The Innovation of Ovation!

When you play an Ovation Celebrity Standard CS24, you're not only playing a quality guitar, but also an instrument designed with innovation in mind. The Lyrachord body is a durable, lightweight alternative to wood backs and has a smooth interior surface, specifically designed to enhance the reflections inside your instrument. This Celebrity Standard CS24 acoustic-electric guitar features a Mid-depth Cutaway bowl that delivers impressive acoustic sound and comes equipped with an OP-4BT preamp. Ovation guitars have been winners onstage for decades - find out why, with the Ovation Celebrity Standard CS24.

The history of Ovation

In 1964 Charlie Kaman set out to revolutionize the acoustic guitar by compiling a group of aerospace engineers to create something guitar players had never seen or heard before. They discovered that the flat backs of modern day acoustics actually hindered the balance and projection of the guitar. And so, the roundback designs found on Ovation guitars were born. As Charlie himself put it, "in helicopters, the engineers spend all their time trying to figure out how to remove vibration. To build a guitar, you spend your time trying to figure out how to put vibration in."

Mid-depth body balances sonic projection and playing comfort

Ovation guitars possess one of the more intriguing acoustic-electric guitar designs out there. This Celebrity Standard CS24 sports Ovation's mid-depth body style which helps enhance projection and tonal richness while being extremely comfortable to play, even for smaller players.

Onboard OP-4BT preamp

Ovation wrote the book on live acoustic guitar. They were the first company to introduce pickups and preamplifiers in the acoustic guitar, essentially inventing a new instrument. The Ovation Celebrity Standard CS24 is equipped with an OP-4BT preamp that has +/- 12dB control over the bass, midrange, and treble frequencies. In addition, the onboard tuner makes it easy to stay in tune. Ask any guitarist here at Sweetwater - the OP-4BT gives you the tonal control you need onstage.

Ovation Celebrity Standard CS24 Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Acoustic-electric guitar with innovative Lyrachord body
  • Mid-depth bowl body with cutaway enhances projection while still being comfortable to play
  • Onboard OP-4BT electronics with built-in tuner so you always sound your best
  • Bound rosewood fretboard plays fast and smooth
  • 3-band EQ helps you fine-tune your sound for any stage setting

Why Buy Your Guitar from Sweetwater?

See how Sweetwater goes to great lengths to give you the very best online guitar buying experience. From our online Guitar Gallery that allows you to see and select the exact instrument you want to our 55-point Inspection process and our in-house guitar techs, we take the guesswork out of buying your next guitar online.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Can't stop playing it

Looks beautiful, the fret inlays are the weak point in my opinion, the rest is great.
Sounds really good unplugged, but when I plugged it in into my audio interface, the sound was pretty weak (must be my setup or maybe I'll need a better amp sim). However, when I plugged it in into two of my cheap 10 W amps i was blown away.
The sustain is great and you can hear the difference the bowl shaped back does to the sound.
Action is great, but I feel the strings are too tight in the first three frets. Still, it's so easy to ply in this guitar. Barre chords? No problem at all. Strumming this guitar is so easy and natural. I can't say the same about finger picking, but I wouldn't expect that in an acoustic electric guitar for this price range. On the other hand, I'm having so much fun soloing. The neck is really smooth and although I would like to say it feels like an electric guitar neck, I'll wait to change the strings to be confident about that statement.
Overall, I love it. Even if I'm having issues getting the sound I want with Guitar Rig, the real amp sound was just beautiful, bright, and clean.
I liked the Sweetwater service and I'm looking forward to get more gear from them.

Ovation Quality.

Pretty Happy with this.
It is everything I expected in an Ovation.
Good action,Nice sound. Fun to play. Looks good.
A quality piece.
I gave it five stars because I can not find the least imperfection with it.

I switched out the strings to electric.
It looses that brassy tone and makes it even easier to play.
I play Old Rock and Old country.

I have to say also, it was packed meticulously.
You could have probably tossed the package out of the truck.
It was securely packed and padded.

This ain't no Martin, but it's still awesome!

Great guitar... I own several Martin's and of course this is nothing like that, but when it comes to mixing the sound up and going with something different for a different feel and tone... this is it. I mean that in a good way. Tony Dayton at Sweetwater is the best ever!

Ovation not what they used to be

I bought this thinking it would be a more up to date version of a Celebrity Standard I bought back in 1988. Wrong. The quality is not nearly as good as the 88 model, and corners were cut. For example, the fretboard on the 88 is smoother, tighter and easier to play. The 88 has a sound hole rosette, the new one just has a design around the soundhole. The tuning gears were better on the 88. The finish on the 88 was much nicer, a gray grain sort of color, not just gloss black paint. On the plus side, the electronics are better on the new model, and the slightly smaller bowl makes it a little easier to play. If you've got an older Ovation, take it to a luthier for a checkup and keep it. One other thing - if you're buying this for a beginner, go for it. I'd say it's a good beginner guitar.
