An Awesome Combination of Analog Synth and Sequencer

The Analog Four MKII synth module and sequencer, the second generation of Elektron's 4-voice analog synth, is better than ever. Elektron has redesigned the analog circuitry to deliver deeper, more defined bass than the original, and the analog overdrive section offers even more bite and growl. The cast aluminum enclosure and ultra-rugged backlit buttons (rated for 50 million presses) make this a road-ready performance tool. The vivid OLED screen offers improved visual feedback. Plus, precision hi-res encoders and the addition of quick performance controls make for user-friendly hands-on experience. If you've been waiting for the classic combination of a 4-voice analog synth and sequencer, wait no longer.

Elektron Analog Four MKII combines the best of analog and digital

Synth enthusiasts at Sweetwater love analog circuitry for its warm, punchy sound, but we also know that digital control of certain features provides unmatched precision — and the Elektron Analog Four MKII is a perfect example of engineering that takes full advantage of this. In the Analog Four MKII, both oscillators of each voice are analog, including their elaborate waveshaping. Their pitches, however, are controlled digitally — along with the noise generator.

Modulate your sound with filters, envelopes, LFOs, FX, and more

The two filters of each voice (and the overdrive circuit between them) are fully analog — as are the amplifiers. The envelopes and LFOs — they're digital; a design that allows them to venture well into the audible range without nasty artifacts. The signal path from the oscillators to the audio outputs — that's totally analog, as well as the signal path from the external inputs to the audio outputs. The digital send effects run parallel to the main audio path; their wet signals are mixed with the dry analog signal before everything reaches the main output stage.

Elektron Analog Four MKII — Synth Voice Features:

  • Fully analog signal path for punchy, organic sound
  • 2 analog oscillators; 2 sub-oscillators (variable waveshape on all oscillators)
  • Oscillator AM and Sync modes
  • 1 x 4-pole analog lowpass ladder filter; one 2-pole analog multimode filter
  • 1 analog overdrive circuit; 1 noise oscillator
  • 2 assignable LFOs; 1 dedicated vibrato LFO; 2 dedicated waveshape LFOs
  • 1 amp envelope; 2 assignable envelopes; 2 dedicated LFO fade envelopes
  • 1 dedicated noise fade envelope; 1 dedicated vibrato envelope; 1 dedicated autobend envelope

6-track sequencer lets you control your entire studio efficiently

The Elektron Analog Four MKII's sequencer sports six tracks, the first four of which are synth tracks (with each track controlling a synth voice). Track 5 is your FX track, controlling movements of chorus, delay, and reverb parameters. Finally, you use the CV track to control the signals sent from the Analog Four MKII's two CV/Gate outputs. Naturally, the parameters of all track types can be parameter-locked. The Elektron sequencer lets you control your analog studio in the most efficient way possible.

Dedicated CV track and four CV/Gate outputs let you control all your analog gear

You can sequence your analog gear with CV inputs using the Analog Four MKII's dedicated CV track. The four CV/Gate outputs pass control voltages for controlling any parameter or pitch (V/oct andHz/V), Trig and Gate pulses for trigging envelopes (V-trig and S-trig), and repetitive clock pulses for syncing analog sequencers, LFOs, drum machines, and more. You can use the Analog Four MKII's external inputs to filter external signals. You can even link the filters to form a parameter-lockable filter bank with up to eight filters (four ladder and four multimode filters).

Robust connectivity gives you flexibility in rigging up your studio

Elektron's Analog Four MKII gives you robust connectivity so you can easily integrate it into your modern studio. The Analog Four MKII's headphone output, two main outs, two external inputs, two dual CV/Gate outputs, USB port, and MIDI in/out/thru ports (with DIN sync out) let the Analog Four MKII play nice with everything from legacy modular synths to Macs and PCs.

Full integration with your DAW via Elektron Overbridge

Producers at Sweetwater love Elektron’s Overbridge technology. Overbridge lets you integrate your Analog Four MKII synth and sequencer right into your DAW, routing audio to and from your hardware via a single USB cable — all internal voices, external inputs, and the main mix bus are sent to your DAW as individual tracks. Better yet, you get a whole graphic user interface to control every major aspect of Analog Four MKII, essentially turning it into a plug-in — your Analog Four MKII settings and projects will be recalled whenever you open your DAW project. Standalone operation is supported too, allowing you to control your Analog Four MKII via Overbridge even without your DAW.

