Lauten Audio Atlantis FC-387 FET Condenser Microphone at a Glance:
  • One microphone, three distinct voices
  • A polar pattern to fit any environment
  • Gain options for a wide range of sources
One microphone, three distinct voices

The Lauten Audio Atlantis FC-387 FET condenser microphone gives you a degree of control over your sound beyond the reach of most typical mics. That's largely because of its 3-way voicing switch, which lets you subtly but effectively contour its basic character. Set to its Gentle postion, the Atlantis FC-387 levels out bright peaks, taking the bite out of sibilant esses. The Neutral setting maintains even transparency without noticeably altering your sound, whereas the Forward voicing lets you add life to dull sources, without reaching for your EQ.

A polar pattern to fit any environment

Just as important as its various voicings, the Atlantis FC-387 gives you three polar patterns to choose from, allowing you to record in any environment. The omnidirectional setting is open and responsive, allowing you to capture both the crispness of your source and the resonance of your recording environment. The Atlantis FC-387's cardioid mode, on the other hand, gives you excellent off-axis noise rejection and naturally tames some of the low end. Finally, Lauten Audio gave the Atlantis FC-387 a figure-8 setting, which provides you with amazing side-noise rejection.

Gain options for a wide range of sources

Once you start using the Atlantis FC-387, you're going to want to stick it on everything. Luckily, Lauten Audio gave it a 3-way gain switch, so it can accommodate any instrument. For general use, the 0dB setting gives you the purest, most transparent sound. For a bit more presence (and to hit your mic preamp a bit harder), you can kick the Atlantis FC-387's output up by +10dB. If, on the other hand, you're recording a blaring guitar cab or using a pair of Atlantis FC-387 mics as overheads, you'll probably find its -10dB setting useful.

Lauten Audio Atlantis FC-387 FET Condenser Microphone Features:
  • Extremely versatile FET condenser microphone that's great for anything from vocals to didgeridoos
  • Large-diaphragm, solid-state FET design provide a naturally smooth sound
  • Individually hand-tuned capsule and premium high-resolution electronics provide unrivaled sound quality
  • Switchable omni, figure-8, and cardioid polar patterns let you adapt to any environment
  • 3 voicing options let you change the contour of your sound, mellowing out highs or bringing them forward
  • 3 gain settings let you boost weaker signals and pad louder sources such as drums and guitar amplifiers
  • Requires +48V phantom power
The Lauten Audio Atlantis FC-387 FET condenser microphone is an amazing all-purpose mic!

Lauten Audio Atlantis FC-387

This microphone is probably one of the best mics out on the market. It's a little pricey, but if you're willing to spend the money I would highly recommend following through with getting it! The Atlantis comes with 3 different voicing switches, in my opinion, this is the game changer for me because it's like you have 3 microphones in one ranging from the forward setting, neutral setting, and gentle setting—all of these sound amazing and allows for a versatile approach in whatever music you might be making.

Customer service was amazing and very helpful, they even gave me a call and let me know that my package was on the way! I received it without any damage and they blessed me with some Sweetwater candy

Incredible

I've owned at least 20-30 mics in the sub-$ price range and finally decided to get something nicer. After a lot of deliberation I settled on the Atlantis mainly because of the different voicings. But to be honest, I leave this thing in the forward setting 99% of the time. If I'm recording acoustic guitar, that would be one scenario where I'd use one of the other settings. But it truly brings a vocal to the front of a mix in a way I'd never experienced. And it only needs a little bit of EQ and the vocal is basically done. It's amazing.

WORTH THE INVESTMENT

I am so happy I was able to invest in this microphone because since I've done so, the quality of my recordings have increased tremendously! I love the 3 different microphone settings by the way! I can try to describe this microphone to you but all I can say is that it is 100% worth your investment no matter the genre or style of music you do!

Honestly blew me away.

I own a u87ai, slate VMS, Avantone cv12, and I handful of other microphones. Up until now the u87 was my go to vocal mic. I had a recording session this week and had the chance to compare the u87 side by side with the Atlantis and let me just say… it blew my mind. I am ver familiar with the 87 and know how to mix it usually pretty fast to sit in the mix how I want. With the Atlantis in forward position, this mic sounds MIXED! And not in an overly processed way but a really smooth and well rounded sound with just the right amount of sizzle. I'm so impressed. This mic has really got me excited for future projects! I've never left a review but this mic at this price point demands a review!

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Nick Church

Everyone will tell you there is no such thing as "the perfect microphone," and I suppose, by the strict definition of the word, they would be right. But in my opinion the Lauten Audio Atlantis large-diaphragm, multi-pattern condenser mic comes very, very close indeed. They started off by making a capsule that sounded excellent on its own, and then included three switch-selectable "voices" that change the mic's fundamental character, added 3 polar patterns and 3 gain or pad settings, which results in about 27 different mics for just under $1,500, and if that doesn't justify the tag "perfect" then I'm not sure what does. This one mic will allow you to soften an edgy female vocal, liven up a muffled male voice, capture drums as an overhead and/or room mic, and work really well for all kinds of other instruments, and everything it records will be able to sit well in a mix without having to EQ it to death. If you are thinking about adding just one "perfect" mic to your studio, then make it the Lauten Atlantis!

Todd Kitchen

I've spent the last decade recording everything from a basement podcast to a large orchestra, but I've never come across a mic with the features and versatility of the Lauten Audio Atlantis. The "neutral" setting revealed stunning levels of detail in my vocal recordings, while "gentle" lended a smooth, vintage warmth. The “forward” setting, however, blew me away with its presence and focus; combine it with a subdued, nuanced vocal for a truly magical result.
