Serious Tone from This High-output Neck Humbucker!

The DiMarzio Evolution humbucking pickup gives you plenty of output and rich tone, and now Sweetwater offers it to you! Originally developed for legendary guitarist Steve Vai, the Evolution features 4-conductor wiring, ceramic magnets, and DiMarzio's patented dual-resonance configuration, which produces more harmonic overtones than conventional humbuckers. A great pickup for pushing your amp to its full tonal potential, this pickup is ideal for high-octane live performance applications - while giving you plenty of definition for the studio, too. Take your axe's performance to the next level with the Evolution!

DiMarzio Evolution Humbucking Electric Guitar Pickup at a Glance:
  • Developed for Vai's guitars
  • Plays well with others
  • Great sound with a range of guitars

Developed for Vai's guitars
The result of two years of research to come up with the right sound for Steve Vai's guitars, DiMarzio's Evolution bridge and neck pickups are designed for maximum impact and power. The neck pickup is fat, punchy and loud. The bridge pickup is tight, aggressive and louder. Both pickups have DiMarzio's patented dual-resonance configuration to reproduce more harmonic overtones than conventional humbuckers. Evolution pickups are not polite-sounding, and they're not for the inexperienced, but - if you've got the chops and a hot amp - your sound will burn. Evolution pickups were originally designed with live gigs in mind, but they have so much presence and definition that they're great for recording pickups, too, slicing right through even the densest mix.

Plays well with others
Evolution pickups will work in almost all solidbodies and most semi-hollowbodies as well. Call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer for details about which pickup suits your particular guitar best.

Great sound with a range of guitars
Evolution pickups work great with bolt-on neck guitars and can add a lot of punch and definition to Les Pauls and similar set-neck guitars - even the lowest bass notes really jump out of the amp, and feedback occurs easily with a wide range of harmonic overtones.

Better replacement!

After replacing the bridge pickup on my old epiphone the perfect match was the neck. It adds a lot of color and tonal options. Is there an evovution in your prophecy? There is in mine!

Great Tone

The guitar that this pup went into is a new guitar!! This is a great Neck pup! Chords ring out nicely for rhythm and playing lead has a great, mellow edge to it too. Amazing choice.

Meets my needs

I have a 1986 Explorer that I have not played in a long time. It has a Duncan Distortion in the bridge position and another Duncan in the neck. I wasn't sure what Duncan it was in the neck because I had put them in so long ago. When I removed the Duncan in the neck and checked the designation on it, I discovered it is a Duncan Distortion for the neck position and was commonly known as "the Seymorizer."

When I activated both pickups on the Explorer, there was an overwhelming amount of bass with very little mids and highs, and the neck Duncan totally overpowered the Duncan Distortion in the bridge such that all I got was a muddy sound that was mostly pure bass. It's been that way for more than 20 years, but since I started playing again recently, I felt the time was right to make a change.

After much hair-pulling research, I decided on the DiMarzio Evolution due to the fact that it gives an increase in mids and highs as well as bass. The installation was a breeze, and this pickup increased the mids and highs to the point where they could be heard equal to the bass tones, which is what I was looking for. It's a great pickup with a wide tonal spectrum for playing rhythms where that kind of thing is needed.
