Classic Design. Hot-rodded Electronics.

To rock bassists who are looking for a fully loaded P- or J-style at a great price, Sweetwater recommends the Schecter CV-4. For slap 'n' pop funk to growly modern rock, this heavily modded 4-string brings the best of the mod shop — including low-noise humbuckers with versatile 3-way series/split/parallel mini toggles — to an undeniably classic-feeling design. The CV-4's slender satiny "C" maple neck with carbon fiber reinforcement and heavily contoured lightweight ash body are super comfortable to play from a seated or standing position. Choice hardware and appointments include an S-Tek bridge with adjustable steel saddles, a permanently lubricated Tusq XL nut, and a 6-bolt neck attachment for drift-free performance on the road.

Classic design with a twist

Nearly every bassist cuts their teeth on the classic design suggested by the Schecter CV-4. The CV-4 brings the response, feel, speed, and vibe of the timeless California design to a hot-rodded modern instrument that's perfect for today's rockers.

Maple-on-ash construction

Hard maple on lightweight ash has been a recipe for great tone since the 1950s. The Schecter CV-4 updates the classic, with a heavily sculpted ash body that hugs the torso, seated or standing, and a 6-bolt maple neck with a satin backing that feels great in the hand.

Versatile series/split/parallel humbuckers

Decades of rock glory await you in the CV-4's Diamond J-Bucker humbucking pickups and versatile electronics. A master volume, master tone, and 3-way pickup selector make it quick and painless to find great sounds in a flash. But for players who a want a deeper dive, mini toggles for each pickup allow you to split the coils for a more traditional single-coil response, or run pickups in series (rather than parallel) for a heavier hit and beefier output.

Schecter CV-4 Electric Bass Guitar Features:

  • A rock-voiced alternative to the California classic
  • Brings the best of the mod shop to a timeless design
  • Lightweight ash body hugs the player for maximum comfort
  • Satiny "C" maple neck with carbon reinforcement feels great in the hand
  • Diamond J-Bucker humbucking pickups with series/split/parallel mini toggles
  • Simple controls: master volume, master tone, 3-way selector
  • Stable S-Tek bridge with adjustable steel saddles
  • Permanently lubricated Tusq XL nut
  • 6-bolt neck attachment for drift-free performance

No relationship is perfect

So, I've now had this for a little over a month now and as far as playability, this thing is a beast. Super smooth neck, great tones and well balanced....that being said, the fit and finish could be better. First you can see that to much material was removed in the neck pocket, and second the chrome finish on the tuners and bridge are bubbled and the finish on the neck washers and screws looks cheap. If it wasn't for the hardware, this would be a 5 star bass. Can't say enough about the playability, just a pleasure to play.

Great Value!

Fit and finish of this bass are top notch. Action perfect right out of the box and no significant movement of the neck over the course of 2 weeks. Really like all the tonal options that are possible with the easy to use pick-up switching. Controls are also well placed - out of the way, but not hard to reach. This instrument is definitely hitting way above its price point - especially on sale.

Surprise!

If your on the fence about buying a bass online and having it shipped, Don't be! Sweetwater did a great job packing it and the instrument came to me 100% playable right out of the box. My sales engineer, Mike Wright, was awesome and took care of everything perfectly. I bought this bass in April of 2021 after a 30 year hiatus of not playing at all. I cannot believe how good this bass is for the price I paid for it. Keep in mind, I am only familiar with passive basses. You can get an excellent jazz bass or p-bass sound out of this bass. It's comfortable to play and it is definitely stage ready! I primarily play blues and jazz style music and flatwound strings sound really nice on this bass. If you are looking for a versatile passive bass that doesn't cost a lot, buy this bass and will be glad you did!.

Schecter nailed it!

First, I will say that most positive reviews of an instrument at this price point say something like, "Great bass for the money." I will just say here and now, GREAT BASS, PERIOD!
Schecter began over 40 years ago as an aftermarket parts maker, mostly known for Fender neck and body replacements. Since they began making their own instruments, they've had some cool models along the way and some forgettable ones.
They knocked this one out of the park! From the neck (P-bass dimensions) to the pickup design to the controls, this passive bass gives me all the Fender tones and THEN some.
The neck pup brings a great P-bass tone and with the coils in series, a P-bass on steroids!
The bridge pup in series and the tone rolled off about 50% gives me the punchiest "Jaco" tone I've ever gotten.
The two pups together in series gets a rich, full Jazz Bass sound that knocks my socks off! Fiddle with the mini toggles and you can dial up a MM tone or a really modern, scooped sound with a nasty little snick when you pop the G-string.

I could go on, but suffice it to say that, with all the Fenders, à Wal and others I own and have owned over the last 48 years, if this were the only bass I could own, I would be a very happy mofo!
My only tiny, little gripe would be that the otherwise great monorail bridge would benefit from standard Phillips adjustment screws instead of the tiny Allan wrenches that you'd better not lose. lol.
I gave this bass a full 5 stars, despite this point.

This is a monster bass....well-built, rich mid-range punch, big bottom, open highs.....just can't say enough about it! Pick one up and see for yourself!

Oh......you're welcome!

Respet for Schecter

I'm a kinda Fender guy. For years, I had many, many basses. I buy, fix, sell, trade, etc. Off couse I have my own private colection, but never ever pay atention to Schecter in over 20 years. I really want a bass that can handle all 3 classics sounds: the pbass, the jbass and the MM. I tried the G&L but I felt that the neck was too chuncky for my test. I had more than a year watching this Schecter, so I took the risk. It really mimic all 3 classics sounds very well, the neck it's a kind of jbass neck and yes, all others features that most of the time are in basses that cost 3 times it price are here too. The other thing that I love so much on this bass is that it's passive but very loud, so no stupid battery issues. Simply awesome job Schecter. Oh, I forgot to said that I made my own setups because I use the action very low, but I have to said that this one came very well in terms of action and entonación. Great job by the guys on Sweetwater.