Elektron Analog Four MKII — Sequencer Features:

  • 4 synth tracks; 1 FX track; 1 CV/Gate track
  • 128 patterns; up to 64 step patterns
  • 128 sounds; 128 kits; 16 songs
  • 6 arpeggiators; individual track lengths; swing, slide, and accent functions; track transpose
  • Micro timing; parameter locks; live-friendly Performance mode
  • Sound-per-step change; Instant Pattern, Kit, and Sound reload
  • Full real-time control; full MIDI support

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Analog Four, more than I bargained for!

I've have my A4 for almost a year now and it seems to find its way on to most of my productions. I expected a fantastic analog synth but I definitely got more than ever expected. If you're looking for a portable fantastic analog synth look no further! The Analog four is everything you need and more!

Superb Groovebox! Awesome Synth!

I got this synth because it was described as a modular system in a box but it is actually so much more than that. Every individual pattern you create can have different sounds or kit every note can have different parameters it has macro assigns, song mode, nice built in effects(chorus, delay and reverb) you can record automations on top of each other, you can make melodies, beats and harmonies but polyphony is achieved by sacrificing other voices for a max of 4 voice polyphony but there are ways to work around it like using only 3 voices of polyphony and the remaining one for rythm etc,or you can make a chord sound with osc modulation only using one voice. The sound design is not too complicated but you have a lot of possibilities and options. This synth is great at everything it is supposed to do.

This is a lot of synth for the buck. It's pricey but you get what you pay for.

I've been on the hunt for a synth workstation that allowed multiple voices/tracks all in one box. I was really enamored by the Moog One's sequencer and modulation capabilities but turned off by the sound of the Moog One and its unreasonable price tag. In looking up specs and watching endless YouTube videos, the Analog Four became a forerunner because it answered the primary criteria that I've been trying to satisfy = synth workstation that allows me to sequence/modulate multiple voices/tracks. The Analog Four does this in spades. You are getting four independent mono synthesizers - each with 2 oscilators, 2 filters, LFO's, envelopes, etc. But what really sets this instrument apart is the sequencer. Each step can have its own collection of parameters. So for example, you can use just one of the voices/tracks as a mono drum machine. Kick, snare, HH, tom, FM hit, etc - all in one track (in its own dedicated step). And you still have 3 mono synths/voices/tracks to work with! Yes, it has a learning curve because the Elektron architecture is somewhat counterintuitive and different from other developers, but the learning curve pays off. You can use this to come up with ideas instantly, do some pretty in depth sound design/synthesis, write an entire song, or use this as a live performance instrument. The sound itself is somewhere in the Sequential/Roland/Yamaha territory - very chimey, with lots of character, and pleasing harmonics - and not as thick and weighty as a vintage Moog monosynth on the low end. Don't get me wrong, you can still get loud thumpy bass and kick drums from this. This is an incredibly satisfying instrument. It's closest competitor is probably the Sequential Pro 3 in terms of architecture but this blows the Pro-3 out of the water. The Pro-3 feels like you are buying a 3 voice mono synth and you can sequence paraphonically and fight to get 3 voices to be independent. The Analog Four is truly like getting four completely independent 2 oscillator/2 filter mono synthesizers and an incredibly sequencer and modulation engine. One more bit of context - I always try my hardest to replicate what hardware can do in my DAWs with plugins. I can replicate most of what's out there in my DAW in terms of sound and modulation capabilities. I honestly cannot replicate what the Analog Four does in terms of sequencer/modulation/parameter lock engine. Yes, you can kind of do it in most DAWs, but you'll be spending a lot of time shuffling menus between plug ins, environments, and your DAW. On the Analog Four, its as simple as holding down the step - editing the parameters - and that's it. The sounds are fantastic. The effects sound wonderful. Build quality and feel is top notch. One of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

I should also mention that I previously had the MK1. The interface and software is pretty much the same, but the new MK2 screen, buttons, dedicated outputs, and improved layout is truly an upgrade worth the price difference. This has become my new desert island instrument because no other synthesizer gives you this kind of power in such a package.
Music background: Very famous in my apartment
