A Clean Mouthpiece Is a Happy Mouthpiece
All brass players need to clean and maintain their mouthpieces to ensure the long-term health of their horns. Practicing for long hours will leave quite a bit of gunk in the shank of your mouthpiece. That unsanitary grime can make its way down the leadpipe of your favorite horn and begin to corrode the inside if left unchecked. However, you can prevent this from ever happening! For best results, Sweetwater recommends cleaning your mouthpiece once a week with a Bach 815 Brass Instrument Mouthpiece Brush and warm, soapy water. Do this every week, and you’ll be well on your way to keeping your instrument — and mouthpiece — in top playing condition.
