Absolutely Incredible

If you can afford it, don't even *consider* anything else. Assuming you don't need higher wattage handling, of course.

I own a small home, so size is a big deal for me, and I've spent the last couple years trying to get the biggest and best sound possible out of a small amp. I read lots on this guy (and owned blue and gold 12" versions when size and loudness weren't issues), tried other 10" speakers, and asked my gigging and recording buddies.

I finally decided to pull the trigger, and after a (VERY long) break-in period, I can say it was absolutely worth it.

First off, you'd be shocked at the tonal range this this has - almost as low as a 12". If you're not detuning past C, this'll hit your note nice and clearly. And there are all sorts of extra harmonics from the very active, responsive speaker that make chords sound much fuller than with a lesser speaker.

Most importantly to me, the huge tonal range on this speaker means it's less volume-dependent than cheap speakers. I've had Fenders, Mesas, Voxes, Oranges - one thing they all have in common is that unless it's a top-spec or a special edition, the speakers they come with aren't nearly this good, and you always need to have them in a certain power range to get the best sound. Too low and it bottoms out, too high and you get amp AND speaker distortion, and it's midrange mush.

If your amp is up high enough to run the tubes properly, this guy sounds great - that's all there is to it. And if you need to crank your little amp way up to play out, or over drums, then it'll sound awesome that way too.

Here's an insider tip for y'all. Vintage amps don't generally sound great because of some old mojo - they can still build 'em that way. And as the owner of many vintage NOS tubes, I can tell you some of the new ones are just as good - sometimes even better. Vintage amps sound great because they didn't used to come with built-to-a-price speakers. There were no 'Eminence design for Fender' or whatevers back then. But they can get away with doing that now, because most people just see "Eminence", and that's it.

So, moral of the story: if you're reading this because you're curious who would buy a $200 replacement speaker, I'd highly recommend you start budgeting, because it's absolutely worth it.

The only thing I miss from the 12" version is that there isn't as much 'air' and presence with the smaller speaker, though there is still more than with a cheaper 12". I actually like the snappier sound of the 10" more though. If I ever start playing out again, I think I'll get a 2x10" cab with these, rather than another 1x12".

Smooth and glorious

I put this in an Orange Rocke 15, which had their ceramic speaker. The ceramic sounded good, but just not what I was looking for--a little too aggressive. This rounded out the amp perfectly. It's very, very smooth.

Awesome speaker

I just received this today and installed it in my practice amp ( Marshall DSL5C ). It only took a couple of minutes to install. This speaker sounds great even before it's broken in. It added a beefier tone compared to the stock celestion 10" 30 which sounded tinny. I do have to crank the volume up a little more but so far this thing rocks! The alnico magnet produces a darker tone similar to my vintage supro amp from 1960. I couldn't be any happier about this purchase!

Super Heavy Super Sweet

Upgraded a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb - 10" speakers. They sound great, but add a metric ton of weight. Arms kill me, but they do sound awesome. Not sure if they are worth the extra $$$ over the G30s because the magnets are so flipping heavy.

Love the sound hate the weight!
