Friedman's Finest

Dave Friedman claims the BE-50 Deluxe 3-channel tube amplifier is the best amp he's ever made. By combining the clean channel of his acclaimed Buxom Betty amplifier with a pair of BE (Gain 1) & HBE (Gain 2) -style dirty channels, the BE-50 Deluxe covers a truly expansive sonic range. A 3-way Gain Structure switch, plus switches for Sat (saturation), Voice (3-way), and Fat on the two dirty channels allow you to dial in your ideal flavor of overdrive and distortion. And a Bright switch on the Clean channel allows you add further spank to it. In addition, master controls for Thump, Response, and Presence offer fine-tune control over the amp’s playing feel in a way that few amplifiers provide. Complete with Dave’s critically acclaimed, totally transparent, Series FX Loop (with a Return Level control) and half-power switch (pentode/triode), the Friedman BE-50 Deluxe is an incredibly tonally versatile 50-watt tube amplifier that is perfect for a plethora of styles including all forms of rock and metal.

Like a heavily modded BE-100

In addition to its glorious Clean channel, the BE-50 Deluxe boasts two dirty channels — one with the much-desired BE gain structure and the other with the added drive that is HBE. While the BE and HBE channels share the same 3-band EQ section, they each have independent controls for Gain and Master. As a result, the range of overdriven tonal possibilities the BE-50 Deluxe has to offer is truly formidable. A 3-way Voice switch and 3-way Gain Structure switch further add to the amp’s already vast array of sonic offerings. And if that weren't enough, a Fat switch is present to beef up the low end (perfect for single-coil pickups), while the Sat switch on the rear panel adds even more gain, compression, and saturation.

Fine-tune the feel to your preference

Guitarists at Sweetwater know that how an amp feels is just as important as how it sounds. And whether you're after a fast, immediate feel; a soft and spongy response; extra low-end girth; or anything in between, the Friedman BE-50 Deluxe is ready to accommodate. Thanks to its Master controls for Thump (low-end resonance/depth), Response (variable negative-feedback: low settings are dark and smooth; higher ones are bright and punchy), and Presence (adjust the upper mids and highs in the power amp), you can create your own ideal combination of playing feel and sonic impact.

Switchable High/Low power amp modes

You can halve the BE-50 Deluxe's output from 50-watts to 25-watts with the High/Low Power switch on its back panel. This is done by switching the pair of the EL34s Power Tubes from Pentode (Full) to Triode (Low) operation. In addition to changing both output and headroom, Pentode and Triode modes each have their own unique tonal characteristics. EL34s in Pentode are musically aggressive and more “in your face,” while Triode mode is smoother and warmer.

Handwired Precision “Under the Hood”

Sometimes a picture can speak thousands of words, and this is certainly true of the painstakingly crafted, handwired beauty that lurks within the chassis of every single BE-50 head.

3 fine tuned amps in one head

HBE(hairy Brown Eye) has forever lasting roar and crazy dynamaic feel, i have it to be Gary Moore type of lead tone.
Be (brown Eye) fantastic to the classic rock tones, like free`s allright now or modern times like Lenny Kravitz Again.
Betty(clean channel) crazy full sounding, a bit easy to be bright if you do alot of strumming like an CCR song, but you can tweak it alot and wil be fantastic Pedal platform if you like the fine tuned Fender Twin thing.

fx loop is the best, even have a great lvl control on it, so 4 cable is a dream even better with a switcher that can switch channels too. i use the gigrig g3 for this. and if you want to ajust the genral volume you can use that lvl control knob.

Volume: it it sound great at any volume, home with grand ma or in the band mix, cool thing is that if you put all the channels at "6" it sounds like the same volume at every channel (not alot of amps do this)

just follow the book for a good starting point and start tweaking your sound!

cab: do not cheep out on the cab if you want to play it with band, the ported cabs from friedman wil keep it from farting out or getting muddy. a marshall 1936 lead works okay :)

The culmination of Dave Friedman’s work

I'm not gonna write a long winded review for this amp, because Dave's work speaks for itself. This is the third Friedman amplifier I have owned at it is nothing short of spectacular. The Buxon Betty clean is crisp and chimey with unmatchable clarity. The BE and HBE modes are ungodly. Somehow Dave manages to design his amps where even the dirty channels are sharp harmonically rich and squeaky clean with all the notes being articulated. I set everything to noon and hardly even moved from there; that's how I know an amp is for real. This head does it all. Friedman is one of the best, if not the best, in the business. Thanks for the excellent service as well, Sweetwater. You guys always come through; I'm a customer for life. -Gary

Somehow as good as the hype

In short this is a very complete amp and almost perfectly designed. The clean channel sounds fantastic, no issues with the loop, no need to crank the amp to 10 to sound good. Lots of good sound options and controls to work with, but despite that very easy to dial a good sound in. It's like this was designed for me.

Outstanding, versatile, understandable interface! AWESOME Amp!

Full disclosure, I've owned almost all the mainstream amplifiers made, including most all of the Mesa Boogie Amps, Friedman JJ Jr., Kemper Power Rack, BluGuitar, Positive Grid, Victory, Marshall etc. While all of these amps are good, (some very good) I really am impressed with the sounds of the Friedman BE50 Deluxe! I play in a Top 40 and Latin cover band and the BE50 (forgive the Dad joke) "covers" it all. It really wasn't a consideration but as I looked in to it more and more, felt it could work for me. The clean channel is outstanding. It can be setup to play a jazz or dinner set with no problem, or a country / rock etc. clean. The BE channel can go from blues to classic rock while the HBE starts at the latter and can deliver a nearly metal sound without too much trouble. What I really like about the BE50 is you can set the overall gain for the amp (High, Medium, Low) Right now I'm set to low gain for the styles I play. The other characteristic I noticed was on many other amps I've owned, there would come a point where I would have too much gain and the sound or feel would become "blatty", inarticulate, less defined etc. Friedman excels at giving me clear notes at almost all settings. I'm still learning this amp but so far so good. I really bought it for Nightclubs, outdoor and festivals. I am finding that I am using it even at Country Club and HOA events. I have it switched to the low power setting and mic'd through our PA. The only other amp I think I would have (or maybe should have) considered was the BE100 deluxe, due to it's master global volume for all channels. I'm very impressed with Friedman amps and look forward to a longterm relationship with the BE50 (and Sweetwater!!)

The Friedman I Didn't Know I Needed

Absolutely blown away. I've had almost every Friedman available and I have to say this one does it all, and does it all the best. The response control is something I didn't know I needed. It can tighten the amp right up, or add the squish in the low end I tend to look for with the modded Marshall sound. I always assumed it was just a 50 watt BE-100, not the case at all. It is its own stand alone amp jam packed with useful adjustments and tone to die for! Wish I would've grabbed one sooner! Don't hesitate, leave the wife, sell the kidney, and grab this beauty!
