Classic Dreadnought from Martin

The Martin HD-28E dreadnought acoustic-electric guitar boasts the same design that made the D-28 a classic — herringbone top trim, traditional zigzag backstripe, and Martin's time-tested forward-shifted X-bracing. Used for all styles of music, the HD-28E offers the deep bass response that's made Martin dreadnoughts so popular. Yet it also has a high-end presence that sings out even in heavy instrumentation. You'll love the gorgeous sound of the classic tonewood combination of a spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides. The Martin HD-28E is both loud and dynamic and has a quick response with excellent note definition. And with an LR Baggs Anthem system onboard, the HD-28E sounds amazing amplified. Many acoustic players here at Sweetwater have an HD-28E in their collection.

Premium Martin craftsmanship

The HD-28 is Martin's premium dreadnought, considered by many guitarists to be the finest-sounding guitar Martin has ever made. With a solid spruce top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, and traditional zigzag purfling on the back, this Martin HD-28E is a beautiful, immaculately designed acoustic guitar. The select hardwood neck boasts a black ebony 20-fret fingerboard with diamond and square taper fingerboard inlays. Beautiful with its vintage-styled belly bridge and classic tortoise pickguard, the HD-28E stays reliably in tune with nickel open-geared tuners — complete with stylish butterbean knobs.

The HD-28E's sound and robust projection make it ideal for live performance as well as recording. In addition, the HD-28E is great for aggressive strumming or subtle fingerpicking — bluegrass, folk, even acoustic rock sound great on the HD-28E.

Martin HD-28E Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Solid spruce and East Indian rosewood provide you with sweet, bold, and balanced sound
  • LR Baggs Anthem system delivers stellar amplified tone
  • Black ebony 20-fret fingerboard feels amazing and responds beautifully
  • Forward-shifted X-bracing provides stellar support
  • Adorned with stunning herringbone inlays

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Incredible Martin Tone + LRB

I bought a Martin HD-28E LRB primarily for the "Martin" tone that no other brands can achieve. I looked into the Gibson Song Writer EC, but couldn't find the tone. The particular guitar I received delivers it very well. The whole range of voices is well balanced, all produce the volume evenly and under control. I don't need to fight the instrument any more. The base notes are clear and distinctive; rather than diminished or muddy. When strumming, I feel the whole guitar vibrating with incredible acoustics, that is a part of Martin quality.

The only thing, if I should be picky about, is the thinner neck than I have been accustomed to. I suppose this is some sort of "performance enhancement," but I was from the old school. Perhaps, I should adapt to the modern standard. This does not hider my enthusiasm of picking it up and play, however.

Overall, this is a very satisfying addition to my collection, and a true workforce guitar. Now, I am wondering if all guitar players have one too few in their guitar collections, always.

Fabulous guitar

Ryan Murphy, my Sales Tech, was EXTREMELY helpful in making this happen.
The HD-28 first released in 1976 is basically of duplicate of the D-28 in the 1930's. I chose this model because of the scalloped bracing, the unique Pearl crosses, and the herringbone trim. The LR Baggs gives me a different awesome sound than my other Martin with a Fishman.
I'm a happy picker!

Worth every penny

I have played guitar for over 20 years. The last 5 or so years I have taken a liking to playing bluegrass/folk/americana. I have always revered this guitar as the classic bluegrass guitar that every player should have.

I would like to add that I am by no means a guitar aficionado. I have 4 guitars, two electric, two acoustic. So I am genuine in saying that this guitar is an absolute work horse. The bass tones are very responsive and the L.R. baggs soundhole mic really adds a nice "live" touch to the sound. It booms over my $ ibanez, but cuts through the mix nicely. The neck is very comfortable and it looks incredible. It shipped fast and comes with the rugged yet professional looking molded factory case. I changed the strings right away to elixir polyweb 13s (Heavier strings just sound way better on it). As I am flatpicking, I also bumped up to a 1mm pick. These subtle changes has really let this guitar shine above any other guitars i play with.

If you have the money, you wont need another guitar. Might I suggest that you buy a fishman amp or PA tower. I have both and dont plan on upgrading anything for a long time.

My only wish was that for the money it came with the binding along the neck/fingerboard. A guitar of this caliber and price range should have that.

I will have this guitar for the rest of my life and will give it to my son when I am gone.
Cheers,
Matt NY

Extremely Pleased

A Big shout out to Nicholas Weaver and the crew at Sweetwater Music for all their amazing help with my latest purchase of my Martin HD 28E. As for my new HD-28E I could not be happier. The tone, playability, and craftsmanship of this instrument is as exceptional as I expected. This is my second Martin guitar and hopefully not my last. I am a Martin fan for life.

Absolutely incredible

I'm a gigging full time musician and play on average 3-4 shows a week. I've been struggling to find a guitar that could beat my Yamaha LLX16 (also an incredible guitar for the money).

My buddy has an HD28 and I played his and was smitten. I set out to save and buy one immediately. Years down the road here we are. This is one of the best (if not the best) guitar I've ever played. It's incredibly loud has that tight boomy low end and the shimmery highs. Super super rich on both ends of the spectrum. Very bluegrassy sounding guitar. I would expect no less from a guitar that Tony Rice helped make famous (his pre-war 1935 D28).

The LR Baggs anthem also sounds suuuuper good. Never had a guitar that plugged in this well. No trouble with feedback either.

I've only had it for a month and it has already opened up an insane amount. I've also been playing it ALOT. Already needs a fret crowning.

Anyways, BUY IT. I got one of the last sunburst HD28Es I could find. Looks gorgeous, plays well. A friend for life. Never selling this guitar.
