A Special Edition of D’Angelico’s Popular Compact Semi-hollow

Custom-spec’d by Sweetwater, the D’Angelico Premier Mini DC XT is a highly playable semi-hollowbody electric guitar with killer tone and eye-popping visuals. The Premier Mini DC XT’s smaller semi-hollow body is extremely comfortable and yields a bright, rich, resonant sound with loads of bite and sustain, while a solid center block ensures a feedback-free performance. Upgraded features include locking tuners, an exclusive finish, and a pair of Seymour Duncan USA humbuckers that serve up a banquet of tone for every occasion, from jazzy cleans to high-octane rock. Navigating this guitar’s comfortable, fast "C"-shaped neck is effortless, as your fingers dance on its smooth bound ovangkol fingerboard. The Premier Mini DC XT boasts high-end aesthetic touches such as mother-of-pearl block fingerboard inlays, multi-ply binding and tortoise pickguard, and a unique Skyscraper truss rod cover. Only available at Sweetwater, the D’Angelico Premier Mini DC XT is a cross-genre can-do semi that will ace any live gig or studio session.

Reduced-size body, fast neck, and silky fingerboard

Playing the D’Angelico Deluxe Premier Mini DC XT is sheer joy. It features a reduced-size laminated flame maple body and a solid center block for epic tone with solidbody-grade sustain and feedback resistance. Its maple neck boasts a comfortable C profile for the perfect blend of grip and ease of movement. Its 14-inch radius fingerboard features 22 medium vintage frets. This silky smooth ovangkol fretboard enables comfortable chording while facilitating technically demanding leads. The instrument’s easy hand feel is a byproduct of its 25-inch scale length, which makes bends and vibrato feel effortless, while its double cutaway body shape gives you optimized high-register access. For rock-solid tuning stability, the Premier Mini DC XT is equipped with locking Grover Stairstep Imperial tuners, while a custom PPS nut bolsters sustain and eliminates string binding.

Seymour Duncan USA pickups deliver vintage humbucking tone

The D’Angelico Premier Mini DC XT comes loaded with a set of Seymour Duncan humbuckers. Expertly designed, hand wound, and assembled by the Master Builders at Seymour Duncan’s Santa Barbara, Calif., factory, these vintage-inspired pickups — each optimized for its position along the string length — are great all-rounders that deliver warm, full-bodied humbucking tone with crystalline clarity. One of the most popular bridge pickups on the planet, the Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB positively wails through a properly cranked tube amp and cleans up nicely with a pinky twist of its volume pot. The SH-2n Jazz humbucker is one of our favorite neck pickups. Period. Without too much gain, it has the perfect number of highs for chimey rhythm parts and jazzy leads that hold their own in a mix. This potent sonic elixir is routed through a 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and per-pickup volume and tone controls. From jazz and fusion to blues, rock, and country, the D’Angelico Premier Mini DC XT delivers.

The D’Angelico legacy

After mastering his craft during an 18-year apprenticeship, luthier John D’Angelico opened his own shop in Manhattan’s Little Italy in 1932. Catering to New York’s many jazz musicians over the ensuing three decades, D’Angelico and a single apprentice became New York’s foremost stringed instrument builders, creating over 1,000 treasured archtop guitars until John’s death in 1964. After his passing, the D’Angelico’s legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. Decades later, the D’Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of the company’s New York roots. Today, Sweetwater is delighted to offer this fine line of distinguished instruments. D’Angelico uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and the finest available materials to create playable works of art for today’s guitarist. From a modest shop in Little Italy to the world stage, D’Angelico’s dedication to quality craftsmanship ensures that this brand won’t be going dormant again any time soon.

Smoking hot guitar

I'm just a simple guy, who likes simple things. I don't like a punch of pull this, press that, etc. to try and dial in a tone. This guitar is NONE of that.
This guitar is jam packed with tone! Actual Seymour Duncan pickups, not knock offs. I have the same pickup combo (jazz neck/JB bridge) on a hollow body I bought a few years ago. Trust me, it's the configuration that will give you great sounds for jazz, blues, rock, and even heavy metal.

