For over 20 years, Roland FANTOM workstations have offered cutting-edge keyboard technology that eliminates the gap between performance instruments and studio workstations. Now, Sweetwater is excited to offer the FANTOM-07, Roland’s most intuitive and powerful FANTOM yet! Featuring the same inspiring production tools and deep computer integration as Roland’s flagship FANTOM keyboards, the FANTOM-07 is a value-packed creative hub that puts an intuitive, streamlined, and unconstrained musical powerhouse at your fingertips. With its advanced 16-part multitimbral sound engine, featuring ZEN-Core and SuperNATURAL tone generators, the FANTOM-07 is packed with a wealth of stunningly realistic acoustic and electronic sounds. Plus, it gives you access to a massive supply of sound-shaping options to construct custom patches limited only to your imagination. Get ready to enter an endless universe of sonic exploration with the FANTOM-07!

A formidable sonic arsenal

The FANTOM-07 is fortified with an arsenal of inspiring, authentic electronic, acoustic, and hybrid sounds. Its powerful, versatile, and expandable sound engine draws on decades of industry-leading Roland technology, letting you combine various synthesis and sampling technologies along with the onboard digital filter for new cutting-edge sounds and the ability to take advantage of new sound expansions and capabilities as they become available. The FANTOM-07 nails coveted instruments from Roland's vaunted legacy of genre-defining synths while blazing new synthesis frontiers. At the FANTOM-07's core are Roland's custom Behavior Modeling Chips, powering the instrument with smooth, precise control, massive polyphony, and full patch remain for seamless transitions.

Creativity without compromise

With no confusing modes, technical limitations, or sonic compromises to derail your creative process, FANTOM-07 fuels your creativity with its fast, fluid workflow. Its creative process facilitates and enhances the way modern musicians work by providing intuitive compositional tools, instant-recall creative environments, and deep integration with your DAW. Forget about having to remember which features work in which mode — the FANTOM-07 is always in creative mode.

Make the scene

Whenever you enter your creative zone, the FANTOM-07 is ready with custom creative spaces called scenes that contain your sounds, clips, patterns, and performance layouts — all triggerable with a single touch. A scene can be a complete song, a segment of a song, or merely a starting point with your sounds arranged just the way you want them. You can chain scenes together or swap them out instantly — with no glitches or gaps.

Classic TR-REC pattern sequencer

FANTOM is a self-contained, 16-part multitimbral music composition platform designed for rapid creation and fluid arrangement. You can create patterns on the FANTOM-07 in a variety of ways, including step- and real-time polyphonic sequencing or the TR-REC pattern sequencer — ideal for rhythmic parts — as on Roland's iconic drum machines. The cornerstone of dance music is the step sequencer, none more classic than the 16-step TR-REC found in drum machines like the TR-808, TR-909, and the TR-8S. FANTOM’s onboard TR-REC sequencer is completely updated with sub steps for ratcheted parts, motion control for per-step automation, and support for chords.

Clip-based sequencing

Also at your fingertips are 16 RGB performance pads, real-time recording with piano-roll editing, and a grid for recording and launching clips. You can use any or all of these tools at any time to realize your musical goals. Build up tracks easily and quickly by arranging groups of clips. Record drums, bass lines, pads, and melodies into clips and trigger them separately or in scenes. This is an expeditious way to compose — and perfect for triggering backing tracks onstage.

Sonic superpower

The FANTOM-07 synth engine is based on Partials. Each Partial comprises a discrete synth voice, complete with oscillator, filter, amplifier, dual LFO, and effects. You can pack up to four Partials into a single Tone, and up to 16 Tones in a scene, which makes for mind-boggling complex layers, splits, and sequenced parts. With all this firepower, you can focus on creating music, not conserving processing power; you won’t have to concern yourself with how many effects you can use or if you can change sounds seamlessly without affecting complex patches. With the massive power available in FANTOM-07's engine room, you can run all 16 parts concurrently with all available effects and full patch remain.

