Sony's HD Condenser Mic

The C-100's unique design is visible at first glance. Its unique dual-diaphragm design allows it capture not only the critical 20Hz-20kHz audible spectrum but the additional smaller back-electret diaphragm extends the frequency response by crossing over at 25kHz and covering the top ultrasonic octave from 25-50kHz. This extended frequency response makes it ideal for capturing vocals like few other mics can.

Excellent vocal presence

The C-100's 2-way diaphragm structure delivers broad high-frequency range and resonant mid-low range for excellent presence when recording both male and female vocalists. Recorded with the C-100, vocals shimmer with air and sit in the track with authority.

Broad frequency response

Sony engineered the C-100 with a broad frequency response (20Hz–50kHz) to provide the superior sound reproduction quality required for high-resolution audio (HD) applications. Sweetwater tip: don't start an HD project without the C-100! And with two of them, you can explore hi-res stereo miking techniques.

Three polar patterns

The C-100's three polar patterns — cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8 — give you immense flexibility when it comes to exploring the sonic possibilities offered by different recording techniques. And owning a pair of them vastly increases the versatility of this outstanding microphone, opening up highly effective stereo recording techniques such as spaced pair (A/B), XY (including Blumlein), ORTF array, and mid-side (M-S).

Noise Elimination construction

For the C-100, Sony ported their 2-part metallic body structure originally developed for the acclaimed C-800G microphone. Noise-elimination construction prevents acoustic vibration. While the C-100's highpass filter attenuates structure-born low-frequency noise, noise-elimination construction is a preventative measure that eliminates it closer to the source.

Highpass filter and pad

The C-100's switchable highpass filter helps eliminate unwanted low frequencies such as rumble that can ruin a perfect take. And for singers with a propensity for "hugging the mic," proximity effect is much less of a concern with the low-cut filter switched in. The C-100 also includes a 10dB pad switch for added headroom and minimized distortion due to transient peaks.

An assault on the state of the art

Sony has brought its formidable research and development prowess to bear in the C-100. It's a stunning achievement, with cutting-edge technology and all the features you would expect in a high-end studio condenser microphone. It all adds up to another Sony assault on the state of the art. You owe it to yourself to check it out.

Sony C-100 High-res Condenser Microphone Features:

  • Side-address form factor is ideal for vocals
  • Excellent sound quality: 2-way diaphragm structure delivers broad high-frequency range and resonant mid-low range for excellent vocal presence

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

A-mazing!

If you can afford this microphone, get it. OMG. Just perfect. If you're better than the average person singing, if you own a Martin D-28, or if you have 100k + followers on YouTube, this mic is perfect for you.
If you're reading this to decide if you should get one - get it.
You won't regret it.

Aaaaaaaaamazing!

Just wow! You have to hear it to believe it. Blows my Nuemann and Shure SM7B out the water. Don't outdid themselves with this one.

Limitless

Bought the Sony C100 and Neumann TLM 103 to shoot out... The 103 got returned. This mic sounds very natural and articulate. What sold me the most was how well it handled processing and effects. I do a lot of Rap and EDM recording, the 103 fell apart in this area but the C100 retained its foundation. To me, the 103 is a mic for someone who just wants to record and not really do much with the vocal post. The C100 sounds amazing raw but also always you to shape the vocal in any form you want. I've been blessed with the opportunity to record on the 800G before in LA and the C100 is very close with just some slight eq'n to match, but without the 10k price tag that is unrealistic for smaller studios. The mic sounded good on the UAD preamp emulations, but I found running it through my EL-9 Mike-E preamp paired the best. Big thanks to my sales rep Tom Koch.

Like every pro product from Sony

Like C800G this one also clear on sibilant to words "S" , "Z" ......
Frequency response is very clear , than any more expensive microphones , the EQ curve may be not as great like when You moving compared Sanken CU 51 , but sonic characteristics better than any expensive EU made mics . You get more what You pay , if You record it and listen with the Audiophile speakers or headphones , You will feel big difference between this and between EU made bassier and colored mics .
