Put Killer DMX Control at Your Feet!

When you need your hands to perform but still want to control your light show, the Chauvet DJ Foot-C 2 is the compact DMX controller you need. This incredibly cool (and affordable) footswitch-based DMX controller gives you access to 36 channels of control. Onboard color mixing for up to six channels is easy, thanks to a set of dedicated knobs, and three LCD panels provide critical feedback for every available process. Simple controls let you program up to 24 scenes, which you can quickly recall via the footswitches. With additional control options including audio triggering and MIDI, the Foot-C 2 is an incredible 36-channel DMX controller, even without considering that you can operate it with your feet.

A perfect match for hex-color fixtures

While you'll have no trouble controlling all kinds of DMX-equipped lighting fixtures from the Foot-C 2, it's clear that Chauvet built it with hex-color LED fixtures in mind. The most obvious sign of this is its set of six color mixing knobs, which are labeled Red, Green, Blue, Amber, White, and UV. Of course, you can use these same controls for other DMX assignments as well. A total of 36 channels also perfectly accommodates six hex-color fixtures (or other fixtures with 6-channel DMX control options), and there are six fixture-selection buttons to make jumping between your lights easy.

Scene programming made super easy

One of the aspects of the Foot-C 2 that stood out the most to the lighting techs here at Sweetwater was how easy it was to program. First, the controls are simple but exactly as extensive as they need to be. The pedals allow you to quickly navigate through parameters, and dedicated controls provide direct access to fixture assignments and other functions. Likewise, the Foot-C 2's three LED-backlit displays ensure that you never get lost in submenus, not that the menu system is deep enough to get lost in. There are enough characters in the LCD readout that you don't have to navigate confusing shorthand either.

When it comes to the actual programming, Chauvet built the Foot-C 2 to be so straightforward that Sweetwater lighting techs never found a need to crack the manual. Programming static scenes is as easy as selecting the fixtures you want to use, dialing in the colors for each, and saving. To program a chase, you use more or less the same process, only repeated up to 24 times per scene. With 24 slots for scenes onboard, it's easy to program an entire perfectly respectable light show right onboard the Foot-C 2.

Multimode control for killer light shows

Basic scene recall couldn't be easier than it is on the Foot-C 2, but it's far from the extent of what this flexible DMX foot controller can do. When you set up chases, there's the basic auto mode, but you can also tap in the BPM to get your show to sync to the beat. Another great way to sync up your show is via audio triggering. Audio triggering lets you use either the internal microphone or an external audio input to pick up the tempo and sync to the beat of your music. Sensitivity control makes dialing in the response fast and accurate too. For even more advanced control, you can integrate your Foot-C 2 with a MIDI controller or sequencer. MIDI control provides you with on-the-fly speed and fade adjustments and blackout control, as well as chase and scene triggering.

Chauvet DJ Foot-C 2 DMX Foot Controller Features:

  • Compact 36-channel DMX controller in a flexible foot controller
  • Perfect for controlling 6 individual or groups of hex-color LED light fixtures
  • Dedicated Red, Green, Blue, Amber, White, and UV knobs make color mixing easy
  • Simple controls and LCD readouts make programming up to 24 scenes easy
  • 12 chase slots onboard let you create dynamic patterns with up to 24 steps each
  • 3 operation modes let you use automatic playback, audio, or MIDI to trigger scenes/chases
  • Use either the internal microphone or an external line input for audio triggering
  • Manually sync chases to the beat via tap tempo controls

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

This Controller can Control more than 6 DMX channels and here is how

I have had my Controller for 3 hours and I can tell you all that it can do so much more than everybody thinks. I use my Chauvet 4 Bar quad in 19 Ch mode, I use my Chauvet Colorband in 13 Ch mode and I use my Chauvet Gig Bar 2 in 3 ch mode. While the controller is advertised as 6 channels and 6 fixtures, think as it as 36 channels that can be divided any way you want. For example, my color band starts on channel 1 and goes up to channel 13. Fixture 1 controls DMX channels 1-6, fixture 2 controls DMX channels 7-12 and the first knob on fixture 3 controls DMX channel 13. I then go to the back of my 4 Bar and set it to 19 Channel mode starting on Channel 7. On Fixture 3, knobs 2-6 Control DMX channels 1-5, Fixture 4 controls DMX channels 6-11, Fixture 5 controls DMX channels 12-17 and the first 2 knobs on Fixture 6 Control DMX channels 18 and 19. Finally, I have my Gig Bar in 3 channel mode. Fixture 6, knob 3 controls mode type, knob 4 controls which lights will be activated in automatic mode and knob 5 will Control speed if I don’t select sound activation mode. All of this still leaves 1 unused DMX channel. The Black our switch kills all lights. If I want, I can buy a duplicate of any of the lights I have and chain them, one master and one slave and then both sets of chained lights will do the same program. Unfortunately, the poorl written manual does not tell you these things. Most important piece of advice is to keep the paper that comes with the lights you have that tell you what each DMX channel does to each of your lights.

