Warm, Rich Tone for Acoustic or Electric Playing

Sweetwater can’t sing the praises of the Epiphone El Capitan J-200 Studio Bass enough. This killer acoustic-electric bass takes cues from The King of Flat-tops, reviving decades-old tone and projection for the modern age. Play acoustically and you’ll be treated to the warm, rich, bright, and organic tones of this bass’s Sitka spruce top and layered mahogany back and sides. Plug in, and the onboard Fishman electronics provide pristine amplified acoustic tone. The El Capitan J-200 Studio also rings in rich tone and resonance with a mahogany neck capped with a smooth-playing Indian laurel fingerboard. Bassists who want an acoustic bass with great sound and incredible style reach for the Epiphone El Capitan J-200. After all, its iconic mustache bridge puts forward visual representation of the superior tones hidden within.

Charming inside and out

When it comes to acoustic-electric charm, the El Capitan J-200 passes every test. Its composition of Sitka spruce for the top and layered mahogany for the back, sides, and neck combine to deliver tonal qualities brimming with warm organic tones and bright projection. A 30.5-inch scale length and 20-fret Indian Laurel fingerboard make this bass an excellent choice for a range of hand sizes. Plus, the Medium “C” neck profile makes for a comfortable fretting experience. Pearloid crown inlays on the fingerboard, figured maple binding, and a moustache bass bridge add a magnetic elegance to the bass that makes it hard to ignore.

Set sail with Fishman Sonicore electronics

The El Capitan J-200 sounds fantastic played acoustically, but bassists can easily plug-in for a taste of excellent acoustic-electric tone. The El Capitan J-200 features Fishman electronics that comprise a Sonitone under-saddle pickup and a Sonicore preamp with volume and tone controls mounted under the sound hole. Every time you walk the neck or play a harmonic chord, you’ll be treated to accurate sound reproduction and glorious, full bass tone imbued with the delicate sounds of the tonewoods. Take it to the stage or rock it in the studio, the El Capitan J-200 has acoustic-electric capabilities for all.

A storied tradition spanning decades of legendary artists

The SJ-200 first appeared in 1937, becoming much sought after for the big volume and projection that made it ideal for ensembles that included banjo and fiddle. It would go on to prominence through the ’50s and into the present, with the likes of Elvis Presley, Tex Ritter, Jimmy Page, and Bob Dylan all falling for its one-of-a-kind tone. Now you can get your hands on the low-end descendent of this acoustic marvel. Just like the aforementioned legends, many of us here at Sweetwater have been won over by the El Capitan J-200 Studio.

Epiphone El Capitan J-200 Studio Acoustic-electric Bass Guitar Features:

  • A bass inspired by a 1937 acoustic guitar with incredible projection and volume
  • Sitka spruce top and mahogany back, sides, and neck combine for bright projection and warm, organic tones
  • Indian laurel fingerboard with Medium "C" profile neck, 30.5-inch scale length, and 20 frets feels comfortable in many different sized hands
  • Fishman Sonitone under-saddle pickup and Sonicore preamp produce realistic tones and delightful response
  • Volume and tone controls mounted under the soundhole
  • Pearloid crown inlays on the fingerboard, figured maple binding, and a moustache bass bridge add undeniable style

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!