The build quality is exceptional. The flat radius neck allows for huge bends without choking out. The frets are polished and feel like glass. When you hold this guitar, you'll immediately see that it's not a Gibson, but it's easily 75% of a Gibson. At $ it's 25% the cost of a Gibson. To me, that is a perfect ratio. I was blown away at the quality when I first held it in my hands. Those of you who own, or have played a lot of guitars, you'll know the feeling I'm talking about. That feeling of Wow! when you feel the solid construction and the light sparkles when it bounces off the hardware. Then you plug it in and laugh because no guitar should be this great, for such a low price. It's a steal.

Like I said, I'm a simple guy. Simple questions bring true answers. So here is what I will tell you. There are a lot of D'Angelico guitars on the second hand market that are "B stock" guitars. This model doesn't have "B stock" versions floating around because it's a Sweetwater exclusive. Sweetwater adds a second layer of quality control. By being a contractual Sweetwater exclusive, Sweetwater makes sure these models are blemish free or they are rejected. That goes a LONG way in buyer confidence. Knowing that when this guitar arrives, it's not going to need to be returned or modified. Right out of the box, the guitar played like a dream. I can't say that about other guitars I own from Indonesia. The fret ends are smooth, frets are level and highly polished. For $ this guitar seems too good to be true. But it's true. And it's so great, my brother fell in love with it. It took me having to buy him one of his own, just to get mine back.

Lastly, here's a good gauge to see the beauty of these Sweetwater exclusive minis. Look around the internet. You will not find this model guitar for sale second hand. They don't exist in the second hand market. Why not? Because they're so good, nobody parts with them. This contract between D'Angelico and Sweetwater won't last forever. Eventually this model will cease production. When it does, they're gone for good. Don't let procrastination keep you from experiencing a true gem. Get one today!

Smooth as Silk Mini DC XT

Everything that you crave in a semi-hollow. If you're looking for a 345/335 - this one is easily in a league with the best of them. Plays like BUTTER. Tone to die for. The JB / Jazz Duncan Hot Rod combo is a dream team! I have a collection of some nice rides - this may be the one of the sweetest! Sweetwater support was phenomenal! Thanks Zac Coleman!

Impressive Guitar

I almost always play fender strats, but I like to have other guitars around to. This guitar has me favoring it over my beloved strats many days. I'm super impressed with the sound of the guitar. These humbuckers are bright and clear like a single coil but thicker. Amazing really, and plenty of output, I favor to play it through a tube champ and at about 4 on the dial its blasting and touching breakup when played hard. The build quality of the guitar overall is solid, very solid feel in your hands like you would expect from the highest end gibsons. However there are some issues I will point out. Specs of black under the finish on areas of the binding. One fret lifting at the edge. The input jack was loose. Other than that its flawless. I had bought a 339 in 2007 when they came out, and a 335 a few years back and neither of them are as good as this guitar in my opinion. That being said I don't like the truss cover or tuners, I changed the truss cover and probably won't change the tuners just because they are good tuners but ugly in my opinion. The gig bag seems to be serviceable if you need it, and a nice touch for a guitar at this price. I did fix all the little issues although I almost sent it back instead, but really glad I didn't. I really love the ovangkol fretboard as well. When you start to add up the seymours, grovers and gig bag, this guitar is a super duper value. Its not needing anything to sound fantastic. I can't speak to the quality of the pots or switch because I haven't stuck a mirror in the f holes, however, there is no noise, scratching or otherwise to report. The guitar was set up perfectly for me on delivery. I prefer slightly higher action, the truss rod was correct and the intonation was correct. There is no buzzing when the guitar is fretted properly. No set up needed. I did change the strings, but the stock ones were pretty good. You can't go wrong with this guitar.

Great guitar

Sounds great, plays great, very versatile for any style music. It has one flaw - neck dive, which is common for many guitars. The color is fantastic. The more I play it the more I appreciate how good it is. It's a keeper!
