Grab This Bass Synth by the Horns!

Since the 1970s, the iconic sounds of a singular bass synth have maintained a unique stranglehold on the public musical imagination. Now, thanks to the meticulous engineering of Behringer’s sound designers, TORO charges forth with the vaunted voltages of luscious lows and the distinctive character of its predecessor while adding a few contemporary accommodations. Its elegant design serves up heaps of uncompromising lows without a complicated interface. Precision-crafted circuitry ensures everything from the distinctive lowpass ladder filter to the furthest reaches of its 5-octave range is easily controlled, delighting Sweetwater’s synthesists with its accommodating housing and straightforward design. If you’re clamoring for that classic bass synth sound, then you no longer need to worry about seeing red!

Classic heart, modern magic

A meticulously designed, all-analog signal path forms the heart of TORO, providing faithful, era-accurate sonics with the VCA, VCF, and VCO designs. Whether you’re after arena-rocking basses, harmonized intervals, or searing leads, TORO’s dual-VCO architecture spans a 5-octave range, unwavering in its aural integrity. With such a focus on tone crafting, there are only four presets: Toro, Tuba, Bass, and Variable, each with its own buttons for quick selection. Otherwise, 23 control points are available to hone your sound. Moreover, with the Poly Chain function, you can link up to 16 TORO units together: up to 32 voices of polyphony in a chorus of bass synths.

Shaping with mid-century finesse

TORO doesn’t just look the part of its aspirational era. The analog circuitry lets you engage the iconic lowpass ladder filter that has eluded synthesists for decades, resulting in smooth, full, rich tones with cutoff and emphasis controls for fine-tuning. Glide can be adjusted with its own slider or toggled entirely from a dedicated button, alongside octave and decay controls. If you’ve noticed the CV inputs for pitch and filter values, as well as the gate input, then know that Eurorack compatibility doesn’t stop there. The flexible construction means the synth can be removed from its housing entirely, mounted into any studio or performance rig, and instantly accessible from almost any controller via 5-pin MIDI input.

Behringer TORO Features:

  • Painstakingly modeled circuitry means era-accurate, all-analog signal pathways for rich, lush bass synth sonics
  • 5-octave range provides plenty of tonal flexibility without compromising its defining character
  • Dual-VCO architecture allows for immense, detuned sounds, or precise intervals, making for a range of timbral and tonal possibilities
  • VCOs can be freely mixed to elicit complex tonal balances and constructions
  • Straightforward interface totals just 23 control points and iconic mid-century design cues for a historical style that sounds as good as it looks
  • Lowpass ladder filter was precision engineered to produce the vaunted, vintage sounds of its spiritual predecessor
  • Eurorack compatibility includes gate and CV inputs for pitch and filter, making for colorful modulation options
  • 4 presets — Variable, Toro, Tuba, and Bass — are given individual buttons for quick access and streamlined tone-crafting
  • Modern accommodations include 5-pin MIDI input for flexible control options and voice priority assignment
  • Versatile housing design lets you take TORO straight into Eurorack with ease
  • Poly Chain functionality means up to 16 units of simultaneous TORO operation, upwards of 32 voices of polyphony
  • Adjustable Glide parameter means versatile voicing beyond tone and timbre

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Dial in all those fantastic classic trance tones

I'm no synth expert but I've bought and still own quite a few consoles in this size and price range. It is very easy to dial in great bass, leads, and basic root/5th (etc) one key 2pitch chords that are very reminiscent of classic trance/EDM etc. very happy with sound. I used to have the Deepmind 12 console and it does sound great but I find that this one is much easier to manage and dial in the sounds I really want, and it's so much lighter - fits perfectly on this roughly 5"x15" mic stand tray available on eBay. The setup on this is so easy to use. Very buttery bass. I LOVE the lead sounds as well. I've seen this described as having limitations on range but frankly anything above the range of this I never use anyway. My Minibrute goes an extra 2 octaves depending on settings but it's just not important even when I'm doing lead sounds. The only thing this synth lacks imo (assuming you have a good controller that has an arpeggiator and sequencer etc) is it would be great to have polyphony, however up to 16 of these things can be polychained as well if you wanted. For my playing ability (I'm mainly a guitar player), this toro does everything I realistically need it to. Very stomp box like with controls. No menu diving. Light weight and can easily fit and hold on a mic stand tray without worry of it falling off and breaking etc. Oh yeah, and the price is low.

Best Mono Synth for the money

If you love how the Juno, jupiter layouts then you will love the Toro. Easy to Dial in killer Sounds. I Own a Minitaur as well and i like the ease of use of the Toro alot more. The Taurus you need a laptop to unlock key features. The Toro right out the box kicks ass. I have only used a midi keyboard so far. I want to try foot switches with this bad boy and get my Tom Sawyer on!

Not 100% recreation but awesome on its own

Beside the best frequency not being an hertz offset but just a retune, this bass machine is perfect to rock your subs

Love the product, still hate the company

This thing is a 1 for 1 copy of the Moog taurus 1. I never had the original but from what I can tell in comparisons, it's absolutely spot on. It's built very well which is surprising coming from Behringer. I use it with their FCB1010 footswitch to trigger the notes.

Hate behringer, but this is something any prog bassist/guitarist cannot ignore. The sounds do not lie.

Toro module

I have had this unit for a bit over a month now and all I can say is… I Love it !
Back in the day I owned an original first gen Taurus
Unless I have lost my memory… this unit is pretty much dead on for sound, I am not thrilled that it doesn't default to the Taurus mode on start up, but I can live with it.
It seemed to take forever for these to become available… one thing I can add is that Sweetwater made this purchase Perfect! In all my years I have never found a company that showed so much pride and respect for both sales and customers…
I would and probably will make Sweetwater one of my main sources from now on.
