Nearly Perfect but One Major Flaw

Would have rated this one 4.5 stars once I became familiar with using this pedal, but there was one thing I found that was very annoying:

Unlike most Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices, this one needs to "pair" with your Mac, Android or iOS device every time you turn it on, even though it is "recognized" and is listed among your other Bluetooth devices. For example, whenever I want to use this pedal with Camelot Pro on my iPad, Camelot shows this pedal in my Bluetooth device list. However, I have to put the pedal in "pairing" mode after I turn it on by pressing the Bluetooth button once before Camelot sees it.

Why has Boss not designed this pedal's Bluetooth chip to automatically pair to the last device it connected to? Why is Windows the only OS that doesn't require constant pairing?

Maybe there will be a firmware update that resolves this. For now, I'll just have to remember to "Pair, or Beware!"

Cheers.

Best pedal for controlling Neural DSP plugins!!

I got this a few days ago because I got tired of manually automating the whammy effect in Archetype Gojira and wanted to record the effect in real time to speed up my workflow. It took a bit of time to setup and figure out but once I did it was smooth sailing! The latency is almost nonexistent and the pedal is incredibly responsive. If you're looking for a way to control these parameters or any expression parameters in your DAW, this is definitely the pedal to do it.

New Life For Katana Air

READ THE SETUP MANUAL STEP BY STEP!!! Avoid any headaches and disappointments!

FIRST, make sure the Katana-Air firmware is up-to-date! Follow the bluetooth connects setup - 1a, 1b, then 2!!! In the Katana-Air BTS app, select and setup "Pedal Wah", under the FX list. REMEMBER to SAVE each patch used! You can move it around later. After that, you're good to GO!

The Volume/Wah pedal works GREAT! Adding the FS-6 gives you handsfree patch switching, AWESOME!!! I feel like I'm playing with a new amp, with new flexibility. I'm in love again. ...but I might not invite you to the wedding. LOL

Viva Wireless!

I hate tripping over cords at home and when performing. Now I can change patches, Use it as a wah pedal and more without wires. I've been waiting to use this with my Katana Air for a Complete Bluetooth Rig

Fantastic way to add functionality to an HX Stomp

I needed to add expression pedal function to my HX Stomp, but my foot switch expression input was taken up with a two button foot switch. So, I started looking into MIDI. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a big, expensive MIDI controller, especially because I wanted to keep my HX Stomp rig as small and light as possible. Then I came across this MIDI enabled dual expression pedal and it seemed like the perfect solution.

When I received the unit, I had everything set up and working with the Stomp in under an hour, despite knowing next-to-nothing about MIDI. All I needed to do was to use the app (smart phone only as far as I can tell) to set the expression pedals to CC one and two, and the expression functions worked instantly with the stomp connected with a MIDI cable 1/8 inch to 5-pin). Then I added an external (latching) dual foot switch and set one switch to swap between stomp and snapshot views, and set the other foot switch to access the tuners. The. CC codes and values are on page 56 of the HX Stomp 3.0 manual. I can now easily access three snapshots, and then press a single button to change to stomp mode. The other dual foot switch is set to scroll presets up and down.

So, for the price of this unit, plus some simple foot switches, I have expanded the functionality of my Stomp dramatically.

Be advised, the EV-1-WL doesn't allow you to use certain MIDI values (CC 32-63 do not appear in the app). For example, the CC codes HX Stomp uses to emulate foot switches 1-5 are not supported. But, if you are using the three buttons on the unit with an external two-button switch, you won't need to emulate footswitches 1-5 anyway. For my purposes, though everything is working just the way I hoped I would.

The unit itself is all plastic, but it appears durable. It's also small and light, but its operation is very smooth. I don't even think about it when I'm playing, so it's definitely working for me. I've only had I a few days, but it's a keeper (for me).
