A Bass That's Worthy of the Embassy Name

The Epiphone Embassy earns every letter of its name, standing proudly as a tribute to the 1963 original. And it's better than ever, boasting improved balance and looks with a 2-per-side headstock and an extended upper horn. It's also equipped with ProBucker 760 bass pickups that replicate the original Gibson mid-1960s Thunderbird pickups, as well as cool original barrel-style knobs for volume, tone, and blend. With its solid mahogany body, mahogany neck, and Indian laurel fingerboard, this bass has a rich, thumpy, warm low end and smooth playability.

Balance is the key to life — and performance

The former Embassy reissues had extremely long horns; this model pulls the lower horn way back and slightly reduces the upper horn for better overall balance. The bassists here at Sweetwater were also quick to appreciate the symmetry of the Embassy's 2-per-side headstock. All in all, this bass has a comfortable center of gravity that makes long gigs a pleasure.

Top-notch hardware and electronics for the serious player

The ProBucker 760 bass pickups really capitalize on the resonance and rich tone of the Embassy's mahogany body. Just like the replica mid-1960s bass Tune-o-matic bridge with claw tailpiece, its ProBuckers are a nod to vintage style and performance that will stand the test of time. What's more, this modern Embassy gives you a blend knob for more tonal flexibility. At the other end of the neck, premium die-cast bass tuners anchor the strings with superior stability for consistent, reliable tuning.

Epiphone Embassy Bass Features:

  • Well-balanced, great-looking bass takes the pain out of long sessions and shows
  • An homage to 1960s Embassy basses, with significant gains in playability and performance
  • ProBucker 760 pickups bring out the warmth and punch of the solid mahogany body
  • Blend knob provides you with added tonal flexibility
  • Replica mid-1960s bass Tune-o-matic bridge and claw tailpiece exude solid vintage vibe
  • Bridge and neck volume and master tone controls feature groovy original barrel-style knobs

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Very Impressed

Great Bass !
Plays like a long scale feels like a short scale. Light, well balanced very comfortable neck. Pickups nail the TBird tone. Epiphone got it right with this beauty. Looks Stunning.

Who needs a Thunderbird anyway?

This was my first bass. The price was right, the looks were right, what could possibly go wrong?

Absolutely nothing, that's what. Out of the box, this Embassy played like a dream. It has all the deep, warm thud you'd expect from a Thunderbird in an incredibly attractive, light, ergonomic package. This thing is a pleasure to hold, either on a strap or over your knee. While the neck radius is noticeably thicker than other offerings, it remains incredibly easy to play, and I found myself picking it up and advancing in no time after coming from the guitar world. The volume/blend/tone layout is incredibly intuitive to use, with a satisfying detent in the blend switch to tell you when you've reached middle position. Not to mention, everywhere it goes, it turns heads. Most people don't know what it is when they see it, but be warned, they'll want to find out.

If there are any cons? They're incredibly minor. A satin neck is almost always superior to gloss, but I haven't found this one holding me up one bit. The protective covering over the pick guard is nigh impossible to completely remove, and I'm pretty sure I still have bits of it under my pots. My example was lighter at 7lbs 3oz, and sustain is sometimes not as great as I would like it to be, perhaps as a result of that. And yes, Thunderbird tone means Thunderbird tone, for better or for worse - and you should make sure that's what you're looking for before investing.

But these are minor gripes; small potatoes in what is an otherwise delicious, savory, sumptuous feast. The bottom line is this: if you're considering this bass, especially while there's promotional financing or any other sort of sale going on, pull the trigger already. You won't be disappointed.