Very easy to use, programmed over 24 scenes in just a few hours.

A lot of the reviews on this site say that this unit is too complicated and difficult to use. My guess is the folks who wrote those are pretty clueless about DMX. If you have a basic understanding of DMX then you'll be fine and really enjoy this pedal. I have literally never owned DMX lights or a DMX controlled and I am set up and read to go with this thing on day 1. I have it programmed to a 4bar and 4bar flex. This is going to help me take my shows to the next level!

Pro's - easy to set up, very rugged, easy to read LED monitor. 36 channels is a good amount especially if you have multiple of the same fixture and are going to have them do the same things. 24 scenes is quite a bit and with another 10 chases you will cover a lot of ground.

Con's - The switches are high quality but they are not momentary. You have to click them pretty hard and they are loud. It makes switching scenes a little slower and tap tempo a little less accurate. Fade speed seems to be universal so you can't specify fade speed based on your chase or scene. Programming a chase took a little learning. I get a little lost between the chase add and edit modes but after programming a few it started to click.

Good foot controller for live stage use

Received controller to work with two Chauvet 4-Bar Quads
Was able to set up 12 scenes and 3 Chase patterns in few days for first stage performance. Works very well and helped increase our groups light movement control and base scenes
Still working on live stage maneuvering while performing and trying to learn setting individual pods on the 4 bars through 19 Channel DMX mode as option to explore
Overall meets and exceeds our groups needs while performing as well as allowing for additional expansion if needed

A bit tricky but once you get the hang of it

There are two parts you need to study when you buy this - first you need to know what your lighting rig configuration needs to be, then study the programming of this unit. The programming is a snap really, but the trick lies in how it works with your rig. If your lighting rig is not configured properly, you will have lots of problems.
I am not doing anything dramatic with it, just programming all lights for specific colors. I am still not able to program individual lights, but I think that is something to do with my 4bar USB rig acting as a universe. I'll work on that over time, but it does exactly what I wanted to do - change colors and fade in/out from scene to scene. Easy to run as well!
Now if they just had a carry case for this thing!

Foot C 2 is great for small do-it-all bands

We have a 4-piece band where we are rigged for a small stage. We recently added some lights that we wanted to run from stage.
Enter the Foot C controller.

We have a tbar on a stand with 5 individual RGBA+UV led pars. We also have 2, 6-light RGBA+ UV light bars and 2 dim-to-white pars on speaker stand for front lighting. Total 9 fixtures.

The Foot C was not difficult to program once you study the DMX capabilities of each fixture in their user manuals. Start with understanding that.

You can program up to 6 fixtures. We have 2 fixture types. The par fixtures are set to 6-channel which gives me all 6 colors rgba and uv. These equate to the six color knobs on the Foot C.

I set the LED light bars as DMX18-channel where it splits the 6-light LED bar into 3 separate fixture on the Foot C, allowing each light pair to be assigned color mixing independently.
So I master/slave the 2 LED light bars, which occupies fixtures 1-3 on the Foot C.
For our 5 LED pars on the tbar, I master/slave pars 1,3 and 5 (fixture 4 on the Foot C) and master/slave pars 2 and 4 (fixture 5 on the Foot C)
And finally, I master/slave the 2 front warm white front lights on speaker tops (fixture 6 on the Foot C).

It takes awhile to get the hang of it, but programming a Scene or a Step in a Chase is like taking a snapshot of what you want each fixture to look like, taking the picture (saving the scene, Chase step) and moving to the next one and repeat
I programmed and saved 24 Scenes and 7 chases in a few days. You can trigger by sound or auto. You can manually alter the speed and fade of advancing steps in the chase, which can be set to advance real slow as in every minute or so or to flip through every second.

Onstage, It works easiest if you have set things up in auto mode or sound activation. Advancing Scenes manually is easy too, but will require you to be mindful of when they need to advance. So it's not quite set and forget.

The Foot C allows our band's 9 light fixtures (utilizing m/s), to all be controlled from stage with coordinated color schemes. And when the color looks are coordinated and complimentary to each song mood, it is really effective.

The controller does have some limitations such as 6 fixtures and you can't save the speed and fade settings with the chase. Fade and speed are global controls.

For our purposes of a small stage band who wants a decent light show that we can run onstage with my foot, the Foot C really does well.

Sweetwater lighting techs, DJs, and musicians alike have the deepest respect for Chauvet, both on the personal and on the professional side. Many of us first became acquainted with Chauvet before LED technology caught on, and it's been impressive to see their range of fixtures grow. Today, Chauvet offers some of our most popular LED lights, from drop-in PAR replacements and intelligent lighting instruments to exciting effects, foggers, haze machines, and more. We also love their innovation. Chauvet has brought LED technology to classic fixtures like ellipsoidal and Fresnels, while their D-Fi system has made wireless DMX truly accessible. Top it off with powerful hardware controllers, next-gen DMX control software, and much more, and we're happy to recommend the Chauvet gear we not only stock but also use ourselves.
