Compact Surround Monitor Controller
The streamlined Drawmer CMC7 supplies extraordinary ease of use, along with top-shelf sound, while eschewing controls that are duplicated in your DAW. This compact, 8-channel monitor controller covers the full gamut of surround formats, up to and including Dolby Atmos, and enables you to check your surround mix in stereo with independent control over your LFE/subwoofer. Safeguard your speakers against power up/down bangs, thanks to timed relay protection. Enjoy smooth volume changes, by virtue of a large, ultra-precise volume knob. Benefit from headphone monitoring, courtesy of an independent headphone amplifier with its own individual level control. The CMC7 packs a lot into a small package — it won’t take up much desk space, and it’s small enough to toss into a bag.
Packs a lot into a small package
The CMC7 packs a lot into its compact, low-profile housing. Its eight inputs and outputs are provided via dual balanced 25-pin D-sub connectors. Its eight independent channels cover 5.1, 7.1, quadraphonic, DTS, Dolby Digital EX, THX Surround EX, DTS-HD, Dolby Atmos, and more. A Stereo Mix switch bounces your surround mix down to 2.1 — essential for testing how your mix will sound in stereo. A Dim switch reduces your output by 20dB, while a Mute switch cuts your output completely. You also get a headphone output with a separate, high-quality amplifier and independent level control. The engineers here at Sweetwater are astonished by how much control this diminutive monitor control provides — and it sounds amazing!
Unerring monitoring accuracy
The CMC7 comes from the same lineage as Drawmer’s MC2.1, MC3.1 and MC7.1, and like its much-admired brethren, it’s versatile, intuitive, and easy-to-use. But above all else, it faithfully represents incoming signals — and what you've just recorded. Monitoring accuracy may seem like a no-brainer, but it's surprising how many recordings are made using compromised monitoring setups. And the results are usually not pretty. If you're in the dark about what you're "committing to tape," you're nowhere. Far better to invest in two or three sets of reference-grade monitor speakers (and perhaps one or two pairs of trustworthy headphones) and a serious monitor controller.
Why you need a monitor controller
You’ve spent weeks designing the ideal studio environment, plus a fortune on active speakers, dynamics processors, mics and preamps, and a whole roomful of other gear. Don't blow it now! A monitor controller is central to every recording setup and perhaps the most important element of your entire signal chain — providing the reference that lets you achieve optimal mic placements, EQ, and mix balances. This is one thing that's non-negotiable: that you can rely on the absolute accuracy of your monitoring. With the Drawmer CMC7, you can.
