Vintage Bass Octave Mini

With the M280 Vintage Bass Octave Mini pedal, MXR updated the warm analog vibe of a classic sub-bass circuit with the superior tracking, higher headroom, and enhanced versatility today's bassists demand. The Vintage Bass Octave serves up a wide range of smooth, musical sounds — from tone-fattening growl to chest-thumping dub bass tones — all in the pedalboard-friendly MXR mini form factor. The Vintage Bass Octave's voice is throaty and resonant, and it delivers its payload in two flavors — one octave down and two octaves down. You can dial in each separately with the Oct 1 and Oct 2 volume controls.

Dial in the perfect tone

With judicious use of the Dry volume dial, you can forge the perfect blend for any musical setting. To increase definition and clarity, press the Mid switch to bump up your clean signal’s midrange by 6dB at 800Hz. For an even greater boost up to +13dB, simply remove the bottom plate and tweak the Vintage Bass Octave's internal trimpot. And Sweetwater bass players and engineers really appreciate the MXR's Constant Headroom Technology, a custom circuit that produces 18 volts from a 9-volt power source for mass quantities of clean headroom. All considered, the MXR M280 Vintage Bass Octave Mini pedal packs a lot of sound, features, and tech into a tiny, tour-tough chassis. We love it, and so will you!

Great tracking, transparent pedal.

I chose this over the bigger model due to the smaller footprint and the -2 Oct feature. The rumors are true. It sounds just as good as that vintage brown octave pedal except it tracks better.

i use a strat, so i like using a clean boost before it to help track the notes better

Nothing Subpar About This Mini Sub-Octave Pedal

The Jim Dunlop MXR Bass Innovations line of effects are top notch in components and build quality. Their all analog circuitry delivers nothing but the utmost in sound quality - a definite factor in choosing this pedal. The M280 Vintage Bass Octave mini pedal has provisions for dialing in the the desired amount of dry signal as well as each of the two sub-octave signals, allowing for an incredible range of sounds to be produced. I chose the M280 because its' full-size brethren, the M288, doesn't produce the same one and two sub-octave signals; rather, two separately voiced one-octave down signals. No batteries here...powered exclusively by an included, external adapter. For that gotta-have rumble, roll with the MXR M280.

Almost an OC-2 clone

I have this pedal and an original OC-2 . So just using OCT1 no dry or OCT2 it sounds very much like the sought after OC-2 Except the Vintage Bass Octave does track much lower much better. When you add in clean it still sounds great and the OCT2 Can add a low of deep sub lows if that is your thing. The mids Button can really change the sound of this thing and there is a switch inside for Frequency selecting where the mids switch boosts. Overall A very effective pedal and very flexible.
