Time-tested, Sweetwater-approved!

The Gibson Acoustic Hummingbird is the best of both worlds: undeniable looks and impressive capabilities! If you’re after a compact, do-it-all guitar, nothing gets the job done like one of these premium acoustic-electrics from Gibson. Each Hummingbird is built in Bozeman, Montana, by passionate artisans who understand what makes this guitar such an enduring option for discerning players. This Hummingbird acoustic-electric features gig-ready LR Baggs VTC electronics and a glorious solid-wood construction. A spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fingerboard yield distinct resonance packed with equal clarity and depth. Plus, the Hummingbird’s square-shoulder design keeps this guitar’s voice focused but potent. It’s a multi-purpose masterpiece that Sweetwater players highly recommend having on hand for studio sessions, gigs, and more!

Spruce and mahogany — the perfect pairing!

Few acoustic tonewood pairings capture the magic of mahogany and spruce. Mahogany shapes and holds notes with excellent focus, sustain, and midrange, while spruce adds a dash of top-end treble magic (not to mention strong volume and projection). This Gibson Hummingbird features a satin-finished Sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides. Also, premium hardware, including a rosewood saddle and a bone nut, ensures that your guitar strings and tonewoods always resonate with strength and clarity, resulting in a playing experience like no other.

Smooth playability

The Hummingbird’s neck is made from satin-finished mahogany, a classic choice that feels natural, sturdy, and fluid. The neck features a smooth 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with stunning parallelogram mother-of-pearl inlays. The fingerboard features Gibson’s reliable 24.75-inch scale, which guarantees a slightly softer, slinkier string feel than the average acoustic — which is especially useful if you’re big on bends, hammer-ons, or progressive fingerpicking! Additionally, this guitar comes equipped with ultra-sturdy Gotoh tuners that ensure reliable performance and plenty of solid playtime — with tuning breaks few and far in between.

LR Baggs VTC electronics

LR Baggs VTC electronics capture the kind of amplified acoustic tone you’d expect from a world-class audio engineer working overtime. At the core of the VTC system is an LR Baggs Element pickup with tone and volume controls — a unique build that tracks the guitar top’s vibrations instead of string attack. VTC technology saturates amplified tone with extra harmonic content and analog warmth that are natural sounding yet noticeably better than a standard acoustic pickup. Additional dynamic automatic EQ handles problematic frequencies as they arise with touch-sensitive compression that works with your playing for a more authentic amplified tone that’s tough to beat.

Gibson Acoustic Hummingbird Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Blends traditional Gibson looks with modern features and durability
  • Square-shouldered dreadnought body with lots of volume but tightened focus compared to that of round-shouldered dreadnoughts
  • Sitka spruce top with satin finish for rich tonal depth and dash of vibrant sparkle
  • Mahogany back and sides for well-rounded, all-purpose tone with strong dynamic sensitivity
  • Premium hardware — a bone nut, rosewood bridge, and Gotoh tuners enhance tone and keep strings in tune
  • Enhanced scalloped X-bracing
  • Satin-finished mahogany neck with comfortable round Gibson neck carve
  • Rosewood fingerboard with 20 frets and parallelogram mother-of-pearl inlays
  • 24.75-inch scale with a slightly softer, slinkier string feel
  • Premium headstock inlay made from genuine abalone
  • LR Baggs VTC under-saddle pickup with volume and tone controls

This Bird Sings

I've waited almost 2 months to post this in order to get to know my new musical companion.

I wanted to add another acoustic to my stable, so decided to take a road trip to Sweetwater in order to try out numerous guitars in person. I went in with the assumption that I would end up with another Martin but also leaving my options open to others that may grab my attention, and the Hummingbird Faded certainly did that.

After playing a few Martins, Guilds, Larrivees then the Hummingbird and a Gibson Songwriter, I knew pretty quickly that day that I would be leaving with a Gibson. It was a tough choice between the Hummingbird Faded and a Songwriter, but after trying out several, the Hummingbird I took home just stood out above everything else I played that day.

The Hummingbird Faded is not really "faded", it just has a satin finish instead of full gloss. The one I got is light as a feather sitting at 3lbs 15oz after removing the LR Baggs (I never play plugged in with acoustic). It's very resonant with the notes just leaping out when played with a very sweet & beautiful tone that will just continue to improve the more it gets played. It's not as loud as my Martin D-35, but it buries my Gibson J-45 volume wise. It also has a very strong, solid bottom end that is not muddy at all.

Bottom line is that this Hummingbird is very quickly becoming my first choice to grab when playing acoustic. So glad I took it home with me. It's a keeper for life.
