asking. Sounds and plays better than some Fender Custom Shops and Deluxe's I've owned. Fingerboard radius is a bit flat but with the thin J-4 neck you barely notice it. The flatness gives this bass better intonation and play-ability on runs. The handmade USA pickups in this will blow you away.

Schecter Sea Foam Green J-4 Bass Guitar

I'm always amazed with Schecter's quality. The fret edges are fantastic and smooth, all the parts are securely fastened, and there are no defects that I can find.

Plays like a dream, sure you have to get it set up to your liking, but that's with anything.

Sound wise, it is amazing. I love the pull pot on the tone knob for that "sparkly" jazz tone, but honestly I prefer that in the normal position. Round and warm, with a little aggression.

At first, it's a little odd getting used to it not having covers on the pups. This goes away quickly though and once you have had your mitts on it a while, it's strange going back :)

As far as Sweetwater is concerned, it's the usual glee. Not sure about others but it is common to have things delivered ahead of the due date. Doesn't seem to matter what shipping company they use. Magic? I dunno, but I like it.

There is only one "negative" thing, and it's not woryh exchanging but I just thought I'd mention it. There is a very small chip on the treble side/bridge pup paint right where the indent for the pickup is placed. Again, I'm being overly nitpicky, but if that is the only thing (and I've played it/looked at it allot! ) who cares!

Great price, great financing, really happy.

Schecter J-4

Great bass for the price, really good build quality.I really like the truss rod adjustment and the maple board, sounds excellent. Wasn't real keen on it when I first got it as I've never been a jazz fan, but have since come to really enjoy it,Overall it's a great bass for the money.

Not worth asking price

1.Bad routing on the bridge pickup/bad drilling not round/ very uneven (If I want to put pickup covers, I have to correct the routing) 2. Chip in paint around the neck to body union (not fixable) 3. Unleveled union between fretboard wood and neck wood, near trust rod / it is not glued correctly at last fret, unleveled woods. (Not professional) ) 4. rough neck near, below first fret/ not polish, feels like 600 to 800 sand paper/ unfinished.
