Competition Grand SK-EX Rendering and Virtual Piano Artisan
The CA701 features Kawai’s new Competition Grand SK-EX Rendering engine with multichannel piano sampling, which allows for smoother transitions across the keyboard, more natural bass sounds, and a stronger duplex scale presence. The result is acoustic piano realism that is unprecedented in a digital piano. One of the major advantages of digital pianos, aside from the fact that they don’t require regular maintenance or tuning, is the flexibility they offer to customize settings. To that end, Kawai’s Virtual Piano Artisan function has 20 adjustable parameters that facilitate advanced tonal adjustments similar to the way Kawai’s Master Piano Artisans expertly voice acoustic Shigeru Kawai grand pianos.
Responsive Grand Feel III keybed for authentic feel and response
Kawai developed their Grand Feel III grade-weighted hammer-action keybed used in the CA701 to capture the distinctive feel of an acoustic grand piano. Grand Feel II action incorporates let-off simulation (also called escapement) that provides the subtle “notch” you feel when you press the keys of a grand piano very softly. A feature of grand pianos not found on uprights, let-off allows you to quickly repeat notes without fully releasing the key. Just as acoustic piano hammers are heavier in the bass and get lighter as you move up toward the treble end of the keyboard, GFIII action uses different hammer weights that are graded for each playing range. This fastidious attention to detail gives you maximum stability when playing fortissimo passages, while giving you the delicate pianissimo control you need.