Stunningly authentic sounds

To achieve its stunningly authentic acoustic and electronic sounds, FANTOM runs digital modeling, sampling, and analog synthesis technologies simultaneously. You can sample your own sounds and trigger up to two gigabytes of loops and one-shots from the onboard performance pad matrix. For extra warmth and grit, there’s also a digital filter that's completely routable, and you can even mix your favorite soft synths with the FANTOM-07’s internal sounds. For countless composers cross-genre, the piano is the heart of the creative process. The FANTOM-07 incorporates Roland's advanced SuperNATURAL technology that meticulously models the components of the instrument and lets you fine-tune them to craft pianos that match your personal taste and respond just like their acoustic counterparts.

Masterful connectivity

While the FANTOM-07 is jaw-droppingly powerful in and of itself, its beastly power grows exponentially when connected to other equipment such as computers or analog synthesizers. The FANTOM-07's two mic inputs and onboard 16 x 2 stereo audio interface let you record studio-quality sound and route it to and from your DAW. The FANTOM-07 is also a masterful MIDI control surface for your DAW and plug-ins, letting you adjust parameters right from FANTOM's touchscreen. Mix and layer soft synths with the FANTOM-07’s internal sounds, and route them through FANTOM-07’s digital filter section.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Incredibly good balance of capabilities

I bought this keyboard 06/2023. The lightweight build is sturdy and great for travel. The Zen-Core synthesis engine is quite powerful and generally under-explored - it is a keyboard that needs time spent on it to understand its real potential. Most public videos don't really cover the workstations capability adequately.

Good side:
- [ ] It is seriously well balanced in terms of features (essentially same as Fantom flagship ito sound)
- [ ] Can effectively operate DAWless with loads of I/O - really easy to compose full songs
- [ ] Lightweight is a genuine plus - good feel controls
- [ ] Surprising gems in the free expansion packs - the default sound banks has something for basically every genre
- [ ] Quick realtime tweaking of filter, Pan, EQ and ADSR per zone is priceless
- [ ] Touchscreen is way better than expected - very sensitive and responsive
- [ ] DAW control works really well once setup

Areas that need improvement (hopefully with updates!):
- [ ] Increased polyphony
- [ ] Reverb as insert effect (FX) on instruments OR Delay effects with diffusion
- [ ] 2 arpeggios per scene, more / custom arpeggios
- [ ] Load sounds / expansions directly from Computer, not just thumb drive
- [ ] Effect inserts on rhythm patterns and control Rhythm pattern as a channel on mixer
- [ ] A bit more memory for wave expansions
- [ ] At least 2 insert effects on vocals
- [ ] Improved vocal pitch algorithm

Roland Fantom 0 Series Why I Bought It and First Impressions

I got mine on Sweetwater on June 18, 2022 JUST BEFORE THEY RAISED THE PRICE. The prices at Guitar Center had already gone up by then. I went to the Wilmington Delaware Guitar Center and was told the prices went up because of a fire in the Japan's warehouse. In case you didn't know, Delaware doesn't charge sales tax and that would have saved me $140. (See video on youtube).I've handled all 3 abut this first video isn't about how to use but how I went through the process of deciding to get it and why I chose the 07 with 76 keys.

Since I have to rate it, I will rate it a 4 because I've seen enough tutorials about this board to know what it can do.
My only up front reservation is that the manual is not comprehensive. This is not a problem for you if you have been playing Roland boards and using Ableton already but for me, coming out of the Yamaha Tyros/Genos language and format and also the Korg PA format, I have to start shedding my old flow charts and figure the Roland language. The manual does not have a "beginners' mind" and almost assumes you know Roland terms and functions. So those who have never used a synth/DAW like this or those from Yamaha boards will have a learning curve.

The price is good, even at the new raised price for what it does. It does what it claims and no one has had it long enough to report serious issues or defects. As of June 2022, there were open box/returned units available but who know why the purchaser returned it.

Roland Fantom 07

This has been two weeks since I purchased the Roland Fantom 07 Instrument from Sweetwater. First of all I need to mention superior and professional service I have received from the Sweetwater. This is my 3 instrument acquisition through them and they are always caring, professional , engaged and always willing to helpl.

