Passive Loudspeaker You Can Count On

Expect rich, clear sound and reliable performance from the Yamaha CBR12 passive loudspeaker. With a respectable 350-watts of RMS power handling, and 96dB SPL sensitivity, these loudspeakers boast impressive performance for their compact, portable nature. Live sound engineers at Sweetwater especially appreciate the CBR12's HF-protection circuit, which prevents speaker damage from excessive input. We also dig the smart form factor, which lets you use the CBR12 as either a mains speaker or on its side as a floor monitor. However you use it, expect stellar sound and performance you can trust with the Yamaha CBR12 passive loudspeaker.

Yamaha CBR12 12" Passive Loudspeaker at a Glance:
  • Ideal for small- to mid-size venues
  • Great sound at any volume level
  • Use as a main speaker or as a floor monitor
Ideal for small- to mid-size venues

With 350-watts of RMS power handling and lightweight components, the Yamaha CBR12 is perfect for small- to mid-size venues. Whether you're in a band, a gigging DJ, or run a sound-for-hire rig, the CBR12 will serve you well in a variety of applications.

Great sound at any volume level

The Yamaha CBR12 puts out full, punchy sound at any volume level thanks to two specific components. An extremely sensitive LF driver puts out powerful bass even when you're not driving the speaker hard. And when you do want to push your system to the max, an HF-protection circuit prevents excessive input signals from damaging the tweeter, so you get clear sound throughout the entire volume range.

Use as a main speaker or as a floor monitor

Yamaha designed the CBR12's cabinet with a 50-degree wedge angle. This allows you to place the speaker on its side and angle it up for use as a stage monitor. Especially if you're equipping your school or church with PA gear, you'll appreciate the dual-function versatility of the Yamaha CBR12.

Yamaha CBR12 12" Passive Loudspeaker Features:
  • Passive loudspeaker with lightweight plastic cabinet
  • Impressive 350W RMS power handling
  • 1/4" and speakON inputs for flexible connectivity
  • HF-protection circuit prevents tweeter damage due to excessive signal levels
  • Highly-sensitive LF driver puts out full bass even at lower volumes
You'll enjoy your sound system with the Yamaha CBR12 passive loudspeaker!

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Sounds great and light weight

Yamaha CBR12

Purchased to replace my 2 x 30+ year old Peavey SP5-Ti, 60+ pound beasts which have served me well for the last 20 years. These Yamaha's don't hit nearly as hard with pre-recorded music without a sub however I had no expectation they would. The high's are so much smoother and well defined on these Yamahas. Where the CBR really shines is using them for live sound. The horns really do provide the "hi-def" sound I was looking for and our vocals are now smooth as silk. They look great up on stands and lifting them up on those stands is a pleasure compared to struggling or enlisting help to lift the carpet covered, 5/8" birch plywood cabs loaded with 15" Peavey woofers from the last century. The weight of these plastic cabs is half of the Peaveys so my back is very pleased with this purchase as well. I have indestructible QSC amps to power the CBR's which provide clean power and I use an eq through an insert into my mixer if I need to make any adjustments for the room. Since I am obviously old school, switching to plastic speakers was not something I thought I would ever do..especially for mains, however I am also an advocate of technology. Yamaha seems to have done their homework in this regard as the DBR (powered) variants of this speaker are highly regarded. I am assuming they use the same drivers in the CBR's however have not found any information to confirm this. I have a single Yamaha 18" sub which when combined with the CBR's using another dedicated QSC amp and have only the bass guitar and kick drum mic'd up directly through an aux send on my mixer, sounds incredible. That said, I am really using the CBR's for vox and mid/high range instruments which sound amazing through these cabs while the lower frequencies have their own system which when combined, sounds great! Add to that the systems are barely breathing in terms of covering the sound spectrum with significant volume and clarity I have not heard from my mains before. Didn't think I would downsize from a 15" to a 12" either however the CBR 12's are perfect wattage match to the amp I am using to power them and 18" sub provides even more defined bottom end that 15's are not capable of anyway.
These are lesser (or at least less expensive) of the 2 polymer housed, passive Yamaha offerings and are considered entry level by some but for what I use them for, they are perfect. The plastic enclosures do look prone to easy scuffing so I ordered some aftermarket covers for to keep them safe when they are being transported and/or stored. Highly recommended however I would say they need to be combined with a separately powered sub, should be handled/transported with care to keep them from getting beaten up and should be covered when they are not being used. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend them to anyone who needs great sound for a small/mid size room and does not want to go the route of now standard self powered speakers. Now, what to do with the 60+ lb beasts from yesteryear!!!

Yamaha CBR12

Replaced my Wife's Peavey PR 15 speakers with these Yamaha CBR12 The Peaveys treated us well and nothing is wrong with them. My wife is the DJ and was looking for something a bit smaller and lighter. She uses the Yamaha EMX312 powered mixer and I've wanted to match it with Yamaha speakers for some time now. The Peaveys always sounded good, but we ran the Yamaha's last night and got comments on how much crisper and clear these sounded. We do Karaoke and the second someone started singing I could tell the difference as the vocals were extremely clear and crisp! Loud, Crisp, and Clear what more could one ask for. These preformed fantastic! Would highly recommend.

Nice Sound

I have not played it at a loud volume setting but so far, at low volume it sounds really good. Even the bass sound is not bad at low volume.
