A Hybrid Jazzmaster for the Masses

From the couch to the stage to the studio, Fender’s Acoustasonic Player Jazzmaster is a reasonably priced way to break into the hybrid world of the Acoustasonic series! While it may look just like everyone’s favorite surf and shoegaze 6-string, the Acoustasonic Player Jazzmaster’s solid spruce top and mahogany back/sides deliver an impressive unplugged voice that beautifully translates through an amp or PA via the under-saddle piezo pickup. Looking for something a little more aggressive? Simply switch to the Acoustasonic Shawbucker pickup to capture everything from high-gain riffage to soulful strumming. What’s more, a blend knob allows you to mix between these two ends of the tonal spectrum to get the best of both the acoustic and electric world! Finally, a modern deep “C”-profile neck and comfortably contoured slim offset body conjure up an effortless playability that your typical dreadnought can only dream of.

Acoustasonic Shawbucker bridge pickup

Fender Chief Engineer Tim Shaw holds claim to some of the most revered vintage pickup re-creations of our day. Among his more recognized Fender designs is the "Shawbucker" humbucking pickup: a love letter to Tim's more than 35 years of guitar industry service and a major propellent of Fender's HH and HSS electric guitars circa 2015 onward. For the Acoustasonic Player Jazzmaster's specially calibrated Acoustasonic Shawbucker pickup, Tim and Fender went back to the drawing board. "We realized we needed a higher-output pickup than normal because of the unique Acoustasonic body construction," says Tim. "The Acoustasonic Shawbucker has pole pieces that are factory preset from the back, and they’re compensated for bronze strings." This calibration permits pure electric tones you'd never believe could come from an "acoustic" instrument. "When you plug-in and experiment with the Blend control," Tim continues, "You’ll hear electric sounds that go from 'fat and clean' to 'right at home with a 4 x 12 cabinet.'" Plus, as with all Acoustasonic guitars, the Acoustasonic Jazzmaster's spanky, snarly electric tones are designed to sound great running into a traditional speaker cabinet or direct into a full-range PA.

Iconic offset style

Fender has done a great job of retaining the style and playability of its acclaimed Jazzmaster design for an instrument as advanced as the Acoustasonic Player Jazzmaster. From the familiar offset-waist body to its great-playing, rosewood-capped Modern Deep "C"-profile neck, everything about this guitar will make you feel right at home onstage or in the studio. Its action is a nice compromise between styles: it doesn't bottom out for strums, and it doesn't fret out for leads.

Blend up your tone

If you’re after a more traditional acoustic tone, the Fender Acoustasonic Player Jazzmaster’s under-saddle pickup captures every nuance of this guitar’s beautiful solid spruce top and resonant mahogany back and sides. It’s the perfect complement to the more traditional electric guitar tones of the Acoustasonic Shawbucker, providing a lush and organic tone that’s ideal for strumming out cowboy chords and tackling your latest fingerstyle masterpiece. However, if you’re feeling experimental, a blend knob allows you to borrow the best elements from this guitar's six fine-tuned electric and acoustic voices, accessed via the 3-way blade switch. Sweetwater guitarists especially love how blending in a bit of the Shawbucker can beef up your piezo’s low end!

Fender Acoustasonic Player Jazzmaster Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Hybrid acoustic-electric Jazzmaster body style is incredibly comfortable to play both sitting and standing
  • Solid Sitka spruce top provides an authentic acoustic resonance and response
  • Mahogany back and sides add a touch of warmth to your tone
  • Mahogany neck in a modern deep “C”-profile is slightly chunky while still retaining electric-like playability
  • Gorgeous rosewood fingerboard in a flat 12-inch radius is ideal for both plectrum-equipped leads and melodic fingerpicking
  • Fender Acoustasonic Shawbucker Magnetic pickup provides everything from searing leads to clean and gentle rhythm tones
  • Under-saddle piezo pickup captures the guitar’s rich acoustic tone for a more organic sound
  • 3-way blade switch offers 6 different tonal voices to choose from (3 for the piezo, 3 for the Shawbucker)
  • Blend knob to mix between your magnetic pickup and the under-saddle piezo

Amazing guitar!

This guitar is very innovative and modern. Sounds great both, acoustic and electric. The guitar has a very nice feel. The body is very sleak and ergonomic. This guitar has a nice volume when played unplugged while still being sleak enough to fit in the guitar rack with solid body electric guitars. I would with out a doubt definitely recommend this guitar for a wide range of different guitar players and collectors.

Jack of all trades

The TL/DR here is that this guitar is fantastic, and Ethan and Sweetwater are sick AF.

-----
The longer version

I have owned an Acoustasonic Tele (Players Series) and wasn't very impressed with it. A few years later, I played this Jazzmaster (Player Series) and knew I needed one. The humbucker is where the magic is.

Even through the smallest Fender Acoustasonic amp, this thing is fantastic in all positions. I'm curious why you'd pay the extra for the USA version unless money wasn't an issue and you needed to be 'Merican or bust. I'm sure it's nice to have extra acoustic voices, but if it bothers you, you're softer than 2-ply Charmin Extra Soft. Even unplugged it's audibly usable for me to practice.

I'm not a musician; I volunteer to play music in Nursing Homes. I like that the sound is so crispy, even on a small amp, and smaller than a concert body-style acoustic. I also don't have to hammer it to try to make it louder to fill my room.

Finally, my boy Ethan at Sweetwater is so dope. This guy helps me with everything. I know that Sweetwater is a business trying to make money, but Ethan has an outstanding balance of not overselling me on things I don't need while ensuring it covers what I do need. (I also bought a PA and Mixer earlier this year, and he did the same, getting me something that sounds good while ensuring I don't have features I don't need.)

GREAT GUITAR!

I'm not an effects pedal person , used to use an amp with effects years ago , now just use a small Custom self contained small PA for small gigs , plus less equipment to haul , of course there are no effects on the PA , so this guitar allows me to add and change sounds and fine tune for different songs ( rock , country, folk etc.) , only started using it ,but love it , plus it's so easy to play.

It's been interesting

When I first got mine, I was concerned by some rattle in the neck. I bought it from Fender - I feel Sweetwater would've caught that issue. It was easily fixed with a quarter turn of the truss rod with the included allen wrench.

This guitar is light, ergonomic, and wonderfully comfortable to play. The unplugged sound is loud enough for practice or playing around a campfire but doesn't sound as full as one might like. I accidentally recorded a track using a mic instead of the line in and was surprised when the lack of fullness meant it actually sat better in the mix! So, keep that in mind.

I perform about once a month and recently got to try this guy out at a small venue. I play through a Fender Mustang GT 40, and it took some time to find a satisfactory setting, but I found a few that suited my needs. You're not going to sound like a well-mic'd Martin for sure, but you get several usable types of acoustic sounds, and you get a decent medium gain electric guitar sound that works nicely for a rhythm part. It's freeing not to have to sit in front of a mic and still get a good sound.

What the......

I had high hopes for this guitar, but after having it for a short period, returned it. The action was unplayable! It should have been assembled with SOME care. Also, I could not get a useable sound no matter what amp was used.Even a Crate acoustic amp. Just awful. They tout the unplugged, acoustic sound, it's terrible! In other words, it sounds like crap. The front of the body is very cheap-looking. I will say it had a nice neck and fretboard.Just NO TONE! I compliment Sweetwater for refunding my purchase totally. No problem with them!
