Adjustable-pattern Array Column from JBL

JBL has expanded on its hugely successful Constant Beamwidth Technology with the CBT 1000 — the next leap forward in a pattern-controlled, passive loudspeaker perfect for a wide array of performance spaces. Auditoriums, houses of worship, lecture halls, classrooms — just about any conceivable space can be filled with the CBT 1000 and its highly adjustable vertical and horizontal pattern coverage. The CBT 1000 puts you in the driver's seat when it comes to customizing the direction of the sound it projects, allowing you to essentially "paint" the canvas of each room's unique shape with beautifully projected sound. Acoustic projection and design enthusiasts here at Sweetwater love the CBT 1000.

Acoustic design at your fingertips

Sound designers know that every room is different when it comes to acoustics. Some can be warm and inviting, others cold and abrasive. The CBT 1000 gives you more control for dealing with difficult spaces by offering asymmetrical coverage settings. This versatile array consists of six 6-1/2" low-frequency drivers and 24 high-frequency drivers. This combination provides exceptional front-to-back room coverage. But this is just the beginning. With the CBT 1000, the vertical coverage pattern is individually adjustable via four “Pattern Up” coverage angles and four “Pattern Down” coverage angles for a total of 16 different coverage combinations — no DSP processing required.

JBL CBT 1000-WH Features:

  • Constant Beamwidth Technology provides directivity through highest frequencies for reduced lobing
  • Individually adjustable vertical pattern coverage gives you control for acoustic shaping to fit room
  • Patent-pending Tapered Horizontal Waveguide lets you vary horizontal dispersion for better coverage of front and rear corners of room
  • Single-speaker room coverage at high SPL, with little over-splash and strong bass response down to below 40Hz
  • Frequency range 45Hz–20kHz perfect for music or speech
  • Switchable voicing adds a presence boost for speech applications
  • Swivel (pan)/tilt wall bracket included

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Wow! Amazing!

My Sweetwater Rep, Nick Church, recommended these with the extension cabs for my kids Elementary School Gym. Space is 110 x 110. I placed these about 16' off the floor 1/4 of the way in from each side. These are heavy so you will need safety chains for added security.
First, the sound is perfect from one end to the other and up the bleachers. It is even slightly louder in bleachers across the court. They are so clear and loud as you could want.
The best part? The entire faculty is very very happy.
I may try just this cab for their other gym and hold off on the extensions.
Thanks again, Nick, for the excellent recommendation.

Great design with few flaws

We bought two of those to replace three old jbl 15" speakers at our church. Our sanctuary seating area is 70'x70' and we have a large 30' long stage. We had a center cluster suspended at the edge of the stage 25' up, and it was angled down quite a bit. The problem we had was that we were loosing detail in speech and music about 50' away and we still got a ton of high frequency slap back echo from the back wall even though speakers were tiled down and aimed at the center of seeting area. And we had no need for array system since 1000w am was not even pushed over 40% of its capacity. So we started looking for other cheaper solutions and I came across JBL CBT1000 with very limited info and almost no reviews online. After some time we pulled the trigger and ordered two of them. Took about a day to try different processing settings and play with eq and here is what we discovered. With speakers angled about 15 degrees down we were able to get a consistent detailed sound from 25' all the way to the back. The sound guy said he can even hear reverb now without cranking it up half as much. So clarity and detail projection is superb from 25 to 70 feet away. And now the negatives: even though sound projection above 300hz is very consistent I can't say the same about the bottom end. Especially 200hz and down there's very limited control over them and as a result first 2-3 seating rows hear way too much bottom end and it sounds boomy and last couple rows don't hear any base. Maybe it would be more consistent if we used cbt1000e extensions, maybe not. We will be getting subs to compensate for very low range (below 80hz) and may have to add small front fill's on stage to ballance out boomy sound in first few rows. And the other major flaw is that the speaker has a high frequency (around 10khz) probjecting straight down so forget about having any performers straight underneath the speaker because it will cause feedback. Before purchasing this speaker download jbl cbt1000 calculator and look at the projection patterns of all frequencies from 15k to 50hz to see if this system is right for your needs. But even with these flaws I still like how they sound compared to three jbl pro 15" speakers.
