Way Better Than Expected

So I don't normally do reviews, but the negative ones on this rack had me anxious about the order and I feel like it deserves better. I was expecting a flimsy meh item with misaligned pilot holes, missing pilot holes, bad packaging, bad instructions, missing parts etc. What I received was surprisingly good.

Either Gator has addressed everyone's complaints, I was lucky and got 2 good ones, or people have crazy expectations.

Packaging should get an "over performs" because one of them was late and looked like it fell off a truck. The thing was completely fine without a dent or a scratch. This is packed way better than the other flat pack furniture you would get on Wayfair etc with thick plastic corners and a lot of padding. A++ to whoever designed the box. Saved me a return for sure.

It is surprisingly burly, which you want out of a 10U rack. The pics are deceiving or something, but it was way more substantial, with thicker side panels and also heavier than expected.

On the pilot holes: for the pull out, the rack rails and the feet you only get some small divots to show where to put the wood screws. A lot of people complained about this. I think this is by design actually. Given the potential heft of the equipment you can put in here, you want the screws to have more bite into the wood. The marks they provided were more than enough to get it started and you can put this thing together with only a decent drill with a phillips bit and a flathead screwdriver.

I did have one small issue with one of the feet, there was a bur in the threading preventing the bolt from the leveling foot from going in. I was able fix it with my tap and die kit but I probably would have been fine using some force to drive it through. So maybe 4.5 for that out of 5. Still, great value for me anyway.

So, for the price, this thing by far exceeded the low expectations all of the other reviews set. If you can use a drill to drive a wood screw and can take instructions from diagrams (cough, aren't we engineers if we are buying this thing?) you should be very pleased with this rack.

Great addition to the studio!

I have seen other reviews speak about this in both positive and negative ways. Let me be totally clear… this sidecar is fantastic. The wood is super solid. None of that cheap Office Depot or IKEA wood that regular computer desks are made from. It's solid and heavy. I didn't have any issues with incorrect spacing or holes that I had to redrill either like some reviews spoke of. Everything was perfectly packed and shipped with care from Sweetwater. I have it sitting off to the side of my Gator Frameworks desk and it looks beautiful. The rack is solid as well. Robust metal, not flimsy, and it comes with screws and washers for installing gear.

Couldn't be more happy with it!

Heavy Duty Rack

This Rack is very heavy. Don't worry anyone would be able to carry it away. I am worried about one thing-how would I be able to transport this rack if I were to move. Perhaps, I need to take apart my racks and hire 4 movers to carry this to truck. Very impressed by the material. It's of utmost quality and built like a foundation of a house.

Great Rack…

I bought this to go with gator framework desk and it works flawlessly. I'm thinking of getting a second to put on the other side of desk. The rack is very sturdy and the drawer works great for laptops or desktop interface. My UA Apollo x4 fits on the drawer perfectly. Everything racks up great with no issues.

Great and Robust

Easy to assemble. It seems like it's made of quality materials; the thing is pretty heavy, which I like in a rack, since it's protecting my gear. The little tray is very useful. I have a Microbrute sitting on it. I use this rack it to hold my Eurorack stuff and my various other studio utilities, i.e patchbay, DI interface, etc. Fits nicely in my room and really makes it feel like a proper studio.
