Command Earthquake-inducing Low End

The Head of Doom Geezer Butler Signature Bass Amp Head infuses your playing with fat, gut-churning tones and phenomenal low-end muscle. And it's bursting with features. The Doom control gooses this 600-watt beast's 12AX7 preamp stage, soaking your tone in rich harmonic distortion. Sculpt your sound further with the Head of Doom's 9-band EQ, while you target your sonic sweet spot with dual VU meters. Produce earthshaking sub-harmonics with the Subs control. An array of professional connections allow you to integrate the H.O.D. into a myriad of configurations. If you dug Geezer's tone during Black Sabbath's The End farewell tour, the Head of Doom achieves it — and then some.

Doom control soaks your tone in harmonic distortion

The Head of Doom's 12AX7 preamp stage already gives you a sizable helping of sizzle. But cranking up the Doom control is when you really unleash the beast. This control increases the current to the tube, adding serious harmonic grind to your tone (à la "Loner" from 13). And thanks to the 9-band EQ, every tone imaginable is at your disposal.

Target the sweet spot with dual VU meters

Tweaking your gain staging is a breeze with the Head of Doom, by virtue of its dual VU meters. Find your sweet spot via the familiar input level VU. Then achieve your tonal objective with this amp head's tone and EQ controls while monitoring your output level with the second VU meter. At Sweetwater, we think the twin meters provide an eye-catching look onstage, too!

Shake the earth with colossal sub-harmonics

A bass guitarist doesn't just want to be heard — they want to be FELT. And once you torque up your tone with the Head of Doom's Subs control, the whole room will feel the earth move. This sub-harmonic generator adds an octave below the notes you're performing, adding undeniable muscularity to everything you play. The Subs function is also controllable via footswitch, so you can kick it in whenever inspiration strikes.

Serious professional connectivity

The Ashdown Head of Doom features an array of professional connections, allowing you to meld it into any configuration. A Passive/Active switch matches the impedance of your instrument. A transparent FX loop makes integrating your external effects a breeze. You also get Tuner and Line outputs, as well as a Line Input for connecting an external sampler or sound source. Output muting cuts the DI output but leaves the Tuner output live for silent tuning. A Slave Input on the back of the H.O.D. is designed to be fed by its three transformer-isolated Slave Outputs, allowing you to create a monster rig by running multiple heads from a single input source.

Ashdown Head of Doom Geezer Butler Signature Bass Amp Head Features:

  • Encapsulates Geezer Butler's onstage tone during Black Sabbath's The End farewell tour
  • Doom control increases the current to the 12AX7 preamp stage, soaking your tone in rich harmonic distortion
  • 9-band EQ puts every tone imaginable at your disposal
  • Dual VU meters allow you to target your sonic sweet spot

  • Passive/Active switch matches the impedance of your instrument

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Head of Doom

I love this amp. It took a couple of shows to get it really dialed in. After that, pure heaven. The EQ is very workable, and the Doom control makes this rig. Had been using a 1974 Sunn Model T, which is awesome but wanted to get a little more modern . This amp is everything I was looking for. Highly recommend it! Thanks Josh Hacker for everything. What a beast!

This is an amazing piece of gear. It is built like a tank and oozes quality craftsmanship. It is by far the quietest amp I've ever used. The tone is amazing, it can go from clean and articulate to big and brutal and everything in between. I was a GK guy forever but this amp changed me. My rep Henry Moore was a pleasure to deal with. Super easy transaction and lots of communication. I remain a happy repeat SW customer.

Just wow

Love it, the sound I"ve always wanted and looks/feels amazing

A true beast

Loved Sabbath all my life and Geezer has been one of my biggest inspirations in my bass journey. To be fair I hadn"t really heard of Ashdown until this amp came along(always been an Ampeg Guy) and Geezer announced it. Had to have it as it simply looked so cool(yes I am shallow)

However it has exceeded every expectation I had. Looks even cooler in the flesh for starters. Then as for sounds... just wow... very authoritative and clean whilst still fat, real bass but with clarity. I particularly love the Doom control up high and the grit that this gives.

So overall well done Ashdown and good choice Geezer, this thing is killer.
