Crikey, it's a....Gator!

I've had the original R10 Rock n Roller since about 2007 and beat the snot out of it over those years so I was looking for something that would hold up over consistent gigging. Needless to say I was going to be VERY critical of this cart. I bought the Gator due to the price point and the way the arms lock into the bottom of the frame. Huge fan of the full bar support and release as opposed to the cable system and small tabs RnR has. It extends out a few inches longer than the RnR at full spread and has a ball lock in the short and long positions that works great. You don't have to push down the rear bar for that handle to come up and it has a pressure point which keeps it from moving too much while down. Wheels are solid state which I prefer over the inflatable ones as I popped those a few times. Handled all my gear like a champ and I've already recommended to other musician friends. My first cart came in damaged/defective but Sweetwater had a new one turned around to me VERY quickly which I appreciated. 5 stars and 2 thumbs WAY up!

Replace lots of parts!

After having 3 of the 'other carts' bite the dust, I was pretty excited to get this cart. It was lighter, a little thinner and took up a little less space but still fit all my stuff. The first thing I noticed is that they do not provide lock nuts. They did provide lock washers but those aren't going to keep the nuts on. After a week they started to fall off and the replacement process began. After a month the little pop out piece that keeps the 2 sections together burst! But you can still lock it into place with the 2 locking pieces that are covered by plastic that, of course, start to wear out after 2 months. The front casters are junk and I had to replace those when the bearings started falling out. You can get two superior quality casters and they come with lock nuts. On the whole it's not a bad cart, it's just not a great one. But, what are the options?

I Mean, it works...

The frame of the cart is solid and so are the wheels. I ordered one a while back and within 2 months, the small silver button to expand the cart was very hard to push and ended up breaking inside the frame. Also, the 4 pivot points for the fold up arms, BE CAREFUL. the nuts will back off after a very short time. I suggest removing them and reinstalling with loctite. They sent me a new one, the button was better, but lost 2 nuts within a few months.

Get ready to lose some nuts and bolts

So I've have this product for a few months. I gig maybe 4-5 times a month. The nuts ALWAYS come loose and I've had the misfortune of losing one. You have to be careful about it. The extending bit is useful but a pain to get going. You have to push this little button on the bottom of the unit so get ready to lose your mind lol.

The wheels and the frame are solid and I'm sure I could fortify myself BUT why spend the money to fix a new product?

Updated Review - One Year Later - Don't Waste Your Money!

The first cart Gator sent me was damaged, which should have been my first warning. Sweetwater, being the AMAZING people they are, had a new one sent to me very quickly and rectified the issue, and please understand this review is aimed at Gator, NOT Sweetwater. Toni and the whole Sweetwater crew are amazing! In less than a year of light/medium use (wedding and club band drumming, some DJ work) I've had to replace almost every nut and bolt numerous times because they simply fall apart. I find myself checking and tightening each bolt after every use. The handle bars bent with minimal weight on the cart going up a slight incline. For reference, I had a 5 piece drum set, no hardware, and my cymbal bag on it. In the last few weeks, one of the steer wheels is now off-kilter and I have to push down on one side or the other to get it to contact the ground and roll correctly. This cart had me very impressed for about 2 weeks, then all of these issues happened. My previous Rock N Roller cart lasted over 12 years of HARD abuse, and I still use it to this day around the house and in the garage. Very disappointed in Gator's build quality and parts. I'm now about a year out and having to order another brand new cart because I'm worried this will completely fail on my next gig. I'm absolutely going back to Rock N Roller from here on out.
