Esteemed FG Acoustic Infused with Authentic Japanese Artistry

Yamaha's flagship FG9 R dreadnought acoustic guitar was conceived upon the idea of genuine Japanese craftsmanship. From top to bottom, this guitar hosts that intention in every detail. Each piece of spruce and rosewood is carefully chosen, ensuring the most authentic and mellow acoustic output with unparalleled clarity. Take into account its optimized bracing pattern, bone nut and saddle, and durable hardware, and the FG9 R provides impressive tone for all players. Its fan-favorite body style and semi-gloss neck supply a comfortable playing foundation for both stage and studio use. Similarly, a wonderfully-manufactured mahogany neck with reasonable string action deliver a well-balanced fretting surface for easy note and chord transitions. After playing this guitar for ourselves, the verdict is clear: the FG9 R's discerning tone and charming good looks form an instrumental opportunity that cannot be passed up.

Hand-selected tonewoods supply immaculate tone

Yamaha understands the importance of tonewoods to the discerning player — that’s why they send their most prestigious luthiers to hand pick the build materials for every FG9 guitar. The Adirondack spruce top and rosewood back and sides on the FG9 R build upon its dreadnought body style, emitting a warm and pronounced midrange with exceptional high-end clarity. The rosewood on the FG9 R especially provides a tighter response with increased tonal depth. These characteristics, along with the superb vibration transfer of its mahogany neck, make the FG9 R an excellent choice for singer-songwriters, impromptu performances, and studio recording sessions. No matter how you plan on utilizing this guitar, its projective output is sure to fill any playing space with distinctly rich and uplifting acoustic tone.

Attentive Japanese construction

One quick glance at this guitar was enough to enamor several guitarists here at Sweetwater. Handcrafted Japanese-inspired elements including a rope rosette and graceful pickguard complete the FG9 R’s character as a traditional instrument while providing undoubted good looks. Upon closer inspection, its ebony fingerboard neck reveals Kumiki-inspired fingerboard markers — a boutique detail that, in addition to guiding easy note transitioning, tops off the FG9 R’s incredible craftsmanship to a T.

Crowned with player-preferred hardware and appointments

The FG9 R’s elegance extends with a stunning collection of top-shelf fittings. Open-gear black nickel tuning machines and black nickel hardware provide a distinct look while generating solid intonation support. Pairing this with a semi-gloss mahogany neck and ample 11.0mm string spacing ensures comfortable action no matter your play style. Take one strum and the FG9 R’s bone nut and saddle will coax nothing but the most accurate tones out of your instrument. Topped off with its assembly of pleasing Japanese arrangements, this acoustic combines complete player control with admirable visual charm.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Superb

I liked my Yamaha A5R so much that I went ahead and ordered this. I had looked very hard at the Martins and Taylors (up and down their lines.)
This FG9R guitar is amazing. Build quality is off the chart. It sounds incredible and the playability factor is (is that a word/phrase?) outstanding.
I could not be happier.
