Powerful Gretsch Tone Served on Beautiful Quilted Maple

The Electromatic Center Block Jr. Quilt has stunned many of our guitarists with its good looks. As it turns out, the powerful tone that this axe can produce amounts to the exact same reaction. Built with a laminated quilted maple body, a chambered spruce center block, and a gloss-finish maple neck, the Center Block Jr. Quilt is built to perform with pivotal voicing. The addition of Broad’Tron humbuckers and a Bigsby tailpiece only further allows for a well-rounded, highly controllable sound. Best of all, this axe’s collection of nickel hardware and appointments ensures its status among the finest of Gretsch instruments.

Authentic Gretsch performance

Style, tone, and comfort are the name of the game with the Electromatic Center Block Jr. Quilt. When Sweetwater guitarists first laid eyes on this axe, they couldn’t help but notice its gorgeous laminated quilted maple top, not to mention its smooth thin “U” maple neck and classic pearloid thumbnail inlays. Aside from its killer looks, the Electromatic Center Block Jr. Quilt’s chambered spruce center block and semi-hollowbody construction allow it to generate a resonant and potent tone. And, as a positive side effect, the Center Block Jr. Quilt’s dug-in build keeps it lighter on your shoulders — a bonus that we’re sure will please all guitarists.

An axe that’s meant to scream

After noticing the Center Block Jr. Quilt’s spruce center block and Broad’Tron pickup duo, it should come as no surprise that this guitar outputs decisive vintage tone. These Black Top Broad’Tron humbuckers look great and afford a bold punch with all the high-end shimmer that Gretsch promises to deliver in every instrument. Onboard the Center Block Jr. Quilt rests a 3-way pickup switch, two pickup volume pots, and a master tone/volume knob duo. With this tonal control center, you’ll have ample opportunities to explore this axe’s entire sonic palate.

Fine appointments, stellar sound

Gretsch never fails to administer only the finest hardware and appointments in their guitars, and the Center Block Jr. Quilt is no exception. Fitted with a classic Bigsby B70 tailpiece, you’ll easily be able to find your way around quick note bends and wavy, sustained chord progressions. Up top, you’ll find the addition of a Graph Tech NuBone nut and die-cast tuning machines, offering impeccable intonation support. Finally, the Center Block Jr. Quilt collection’s heavy-duty nickel hardware ensures long-lasting — and stylish — Gretsch performance.

Awesome Looks and Playability

I already had a G5655TG in Cadillac Green and love that guitar. So, when Gretsch announced they would be making this model in quilted maple I knew I wanted one of these as well. What I love about the G5655T's is the smaller body size. You still get a heaping helping of the semi-hollow tones, but without having to reach around a huge body. The center block design keeps feedback to a very controllable level when playing high gain….and it absolutely howls at high gain! Clean tones are glorious, as with all Gretsch's. Pickups are very broad range and aren't one tone only units. Many are concerned about tuning stability with a Bigsby, but both of mine stay in tune very well. I believe these guitars are some of the best designed and built in the industry today…at any price. I recommend buying it! Thanks to my sales engineer, Jim Ridings, and the rest of the Sweetwater staff for another perfect buying experience.

My Gretsch

I love this guitar. For the money it's an excellent value and great cool factor. I did swap out the bridge for a roller model to keep it in tune better. Other than that, it was good to go.

Beautiful Guitar, Beautiful crisp sound

It's been a long time since I've seriously played guitar. About 21 years since I bought a new one. Since a friend of mine kinda got me back into playing around 2 years ago, I had just two guitars left... an acoustic and a resonator. Well I started getting the feeling back to play, and play on a quality axe of my own again.
So after searching and listening and reading and playing solids, semi-hollows and hollow bodies I decided on the Gretsch G5655T-QM. I am happy I did. I love the sound the pickups and tone/volume controls give me, and the sustain. I love the sound of it clean and with a few pedal effects. Even the sound of it unplugged is wonderful. Decent price, beautiful eye-catching build and it plays so well. Not bad, and I'n glad I didn't have to spend 4K on it.
Sweetwater staff did a great job on detailing things, intonation, getting it to me safely. My Sweetwater sales engineer Josh Hart and others I dealt with there made it a very pleasant and easy order. Thank ya!

Devil's in the details!

I have had this guitar less than a week and I like it, but must share a couple negatives. But first the positives! Size, design, sound variations, eye popping, and stays in tune even when using the Bigsby. Those are some great attributes.
However, the screw holding the pick guard into the body was sticking out. That was no problem. I also noticed when I unscrewed the strap lock screw the tap thread has unscrewed. I was about to start a gig. This was an extreme inconvenience, for I had a difficult time finding a small enough screw driver, and could not get it back in. So ended up taking it out. When I finally struggled with getting it back in it would not budge. Frustrated I pushed on the strap screw and it basically collapsed easily into the body stripping the tap. It was loose in the soft (concerned!!!!!) almost balsa wood body. Though loose, I was able to stay and play the gig. I epoxied this screw in when I got home. Hope that holds.
At $, details should not be a concern!!!!
Also the fret wires above fret 12 were not properly dressed. I expect sharp, rough and snagging frets on cheep guitar, not on a $ guitar.
For now, I plan on keeping this guitar, but Gretch needs to focused on details.
