What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

S-tier for personal listening

beyerdynamic dt 1990 pro review.

premium build. doesn't weigh a lot, despite its metallic construction. secure clamp force but not too tight. using balanced pads only. (it comes with two. the second are analytical pads for a more neutral sound.) the dt 1990 is comfy and good for long listening.

sound is detailed on all fronts. it has punchy bass for an open back and i really like that. mids are recessed a little (compared to something more mid-range forward like the drop sennheiser 6xx)—but vocals are rich. there's clarity and the tone in this headphone outshines anything i've heard so far.

i've used the dt 1990 pro on a headphone amp with vinyl, cd, and lossless streaming via tidal and the high treble people mention in reviews isn't a concern. i didn't connect it to an external DAC (yet), so the 1990's treble is fine. it can always be EQed later or paired with a tube amp if desired since it's a 250 ohm headphone. i like it in its stock form.

as an open back, music has a good balance of space. the soundstage isn't too close or wide. imaging is spot on.

the headphones are bulky, they don't fold, and the cups don't swivel wide, so they're ideal for home/studio use. not good to take on the go. at higher volumes, they leak sound like crazy due to the open design. i've used them in the office at lower volumes and the headphones can be played through the phone, ipod, laptop through a headphone jack—but they're best paired with an amp to get them to really sing.

i replaced the stock straight cable with a short third party one from amazon for something with more flexibility. the only thing i don't like is the exposed wired from the headband to the earcups, which i read has been a beyerdynamic staple from early on.

conclusion: fun, detailed, and musical. the best set i've listened to and perfect for causal and critical listening. to top performance at this level, i assume you'd have to go higher than $, but in the $ to $ range, this is straight up king.

The new Beyerdynamic King

I have a small collection of high headphones and this is one of my favorites. With the disappointing changes that Beyerdynamic did to the T1 3rd generation, these cans are the best from Beyer. Do not hesitate buying them, just make sure you connect them to a decent amp/dac. They are very easy to power them. I have them plugged in to my Macbook pro and an Audioquest Dragonfly Cobalt (blue). Sweetwater customer service was outstanding by the way.

Great for the price,

This was totally worth the wait. If you need something good, not too expensive and great sounding. Came perfect in the box and everything feels like $500

But I think these are Semi-Open.

P.S. It took me a while to adapt to these headphones. My ears were not used to the clarity and separation. I was using other headphones(Sony) and compared the sound of the two. I cant believe I wasn't using the DT1990 before.

DT 1990

Very nice set of headphones. A little bright, but oh so detailed! Sounds great on a tube amp, adds a little warmth to the sound.
Low end is tight not too heavy, just right!
I'm very happy with the 1990's, good clean detailed sound!
