Fat ‘60s Strat Pickup Set

Fender Custom Shop Fat ‘60s Strat pickups deliver sweet 1960s single-coil Stratocaster tone with plenty of crisp articulation. The overwound design gives these pickups extra low-end punch for an added shot of high-octane attitude. Spec'd with beveled alnico 2 magnets, Custom Shop Fat ‘60s pickups capture the sound of aged pickups from the early ‘60s — warm lows, rich midrange, and mellow highs — for sumptuous vintage-inspired tone. The middle pickup is also reverse-wound reverse-polarity (RWRP) for hum cancellation in positions 2 or 4. Outfit your Stratocaster with a set of Fat ‘60s pickups from Sweetwater today!

Fender Custom Shop Fat ‘60s Strat Pickup Set Features:

  • 3-pickup set for neck, middle, and bridge positions
  • Wound with Formvar magnet wire
  • Reverse-wound reverse-polarity middle pickup
  • Beveled alnico 2 magnets for warm, sweet sound
  • Made with period-correct materials
  • Includes installation hardware

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While demo items from Fender do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Best strat pickups I've ever played

I bought these pickups for a Warmoth strat build. Was looking for something with warmth and body without being too "sparkly" or "jangly" and the Fat 60's definitely did not disappoint. These are mellow with the right amount of chime - think John Mayer meets David Gilmour, and were also the perfect output for what I was looking for (6.5k). Clarity and fidelity for days - sound amazing clean, dirty, or with fuzz. Absolutely blown away by the sounds I'm able to get with these pickups, and will definitely look to Fender Custom Shop pickups for my next build.

On the mellow end of fine.

As many players know, most pickups are made of AlNiCo magnets. Yes, some are ceramic, but most are AlNiCo. AlNiCo 5 magnets are in Fender Fat 50s, Texas Specials, and most others. The Fat 60s are AlNiCo 2. They have a distinctly different sound than 5. You will need slightly more volume, and slighly more treble. They offer spectacular low frequency response. On the neck or neck and middle pickups, they will give you a jazz-like tone. On the bridge or bridge and middle you get solid bite. They aren't as thin as most bridge Strat pickups. Mine have no noise whatsoever on positions 2 and 4, and a very slight hum at full gain on the other positions. The noise level is actually lower for some reason then on my Gen 4 Noiseless set. Go figure! When you crank up the gain, these pickups come alive with a thick crunch that is spectacular. Of the dozen or so Fender pickups I have owned, these are my favorites. They work best with a 9.5 fingerboard radius. On flat boards with 12 to 15 inch radius, the G string is too close to the pole pieces. The only downside of Fender single coils is that each pole piece isn't adjustable like on a Gibson P90 or humbucker. However, most players will used these on Fender Strats with 7.5 or 9.5 inch fingerboards.

Superior Strat Pickups

I put these in my American Pro 2 Strat, and I couldn't be happier with the tone. I can play everything I want to with these. Don't be dissuaded by the specs, these pickups have plenty of life and character to them. Well worth the money.

Custom Shop Fat '60s RWRP Single-Coil Strat®

This incredible middle pickup has a familiar balls to the walls crunch sound, reminiscent of the old marshall amplifiers from the glory days. The neck is the most playabl of all my strats and I have a bunch. This is one classy axe and do yourself a favor- deal with the peeps at Sweetwater. It's great dealing with them. Very excellent outfit.
