Slicing Schecter Tone, Now with Piezo

Ever wish you could fill electric and acoustic roles onstage without switching guitars or hauling extra gear? Then you need to take a peek at Schecter C-1 E/A Classic! This semi-hollow electric guitar offers a full range of bold Schecter features like high-output active pickups, a 24-fret fingerboard, and a sturdy carbon reinforced neck all with the added benefit of a modern piezo system for getting authentic acoustic tones at a moment’s notice. The C-1 Classic is truly an innovation to behold; it encapsulates everything guitarists love about Schecter and does it all with an approachable price here at Sweetwater.

Semi-hollow build with premium tonewoods

The C-1 puts a semi-hollow twist on the classic solidbody tonewood recipe of mahogany paired with a brighter top. The C-1's mahogany body delivers rich resonance with punch and handles drive and distortion like a champ. A gorgeous zebrawood top rounds out the mahogany’s depth, with a touch of brightness and bite for a unique take on the semi-hollow style. When it comes to playability, the C-1 is a cut above. The mahogany neck’s smooth “thin C” profile yields to riffs with unbeatable speed up and down a 24-fret ebony fingerboard, while an Ultra Access neck joint ensures unimpeded access down to the very last fret. Plus, this neck is reinforced with carbon fiber rods, which means it's built to last a lifetime (and less likely to warp or shift when traveling between climates).

Choose your tone: electric or acoustic

The C-1's three onboard pickup options make for a vast array of tonal possibilities. Two humbuckers (a Schecter USA Pasadena Plus in the bridge and a Pasadena standard in the neck) offer plenty of hot, active output that screams and howls when pushed but still cleans up nicely when dialed back. A little EQ and a volume tweak go a long way with these pickups. The third option, the bridge-mounted Fishman Powerbridge piezo, has become many pros’ choice for full-bodied acoustic sounds on an electric guitar. When you want to haul less gear in your rig and muster stage-worthy acoustic sounds from your axe, the Fishman Powerbridge delivers. Engage the piezo by itself or even blend it with your humbuckers for hybrid electric-acoustic tones using the C-1's 3-way output selector switch.

Schecter C-1 E/A Classic Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Versatile semi-hollowbody guitar with electric and acoustic pickup options
  • Resonant mahogany body delivers rich electric guitar tone with plenty of sustain
  • Zebrawood top with a subtle arch shape brightens tone
  • Slim mahogany neck with Schecter’s “thin C” profile and Ultra Access joint makes for fast fretting
  • Carbon fiber reinforcement on the neck means rock-solid stability that resists temperature and climate changes

  • 2 active Schecter USA Pasadena pickups serve up vintage tone but with extra gain and versatility

  • Push-pull tone knob for electric pickups gives access to single-coil style tones
  • Premium hardware like Schecter Locking Tuners, a TonePros T1z Tailpiece, and a Graph Tech TUSQ nut

Versatility and Convincing Acoustic Tone

The axe is awesome, no doubt. Lightweight, has tons of tonal options, modern features, carbon-reinforced neck, and locking tuners. You can't go wrong with any of that. It takes me from 2 guitars for gigging down to 1 and that's a win. The piezo really shines with some acoustic tone shaping signal-chain stuff like a modeling pedal and acoustic simulator in the modeling amp.

I'm used to getting screwed by a brick-and-mortar shop that rhymes with "muitar menter".

The customer service from Sweetwater is second to none. Bryan constantly communicated with me about the status of my order, and I never had any questions about what was going on because they were answered well ahead of time. I'm glad I changed shops for big-box items.

Update: bad soldering

Guitar is great, except for the electronics wiring. Soldered poorly enough that the neck pickup hot wire to the selector switch disconnected itself. Still not sure if it was a break in the wire or a cold-shoulder, but I did bother support about it and they were kind enough to send deoxit to see if that would fix it.

Not a ding on Sweetwater by any means, but be sure you check the solder joints if you grab one.