Now as for the instrument. It is a very good quality product and pretty much was exactly what I have expected from Roland. Perfect addition to my little home studio. It has tons of features and it will probably take me sometime to learn and understand all the engineers put under its hood. One complaint I have is about the software. It appears to me it does not hold the settings for sustain pedal or for Sound On/Off and I have to set it each time I power off/ power on the instrument. I believe also the sustain pedal polarity is different and needs to re-set on each power up. May be the firmware update will help with the issue..
Integration with Logic Pro was a breeze but tracks that were recorded with Roland are not exported to the audio file upon project completion. Still need to figure out why…
Overall I enjoy the instrument! Roland Customer/Tech Support was also quick to respond to my question about driver. Sweetwater has tons of short video tutorials to explain most of the core functionality

Good Use of Feature Sets vs Tradeoffs

I have been using the Roland Fantom 07 for over a year now and have enough confidence under the belt to weigh in on its capabilities. A little background to start.

Firstly, my purpose for buying this instrument was to significantly slim down my live rig while attempting to future-proof performance needs. Secondly, it had been over a decade since I owned/used any sort of workstation-style instrumentation and wanted to bring those types of facilities (all-in-one, better sampling, control, polyphony/layering, etc) back in. Thirdly, I have serious "gear acquisition syndrome" and needed to not break the bank (or back) to achieve my goal.

I've been a long-time Roland user and fan, so no-brainer to look at the Fantom 0 line. I also love the 76-key format for performance, to me its the perfect balance of range w/o the jump to weighted keys. The Fantom 07 ticked a lot of my boxes.

In Use:
It sounds stunningly huge, most notably so on the synth end. The pianos and mechanical keys are more than adequate, just not quite to the quality of the Nord Stage 3 this was partially replacing. Orchestral and string sounds are great, and include some useful controllable nuances.

Things I Like:
- A LOT of features and power packed in, with fairly comprehensive editing, sampling and sequencing capabilities - As someone who likes to program his own sounds, I was surprised at the overall depth and relative ease of programming. The ZenCore engine is intue
- Great performance controls, good optionality with deep customization
- Good intuitive User Interface, even though there is a fair amount of menu diving required; most useful items aren't more than two/three clicks deep
- Good variety and routing options for effects
- Scenes are incredibly customizable
- Decent value / tradeoffs vs forking out for full-blown Fantom 7
- Super light and portable

Things For Which I Have Less Enthusiasm:
- Its not a huge deal, but . . . cheap-ish construction, very "Juno D-like" - I realize this is part of what helps achieve the price point and smaller, lighter form-factor. But it doesn't feel totally like I would have expected for the price, either. Already pretty dinged up after 18 mo.
- Power supply: Again, compromise for form and price, I get it. But they could have at least made the length of the cord somewhat useable - SUUUUUPER short. Got a little too animated at a show last week and accidentally pulled plug out of wall end mid-song. Not enough slack.
- Having to use thumb drive as go-between for certain applications is a bit of a drag.
- The Zone 2-only Tonewheel Organ / TW Organ-instances limitations are odd. Work-around-able, but odd.

In summary, this does everything I need it to and more, sounds great and is an affordable, more portable alternative to the flagship Fantom version. Does it have the "cool" factor onstage? Not really (is any workstation cool??), but that is not the point, either. It allows a gigging musician for any show to easily in carry a tool that has tons of firepower and can cover any genre/application.

Satisfied customer. Shout out to Stuart Niven for always handling my

Really Great sounds - missing a few things though

I bought this to replace my VR-09 and JP-8000 so I wouldn't have to carry two keyboards to gigs. I'm very happy with the sounds overall, but there are a few nitpicking things that present in the VR-09 that are missing or odd here.

The otherwise fantastic sounding B3 module is missing a lower/upper register split that none of the online reviews mention. You can only have one of those B3 modules active (in zone 2). You can get two split sounds by using the B3 module with some other sample based sound (which are nice I guess), but they won't run through the same Lesley simulator so the sound isn't modulating quite right.

There's no way to trigger the slow/fast of the Lesley with the sustain pedal like on the VR-09. While you can assign various parameters to the expression pedals, the sustain pedal is strictly a sustain pedal. Bummer.

The split functionality is weird as it splits between zone 1 and zone 4. For me, if I have 2 or more sounds, typically one is the B3 organ which is locked to zone 2 and so the auto split isn't helpful. You can manually set the split points, so this isn't that big of a deal, but this could be much better if upon pressing 'split', the keyboard would split based on what zones you have active when you pressed a key for each zone split it creates.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
