Audiophile Dual-channel Instrument Preamp and Blender

Get studio-quality sound at your next gig with the Grace Design FELiX 2, an updated version of the renowned instrument preamp and signal blender preferred by discerning acoustic musicians. Newly equipped with stereo operation, the FELiX 2 includes a stereo amp output and a dual mono or true stereo FX loop for adding depth and dimension to your performance. Plug in two instruments, or one instrument and one microphone, and dial in immaculate sound with separate EQ sections. Here at Sweetwater, we’ve found that the powerful EQ controls on the FELiX 2 really allow you to sculpt the sound of any instrument to perfection. Other useful features include a dedicated tuner out, a boost function, and a stereo headphone output. If you want an instrument preamp with Grace Design’s stunning audio performance and legendary reliability, do yourself a huge favor and check out the FELiX 2.

Create your ideal sound with this powerful EQ section

The versatile FELiX 2 preamp pedal lets you create your ideal signature sound via a powerful equalizer. Each channel’s equalizer delivers a natural and musical tone at all frequencies. You get fixed low control, a high control with two transition settings at 1kHz and 2kHz, a parametric midrange that covers everything from 65Hz to 6kHz, and a highpass/notch filter that cuts 12dB per octave from 20Hz to 1kHz, with a tight Q setting for surgical tone sculpting. The layout is simple and intuitive to use. The blend control lets you mix both channels together to create the perfect mix. It doesn’t matter if you play guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, vocals, or anything else: the Grace Design FELiX 2 will let you dial in the perfect sound.

Variable input impedance and phase control for optimized tone

The instrument DI inputs of the Grace Design FELiX 2 are designed to accommodate a wide variety of high-impedance input sources, making it an excellent choice as a DI box that will flawlessly preserve the sound of the instrument. Imagine the same resolution and detail as Grace preamplifiers available for direct-inject recording situations. Choose from six impedances to precisely match your instrument’s pickup for the best sound possible. Furthermore, variable phase control is now available on channel 2, allowing you to adjust the phase coherence of the DI and mic input for ultimate clarity and punch.

Rugged Grace Design construction

To top it off, the Grace Design FELiX 2 is completely rugged and roadworthy, so discerning live performers can use the FELiX 2 to achieve studio-quality sound for their live setups. The anodized aluminum and steel body will hold up to the rigors of the road. The FELiX 2 features new protective side rails and lower-profile knobs for improved ergonomic performance. Equally at home amplifying a vintage condenser mic or an acoustic guitar, the Grace Design FELiX 2 delivers onstage results previously available only to big-budget studios and Grammy-winning engineers.

Used for Double Bass

This is an absolute game changer for performing live with a double bass!!!!

I've done dozens of concerts in the last six months, some without using an amp, and love using my Felix 2

Happy Camper

After reading, researching, watching videos, etc. I finally pulled the trigger on this Grace Designs Felix 2. I've used the LR Baggs venue, The Radial ToneBone, Fishman eq and all the various Aura image pedals. The BBE Acoustimax, Audio Sprockets ToneDexter and probably a few more. I was finally able to see my way clear of the expense and get this Felix 2. Knowing what I know now, I wish I had went to one of those car title loan places and put my car up for collateral and got a Felix years ago , then upgraded when the Felix 2 came out. If I had known what a difference this unit makes , I might have just gotten the single channel Alix. I wish I could describe the difference in this unit and the others, but its remarkable how much more open and airy and pleasing it sounds. Like I said,,,Happy Camper.
Thanks Kevin Spunde for putting up with me and all my crazy questions. Thanks Sweetwater for the extended warranty on this and all my toys.
If you're an acoustic player reading this, buy one. Worry about being happy NOW and the $$$ later.

Greater Flexibility requires greater responsibility

I purchased the Grace Designs Felix2 for my acoustic guitar that uses a mic and an under saddle piezo pickup.

The product I have been using up to now is too large to fit on a pedalboard so the form factor of the Felix was attractive to me. The reviews were high and the samples sounded really top class.

This product is extremely flexible and so managing the options is a real challenge until you can get your head around how everything works – and I am a very technical guy. Not only are there lots of switch settings on the outside, there are a bunch of jumpers on the inside that also require understanding to set for the particular use case you may be interested in for this device.

How my acoustic guitar is set up, the piezo pickup is first powered and amplified with a little internal preamp. The manufacture gave me the instructions to then wire in a little electret mic. The two signals are sent via a tip/ring/sleeve cable. The product I used before the Felix would allow me to split the two signals into two EQ control paths, provide power to the mic, set phase between the two sources. Worked great but the device is just not anything you can use live easily. Sonically the device is great, (I own two of them) and I record with often.

I researched ahead of time with a couple calls to Grace and to Sweetwater. I was assured that the Felix would accommodate my use case in a similar fashion. It does while adding the pedal size form factor, a greatly extended EQ for each pickup, a VERY clean and musical output, and a ton of other features to use this device a number of ways.

This device for my use case was very complicated at the start. I do read manuals and after a few hours of trying to sort everything out and not getting results, I called Grace Designs. They kindly and patiently walked me though how to configure the device for my use case. I did have to open the case and set some jumpers. There are so many options with the Felix2 they just don't have room to put all the switches on the outside of the case with the current design. They also answered a ton of questions I had after reading the manual. I would explain how to do all this but that's not suitable content for a review.

After the initial setup challenges, the output is very transparent and the EQ adjustment capabilities are very precise. Once all the configuration is complete, it will be easily tweakable in live use for each venue.

Why only 4.5 stars? The effort I had to put in initially was pretty extensive but again I am happy with the resulting output. All those jumpers! I asked why not just more dip switches and the tech told me that the placement of the jumpers inside in strategic location insures the better noise free output.

One small missing control is a power switch. They claim in the manual that it is unwise to change some of the phantom power settings without turning the unit off first. This made me a little worried, but the tech assured this advice was more cautionary than a cause for concern. Still in live use, to turn it off I have to pull the plug or purchase a power cable with a switch in the line. After talking to the tech and seeing just how much is packed into such a small space, I get why a power switch would be a lower priority.

If you are using a device like this live especially, although I would happily record with this device as well, and you have a complex source like I have, the Felix2 is a bit expensive, but worthy solution for a wide variety of use cases and fits well on a small peddle board with the couple light touch effects I use with my acoustic guitar.

I would rate the Felix2 the best in its' class for this form factor and intended uses.
