Remote I/O to Go

The Allen & Heath GLD-AR2412 is the Main AudioRack for the company's GLD digital mixing system. The GLD-AR2412 includes 24 XLR inputs and 12 XLR outputs and connects to the GLD-80 digital mixer via inexpensive and readily available Cat 5 cable running Allen & Heath's dSNAKE protocol, allowing the GLD-AR2412 to be positioned up to 400' from the GLD-80. dSNAKE provides control to the remote mic preamps in the GLD-AR2412; all are scene recallable. For larger configurations, a GLD-AR84 Expander AudioRack may be connected to the GLD-AR2412 to add an additional eight XLR inputs and 4 XLR outputs.

A & H GLD-AR2412

This was my first install with digital equipment,so it took a little bit to make it work, but it has no issues. Works great, no complaints.

Music background: Singing for approximately 60 yrs, operated sound equipment for 30 yrs.

A good Choice for Us

THe A&H GLD-AR2412 Expander stage box is a simple, well-built box with straightforward integration with many A&H consoles.

We paired this stage box with a A&H QU-24. After a few minutes of adjusting gain levels, it was set to go.

We heard an immediate and remarkable difference in sound quality over the digital snake to this box. Higher frequencies were most affected, but overall the sound was much clearer. I was truly surprised; I was not expecting that remarkable an audio quality change.

It is also set up to support in-ear systems across the digital snake, which we will likely add in the future. You can add another AR2412 and daisy-chain them digitally as well. This allows expansion without having to "obsolete" one box just to purchase another box.

One minor caveat that might affect others, but did not create any issues for us: all analog audio connections at the stage box are XLR-only. No combo connectors that also support ¼ inch.

Must have

Plug in the cat5 and you are ready to go. No more rolling and unrolling a 24 channel snake. If you have a Allen and Heath
QU series or GLD series console and you use a sound man you have to have this.

A great sound upgrade

Several years ago our church began to upgrade an older analog system towards a new digital one. We began with a new digital board, and then found that we didn't have enough I/O lines on our old snake to accommodate all of the instruments and mics we needed. Our sound Tech recommended this Allen and Health expanded as well as a n umber of in floor I/O boxes. This allowed us to switch all of our sound over to digital and to create a true stereo sound environment for our sanctuary. The sound is incredible! I would recommend this I/O expanded to anyone looking to do the same type of upgrade as we did!
