Iconic Super-jumbo Acoustic-electric from Epiphone

The King of the Flat-tops is reborn in the Inspired by Gibson J-200 Acoustic Guitar from Epiphone. This super-jumbo classic has all the vintage tone, design, and playability of the original at an amazing price. The Epiphone J-200 offers a solid Sitka spruce top and solid figured maple back and sides for a knockout blend of punchy high end and robust midrange and low end. A 2-piece maple neck with mahogany center strip and Indian laurel fingerboard deliver incredible playability and response. And when you are ready to plug in, onboard Fishman electronics provide pristine amplified acoustic tone.

A storied tradition spanning decades of legendary artists

The SJ-200 first appeared in 1937, becoming much sought after for the big volume and projection that made it ideal for ensembles that included banjo and fiddle. It would go on to prominence through the ’50s and into the present, with the likes of Elvis Presley, Tex Ritter, Jimmy Page, and Bob Dylan all falling for its one-of-a-kind tone. Strum a first-position open chord, and you’ll hear the Epiphone J-200's massive, full sound and impressive projection — easily enough to fill a room even when unplugged! Just like the aforementioned legends, many of us here at Sweetwater have been won over by the J-200.

No detail left behind

Epiphone wanted to bring you the detailed appointments that make the J-200 such a visual delight for both you and your audience. The Epiphone J-200 features an aged gloss finish that lets the natural spruce really live. A vintage pickguard with flower-and-dot design and maple moustache bridge with curved block inlays are iconic centerpieces of the J-200 that will delight you and your audience. The Indian laurel fingerboard also features the unmistakably classic mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays. And to top it all off, a vintage graduated crown inlay on the headstock and classic Epiphone Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons are also included on this amazing acoustic-electric.

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. From our online Guitar Gallery that allows you to see and select the exact instrument you want to our 55-point Inspection process and our in-house guitar techs, we take the guesswork out of buying your next guitar online.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

5 stars of greatness!

Love love love this beautiful creative of an instrument! The aged look has everyone checking it out when I go to perform at the local venues.
I bought the padded jumbo Gator case but don't really like it much. It does protect the guitar fine it's just to flexible and bending when placing the Epiphone inside .
So, I ordered the hard shell Epiphone case for it because this gem needs to be well taken care of.
I was sceptical about an online purchase for another guitar but I'm not at all disappointed.
Usually you'd want to pick it up and play it some before buying but this is my 2nd acoustic electric I have bought from Sweetwater and they do set them up nicely there.
Well worth $ !!!!!
I believe that I'm playing an actual Gibson when I perform with it.
My EF341SC Takamine was my first purchase from Sweetwater and it's been my workhouse up until I got this Epiphone J200 .

I've used it once in front of a live audience and I already know it will be my new workhorse!

Buy this thing if you really want a Nice J200 it will not disappoint.
Oh!!!!! The Fishman sonitone preamp has big kahonas as well.
Play on brothers & sisters!

50 years into the music

The only reason I'm not giving this review 5 stars is because Epiphone made installing the 9V battery extremely hard to accomplish.
The battery cord/hookup is dangling inside of the soundhole.
There's a small Velcro pouch that is glued inside the soundhole just under the end of the neck.
I like to never got a battery in it with the strings on.

The strings need to be off to really access it well!
So on conclusion to this issue, this means if the battery goes dead during a performance then you might as well go to your spare backup guitar.

Other than that , the guitar is quite beautiful and sounds great unplugged.
Can't wait to see how it sounds plugged into my gear.

I bought the gator gig bag made for this jumbo guitar. It's ok but not what I expected for $ which was marked down from a slightly higher price.

I've owned 4 j200 Epiphones in the past but this one plays and sounds the best thus far.
The quality is very good in the craftsmanship as should be for an inspired Gibson.
I do think Epiphone could benefit with giving a case along with these fine acoustic electric's.
I recently bought a PRS A60 e that came with its own case.
I also have a EF341SC Takamine that came with one, hard shell with both!

I mean I would've still purchased it for a little more bucks if the case was included.
I really hate when the marketing strategy is to get you to buy something else to help complete your instrument's safety .
I just believe that should be the company's priority to get the customer coming back for quality and craftsmanship, not just make an extra buck.

I know it's more cons than pros in my review but it seems to me that since the pandemic more and more companies are giving us less and asking for more.

But hey!
It's a great instrument!!!!
Well worth the $ and I'll make that back soon with my performances with this awesome guitar.

Happy playing!!!

Very happy with it

This is in my opinion a great deal of a guitar. Solid top and sides , spruce and maple construction. The action was great right out of box easy and fun to play. Sound quality could be a little more open/less thin more bass in my opinion but it's an Epiphone and I am happy with what I got for the money. Also built in electronics! Definitely recommended if you don't want to spend for the Gibson.

All I can say is "WOW!"

This instrument exceeded my hopes and expectations. It looks great, sounds great and plays great. I bought the instrument as a demo model that had what Sweetwater said was a blemish. Upon arrival and inspection, I found no blemish. Sweetwater and my sales engineer, Tyler Moore, have always delivered quality products and unsurpassed service. Thank you Epiphone, Sweetwater AND Tyler.
