Epic Waldorf Synthesis with Polyphonic Aftertouch

With the Iridium Keyboard, Waldorf has taken the best of their advanced synthesis technology and combined with with an ultra-expressive Fatar keybed complete with polyphonic aftertouch. Containing Waldorf’s groundbreaking wavetable oscillator along with a host of paradigm-shifting sound sources and modulators, the Iridium Keyboard excels at generating complex, evolving soundscapes, from brilliant celestial pads to boneshaking synth bass and laser beam leads. Synthesists at Sweetwater found Iridium’s numerous parameters and fathomless tweakability easy to access via its tactile control knobs, high-resolution display, and 16-pad touch matrix. An elegantly crafted module for serious sound designers, there is no end to the Iridium Keyboard’s creative potential and ability to inspire countless hours of sonic exploration!

Expansive sound generation

With three oscillators capable of operating in five different modes — Wavetable, Waveform, Resonator, Particle Generator, and Kernel Synthesis — Iridium Keyboard starts the signal chain with a bang! Like the Waldorf Quantum, the Iridium Keyboard features Waldorf’s proprietary wavetable oscillator, which produces dramatic, sweeping sound-generation. Standard waveforms, such as sawtooth, triangle, and square, are available, with additional waveshaping options, including warp, which lets you dynamically morph between waveforms. Resonator, Particle Generator, and Kernel Synthesis modes push the boundaries of synthesis, providing revolutionary ways for manipulating raw sounds into never-before-heard auditory emanations.

Limitless signal manipulation

The Iridium Keyboard is a sound designer’s dream synth, packed with a slew of powerful modulators. Leveraging its digital topology, Iridium Keyboard serves up a dual filter, six envelope generators, six LFOs, and a Komplex Modulator that exhibit a level a precision and flexibility unavailable on other synths. Additionally, Iridium’s Digital Former gives you access to even more modulation tools — comb filtering, bitcrushing, and ring modulation, among others. Gritty and grimy, clean and surgical — Iridium’s modulators can do it all. Moreover, Iridium Keyboard empowers you with limitless routing options through its 40-slot Modulation Matrix. Factor in the 49-key Fatar keybed with polyphonic aftertouch, and the Iridium Keyboard offers huge potential for animated, expressive sounds.

Immersive controls and multi-touch display

With a synth this deep, one might expect to encounter convoluted menu navigation that can bog down the creative process. However, Waldorf went out of their way to deliver a streamlined experience. With its numerous knobs and classic synthesizer layout, Iridium Keyboard is an impressive instrument that can be played like a classic subtractive synth. But if you want to fully immerse yourself in Iridium’s sonic potential, dive into its gorgeous and intuitive high-resolution multi-touch display, which is designed to keep pace with your creativity and inspire you to sculpt rich and complex sounds.

Reviews

Diverse Luxurious Workhorse
Waldorf really made one incredible synth here, period. The design and amount of depth here is astounding. I chose not to do a review until I spent some time getting to know this synth in-depth. I have owned and loved it over a year now and its my most used synth in my studio and is also my favorite(hands down). I know some of people will say its not analog (blah) and I have read some other reviews that do not speak highly of this Waldorf, but I can honestly say its not true. This machine sounds immaculate and can sound as gritty as any other analog synth if you know how to program it. I also own the Matriarch, Prophet 6 and Poly D and some VST's as well, so I know first hand.

The interface is so well thought out and it flows so nicely once you understand all the engines. Being able to use Wavetables with the Kernel Engine plus import samples is flat out ridiculous! It has never failed me once and I feel I can create anything I can imagine.

The Fatar keyboard is of the highest quality and the build is superb and solid. If you are looking for an extremely versatile synth I highly recommend the Iridium KB. I have spent days and nights with this Waldorf and not one day have I second guessed my purchase.

When your ready to make the purchase of if you have questions I recommend my Sales Specialist Grant Garner. He has been the best part about my experience with Sweetwater and is the main reason I continue to do business with them over all the other companies out there. He is professional, down to earth and honest. I appreciate the level of excellence and commitment to service. Thanks again.

What else but 5 STARS!
sick man.. built like a tank, what the hell did they put under the hood? layers and layers and layers.... I think I'll have to just focus on this for a year or so. Thank you Jared Kalish for steering me to this one. A truly fun experience.
Music background: some movie music lately
Nothing touches it
I owned the desktop and loved it, Then Waldorf decided to mess up my finances.
My new iridium keyboard arrived and I've had it two days. There's a world of difference when the synth is attached to a keyboard and the action on this synth is greatness. A ribbon controller like on the hydrasynth would have been cool but in every other way, the iridium is the superior synth.
It has a depth that is unsurpassed by any other hardware synth yet it's so easy to get to what you need within just one or two buttons or knobs due to its elegant touchscreen combined with excellent engineering between the touchscreen, knobs, and what information is presented in any given screen page. This instrument is brilliant.
I own several analog instruments and if I had to narrow my instruments down to one, it would be the iridium.
Waldorf really has reached the summit with this one.
I cannot recommend it high enough and will say that the price may seem steep but it's worth every precious dollar.

The Ultimate Digital Synthesizer
I owned the desktop version but when the keyboard version with polyphonic aftertouch came out I upgraded. This is the ultimate digital synth. There is no sound imaginable you can't create with this from scratch or by modifying one of the thousands of great presets. The polyphonic aftertouch is a dream, especially when you use it in a split patch. Some will say this synth is too complicated, but I find the big color touch screen coupled with the plethora of controls makes it easy to program. The only thing Waldorf missed adding was a second set of stereo outputs. Yes, some will say this a VST in a box, but the hands on control and polyphonic aftertouch keyboard make it much more. Oh, and it's built like a tank.
