Well-worn Style with a Tone to Match

Inspired by the historic instruments found in Martin’s guitar museum, the D-18 Street Legend combines classic D-18 specs with a well-worn Custom Ink finish! This acoustic guitar’s thin satin finish sports a touch of visible wear reminiscent of the finest examples of golden-era Martin instruments, with aged open-gear tuners and a satin-aged pickguard to complete the package. Most importantly, the D-18 Street Legend still wholeheartedly embraces the big-bodied tonal formula of Martin’s most iconic mahogany dreadnought design. Genuine mahogany back/sides and a top-quality spruce top instantly unlock the dry, low-end-biased flavor that’s served as Martin’s calling card since the ’dread was first invented! Finish it off with high performance Modified Low Oval neck profile on the ebony-topped-mahogany neck, and Sweetwater’s flatpicking fanatics find that the D-18 is all old-school style, with no compromises when it comes to substance.

Classic "just-right" Martin tone

Ask anyone who knows their bluegrass why the Martin D-18 has been a top choice for serious performers. It's because the D-18's iconic tone sits "just right," cutting through and holding its own without overbearing other instruments. Whether you're playing solo or in a full bluegrass jam, your D-18's rich tone will always be heard without fighting with vocals or covering up the low-end impact from the bass player.

The choice of session guitarists for decades

The Martin D-18's tonality is just as useful in your studio as onstage. Just ask any recording engineer who's been in the business for a couple decades: the D-18 has an uncanny ability to set itself into any mix nicely, with a minimum of processing. Sure, that jumbo-body rosewood guitar looks great, but you'll be rolling off low frequencies and carefully adjusting compressors to prevent it from getting too boomy or indistinct in the final mix. Just grab your Martin D-18, point your favorite small-diaphragm condenser mic at the 12th fret, and you've got a sound that practically mixes itself.

Part of modern music's history

You've already heard the sweet sound of the Martin D-18 more times than you probably realize. That's because it was the choice guitar of legends such as Clarence White, Elvis Presley, and many more. Even Andy Griffith played one on "The Andy Griffith Show." The Martin D-18 is a perfect example of an instrument that became iconic purely based on its tone and craftsmanship.

Martin D-18 Street Legend Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Worn satin finish directly modeled after instruments in Martin’s guitar museum
  • Aged open-gear tuners and a satin-aged pickguard to match the distressed finish
  • An iconic Martin guitar with a focused tone that sits well with a wide variety of instruments
  • Solid spruce top for amazing projection and great note definition
  • Mahogany back and sides for a well-balanced tonal range
  • Focused low-frequency response that sounds tight, never boomy

D-18 Street Legend

I purchased this guitar earlier this year and so far I'm very happy with it. It's got that Vintage Vide even though it's a new guitar. It's everything you would expect from a Standard D-18 but with just a little bit more. Based on the 1953 Martin D-18 that Curt Cobain had gotten from a friend that is now in the Martin Museum. This guitar is relatively lightweight and puts out so much tone and a great sound. I love the Finishing Process they used on the guitar to make it look old. Great way to have a Vintage looking guitar without the Vintage Prices the Vintage Martins are demanding. Has the Forward Shifted braces with scalloped, Ebony Fingerboard, and aged open back Butterbean tuners. Can't go wrong with a Martin guitar! Once again Sweetwater Sales Staff was GREAT to work with and the many times before with earlier purchases. I always get a SWEET Deal when I purchase from Sweetwater!

D-18 Street Legend

I purchased this guitar yesterday from the good folks at Sweetwater. Boy what a GREAT guitar! As soon as I first picked the strings I knew I wanted this guitar. It has all the features you expect from a Martin D-18 Standard and then some. It's very lightweight, got good resonance, very comfortable to play, plenty of volume, and to top it off it has the looks of a vintage 1953 Martin D-18. Martin did a great job making the top look very vintage through their aging process. Looks very authentic! Got to hand it to the Martin Guitar Company for what they do, their quality is second to none! Again, it was a exceptional visit to Sweetwater and to work with their excellent sales staff. I would HIGHLY recommend this guitar to anyone wanting the Vintage Look at the fraction of the cost.
